Anyone working as a social entrepreneur?

by @thomaspichon |  | 18 comments

Hi there,

I see that the large majority of the questions on this forum are coming from business people, and I was wondering if some of you are working on not-for-profit projects, on initiatives that aim at solving social or environmental issues?

Thanks!

Thomas

Any nomads in Europe want to do a Nomad Christmas gathering somewhere?

by @wanderingdev |  | 16 comments

Hi Nomads!

Like many, I’m not heading back to be with my family for the holidays but I was thinking it would be fun to maybe do a nomad family gathering. We could rent a cool house/apartment somewhere fun and do our own thing. I personally am available from 23-27 December, but people could arrive/leave sooner/later. I love to cook so I’d be up for doing a big christmas dinner.

If anyone is interested, or has suggestions on a good place to go, chime in!

Anyone have experience with in-flight wifi when crossing the ocean?

by @karlbecker_com |  | 13 comments

I’m curious about a few airlines, but I’ll ask about China Airlines since that’s my most upcoming long haul flight.

  • Does it stay connected for the duration of the flight?
  • Will there be any hope that I might be able to do real-time voice on it?
  • I’ll do text chat most of the time, but are any ports closed on it? I imagine I’ll use a VPN

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Does anybody work for an NGO, charity or social project remotely?

by @gpestana |  | 2 comments

What’s up there?
Is there anyone working for/running a social innovation project while on the road?

In everyone else's experience, do others rate working remotely as highly as we do?

by @munly_leong |  | 7 comments

I got inspired when someone else mentioned that nomads/100% remoters are kind of niche and even hard to find vs the norm. Is this really the case in other people’s experience?

I know most would jump at the chance if it was offered, at the same time for most people I know it would be a first for them and many I know would struggle with the self mgmt/productivity aspect but given time most would probably be onboarded successfully.

What I described as my ideal, speaking to another startupper a few months ago she described it as her hell. She would not want to be isolated and wants to see her team every day and hang out with them.

What do we need to provide for you to choose Croatia as your destination?

in Croatia by @mirko |  | 38 comments

Hello everyone! We’re a few IT professionals from Croatia, having our own companies/startups in various cities (on the coast) but all of us also own and manage properties for tourists (villas, houses, B&Bs, et.). We would like to use those properties and connect them with our passion for IT by making them available for digital nomads out there.

Those are all high quality accommodation so during a high season I think it would be too expensive, but off season (October till April, depending on the place) we’re able to cut prices A LOT because our main motivation is to network with other IT people out there and promote our location.

Obvious advantage (we believe) is that we’re IT people, so Internet connection (mostly 8 Mbit to 120 Mbit cable or DSL) and other technical issues would not be a problem like in other mostly tourist-oriented places. We also have personnel to assist you in any needs you might have (laundry, paperwork, information, etc); we have contracts with surrounding restaurants and probably could get a good price-cuts for your stay; we could rearrange some space to offices or meeting rooms; because we’re in several different cities (like Split and Zadar) we could arrange a “tour” of several cities or you can choose to be static in one of the cities, etc.

But the question remains, does this make sense to you and what do you need to make Croatia your next destination? We would love to try and meet all those requirements if possible and would appreciate any comment.

Great city if you come here as a tourist But after one month here it has not been my best experience The city is dirty and peoples don't talk great english but defenitively some nice place to visit like the egyptian museum or the museum of cinema and also the muntain are not that far away. For thr price it's not the best blace to go unless you absolutely want to learn italian. And gosh try not to be run over by cars there.

Definitely check out The Key (on near Zhong Xiao Dun Hua station) if living here for more than a month. Cafe + Gym + Bar all in one, monthly membership about $50 USD. English-friendly, no contracts. Made my 3 month stay here immensely better with fast wifi in the cafe and it's a great feeling to be able to work out immediately after working.
