Bansko is much overrated. In summertime it feels like a ghost town in the residential apartments. The center is quite animated but it is not very expatfriendly. I did not see any digital nomad scenes. Not heard any other language than Bulgarian around. It is more a family oriented national village. Big supermarkets closed in summertime so you take a taxi to shop outside the town. I can imagine that in wintertime there is much more activity but avoid summertime, unless you want to be quite and en

Tirana was a pleasant surprise for me! It wasnโ€™t on my initial list for places Iโ€™d planned to go this year, but after researching countries in Europe that allows U.S. citizens to enter with COVID, it piqued my interest. I stayed in the Blloku area and would definitely recommend it. Itโ€™s littered with bars and cafes you can work from (Mon Cheri and Mulliri Vjeter became fast favorites because of consistency!). I was also genuinely grateful to get the chance to learn about the very recent co

  • Berlin

Berlin is overall a great city to be. Food is cheap and everywhere, easy to go out and have fun/meet for business. Rent has crept up but still far better value than where I came from. Internet: 36 EUR/month get me 450/40 mbps (cable -> DOCSIS 3.0) Public transport is 2.70 EUR/ticket. No woman I know has said they felt unsafe. Some really odd, xenophobic sounding comments on here. Biggest downsides IMO: service quality at restaurants - not that people are rude, but they don't seem to particular

  • New York City

I've lived in New York City - Brooklyn - for over 20 years. For visiting tourists, the best neighborhood to stay in is NOT Bushwick. Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Ft. Green or Brooklyn Heights is preferable. Plenty of good transportation in those areas - subway, buses or Uber. Easy access to beaches in Long Island and New Jersey. There's plenty to do in NYC. Great restaurants, Broadway plays (!), and in the summer you frequently can catch a free concert.

Pros: -Great airport for connections to Africa and South America. -Has some really beautiful views. -Great fruit and fish. -Native Portuguese people are generally friendly and helpful. -Wonderful moderate climate (better than Spain) Cons: -The dirtiest major city I've seen in Europe. Filthy buildings and dog crap everywhere. -Unsafe - most other women I spoke to said they feel unsafe walking alone here (being leered at, whistled at and followed by the mostly immigrant men is a common occurrenc

  • San Francisco

I've been living in SF since 2014 and I have to say Cost of Living is misrepresented. It's a lot more expensive now (2020) than posted. 1-bdr in center is $3,500-$4,000 + $200-$300 for parking + $100-$200 for utilities. Almost impossible to find month-to-month rent, so this is for 1-year lease. Coffee for two + a pastry is easily $20. Dinner for two never less than $50, unless it's fast food (+20% tips are expected) and if you want actually something good it's at least $100 for two. Airbnb is $1

  • Salt Lake City

Salt Lake is a great place to be: Tons of things to do, world class art and culture, some of the best snow in America, friendly polite people. However, the metrics score/ review is inaccurate, during the winter, Salt Lake has some of the worst air quality in the country. It's called inversion, look it up. Somehow being surrounded by coal power plants and oil refineries, while being horizonally sandwiched between two east-west mountain ranges, at high altitude, and two major north south, east wes

  • Tirana

Tirana was a pleasant surprise for me! It wasnโ€™t on my initial list for places Iโ€™d planned to go this year, but after researching countries in Europe that allows U.S. citizens to enter with COVID, it piqued my interest. I stayed in the Blloku area and would definitely recommend it. Itโ€™s littered with bars and cafes you can work from (Mon Cheri and Mulliri Vjeter became fast favorites because of consistency!). I was also genuinely grateful to get the chance to learn about the very recent co

  • Budapest

I stayed here for a month in July last year. There's lots of cool aspects to the city but I hated it when I was there. The city has a problem with British stag parties, so if you look like you're a British male and speak English expect to be treated with disdain (it's fair enough) The Hungarians can just generally be unfriendly, especially bartenders. It's a weird experience waiting to be served while 3 people ignore you. Or buying the same drink and getting charged whatever they want (700-1500
