This city is incredible. Now I understand why Parisians look down on other cities. It is endless. Museums, history, cool bars, incredible food, diversity, beautiful people nicely dressed... It helps a lot to speak French. It's expensive. I'd love to nomad here for a month or two. I really liked Marais as an area.

I have been living in Quito for almost 3 years, and at this moment in time, I can not recommend it as a travel or remote work destination. A number of high profile terrorist attacks have rocked the country, and the prevalence of random violence and kidnappings in urban areas is increasing. Drug trafficking has decreased safety throughout the country, and no one is out at night past 8 pm. The streets are literally empty once it gets dark. I live in Ecuador and I have been to the Galapagos a couple of times, but never for work because the internet simply doesn't work. In fact, I have a cousin who lives there and works for the Charles Darwin Station and whenever he visits us in Quito he catches up on social media… that's how bad the internet is over there. It's a beautiful destination for fun, but not for remote workers (unless you can work offline while you are there).

All in, Austin is a good city. We live in Hill Country now so we're a bit removed. But it's beautiful area once you get away from the highways. A good tech scene. Not too expensive (~$2100 for a nice 2 bedroom apt) for the U.S. Has wineries and breweries galore. Not a great place if you are a recovering alcoholic (!). Cons: extremely hot in the summer; reaches 110 F (43.3 C) in summer afternoons from June - September. Not very diverse. Highways are loud and obnoxious.

I stayed here for 6 months and I absolutely love Mexico City. The life is comfortable if you stay in the bubbles, namely Roma Norte, Condesa and Polanco, but the living cost has increased 30% since last year, due to the inflation and skyrocketing mexican pesos. Mexican people are so friendly and I never had any safety issues. Definitely will be back in the future.

Most people I speak to confirmed my belief that Marrakesh is a place to visit for a few days max. The excitement and chaos are novel for a short time, particularly in the old medina. Scams, expensive and tiresome. For sure Marrakech is something to experience, it really is a buzz, especially if you want to shop but within a couple of days I learned to avoid the medina as much as I could and within a week I was ready to leave.
