Very underrated. Had a great time staying in La Carolina. I have friends who have been living there for 3+ years and can confirm safety has gotten a bit worse but it's still reasonable. Prices are affordable and there's many hiking spots within 1-3 hours.

Honestly, this is an awesome place to be if you're actually trying to get work done. It's a bit of an older vibe than Canggu, and there's certainly a big chunk of yogi's kicking around โ€” but I liked it much better than Canggu and found it less pretentious. Plus, you can drive down there in 45mins whenever you want some beach or party vibes. As others mentioned, there's some great coworking spaces, cheap warungs, some really nice spots to stay cheaply if you go just outside of the mad tourist

Lived there last September and October and am coming back later this year. Yes, it is expensive, but after a while I learned about affordable places to eat and realized I could choose neighborhoods farther from city center, and it would still be nice. City feels super safe, even at nigh! Internet is crazy fast (I got 500mb on my airbnb) there are tons to do and see and I did not encounter the super rude Parisians people talk so much about, mostly everyone spoke English and were very polite. Copenhagen is way too expensive. I have lived there for quite some time and although it's has this semi-hipster vibe, it still feels like a big village. It's miserable in the winter because it's so windy and went. There are much better and cheaper options, plus the people can be hard to relate to.

Strongly agree that this is an underrated city! If you want to buckle down and get some work done, it's a great place to be. Folks here are a bit more serious and business minded, and it comes with generally good internet and functioning services around the city. There are a number of cool coliving buildings that make life really fun. I stayed in one called Plura Coliving for about $700/month. You get a private room/bathroom + gym, spa, bar, restaurant, laundry, coworking, rec rooms, etc. all bu

I mostly don't like it here. Possibly I am too used to USA or have not traveled enough. PRO: It is beautiful, with great natural resources, inexpensive rates & lots of activities to do. There are carriage rides & snorkling, beach events, etc. Lots & lots of great places for brunch or dinner & drinks. CONS: There's a strong cultural, economic & racial divide here. The locals see the tourist as distinctly different from them. It's hard to find any locals to have a conversation & just tre

It gets chilly at night and most places don't have a heater, so pack some extra thick socks! Felt quite safe compared to other latinAm countries. This had a safer vibe than Guayaquil and all was very affordable. People are friendly. Went to the zoo, spa, a few hiking trails and such but otherwise not much to do. Great if you wanna hunker down for a few months and live cheaply in a quieter part of Ecuador.

Lived here for about 3 months as a female. The climate is amazing as it is the City of Eternal Spring. Very reasonable prices everywhere. I stayed in Poblado, but about a 25 minute walk from all the action of Poblado. Walking on the main roads during the day was fine. The local people are amazingly nice. However, once night falls, you have to be careful here. Do not walk on quiet streets. Leave your valuables at home and do not ever show your mobile phone outside on the street. Use an Uber at ni

Very underrated. Had a great time staying in La Carolina. I have friends who have been living there for 3+ years and can confirm safety has gotten a bit worse but it's still reasonable. Prices are affordable and there's many hiking spots within 1-3 hours.

Super expensive, and nothing to do in winter (a ghost town); I prefer Albuferia or Praia da Rocha (Portimao)

Pretty racist to those that arent white, you feel unwelcome, locals stare at you like your alien, you get served last even when your 1st in line, you get ignored and when you walk into a shop you get followed around because the workers think your going to steal something. However for white people im sure Palma is great.
