Where is the best place to live in London for digital nomads?

in London, United Kingdom by @nicholasdnewell |  | 35 comments

Iโ€™m moving to London for a year and would like to know where Iโ€™ll have the best โ€œaccessโ€ to other digital nomads as well as facilities such as coworking spaces. If possible (I know itโ€™s asking a lot for London), Iโ€™d prefer to live somewhere cheap (a relative term I know, but Iโ€™m looking to spend no more than ยฃ1,000), but still have the aforementioned items. Any help, guidance, or just simple insider advice would be much appreciated! Thank you =)

How do you work without multiple monitors? I can only carry a MBP 15"

by @tschentscher |  | 39 comments

Hi Nomads!

Starting January 2016 Iโ€™m going to be starting a year as a Digital Nomad.
The last 5 years Iโ€™ve never worked with less than 2 monitors in front of me.
Sure, Iโ€™ve done some cafรฉ and hotel-room work. But all my biggest project has all been done in front of a stationary setup.

I do webdesign and development and have created a working habbit with several monitors on a large desk. Funny enough this is my biggest concern getting closer to January.

How do i teach myself to work from a 15" screen?
Do you find working from a 15" screen enough or do you have some kind of magical folding screen in your backpack?

If you have any ideas for me keeping a dual-monitor setup (The laptop being the first monitor) Iโ€™m all ears!

Regards! And thank you for this delightful Forum!

What are some good places in Europe that are racially inclusive?

by @greenhorn |  | 26 comments

Hi

I spent about two months backpacking Europe in May and June and loved it. I visited Amsterdam, Praha, Krakow, Budapest, Bled, Interlaken, Vienna, Bratislava and Rome.

Since I have a SaaS product so I am location independent. I was thinking of moving to Europe for a year or so.

I am Indian so I donโ€™t really blend in too easily with the local populace. I was wondering if you could suggest me places which are very accepting of different ethnicities.

I liked Slovenia and Poland a lot but read online that a right wing party was elected in Poland and couldnโ€™t find much info on Slovenia online. My experiences there though were very positive.

Looking to hear the experiences of fellow nomads who stick out as obvious foreigners :). Which has been your favorite place?

Some other factors - budget 2000-2500 euros/month, love outdoors so looking for a place with lots of bicycling, running, hiking routes nearby. I really donโ€™t want to move to a big city though (such as Amsterdam or London) having lived in cities such as these all my life.

Can I travel with desktop computer components in my cabin luggage?

by @baia |  | 8 comments

Iโ€™m part of the 0.01% who dislike working on a laptop and require a big fat LCD and desktop keyboard on a huge desk surface, with a large glass of something on the side (you can do that with a laptop too but still).

As Iโ€™m soon moving to a medium town of Peru where modern IT hardware may be hard to get, Iโ€™ll want to bring my main PC components (motherboard/CPU/RAM/HDD/GPU) in my cabin luggage.

Has anyone else in the world done that before and if so are there things to avoid and smart tricks to follow?

Been living here in Buenos Aires for almost three years. Right now, it's (relatively) cheap. I mean, it isn't for the people who currently lives here but it's if you're a foreign, as the inflation keeps going on the peso isn't that worthy now. But, as I'm saying, if you come with dollars is going to make a huge difference. (3 years ago: 20 pesos= 1 USD. June 2020: 95 pesos= 1 USD. and if you're selling dollars in the informal market they will pay you $124. and with that you can buy two small

London is the best city in the world - you just can't do it on a budget. It's got an amazing tech scene but ALSO world class media, fashion, finance, art industries and many others. If you don't want to live in a tech / expat mono-culture then it's for you. It is a genuine melting pot with a huge range of nationalities and cultures living together (the US has a large number of nationalities but there seems to be hard segregations between them geographically, economically, culturally - so they

I've been living in SF since 2014 and I have to say Cost of Living is misrepresented. It's a lot more expensive now (2020) than posted. 1-bdr in center is $3,500-$4,000 + $200-$300 for parking + $100-$200 for utilities. Almost impossible to find month-to-month rent, so this is for 1-year lease. Coffee for two + a pastry is easily $20. Dinner for two never less than $50, unless it's fast food (+20% tips are expected) and if you want actually something good it's at least $100 for two. Airbnb is $1
