Any recommendation on accommodations in Cape Town?

in Cape Town, South Africa by @danielletom | 4yr  | 3 comments

Hey guys,

Iโ€™m looking at heading to Cape Town in February/March. I am looking for a long term accomodation for about three months. I checked out GumTree and StayinCapeTown, but I was wondering if you had any more reccomendations on where to look! Airbnb is quite expensive and sparse.

Also, I would love to know your favourite areas in the city and hear about your experiences

Thanks !

Hi Danielle,

We have a 14-room house full of expats and entrepreneurs in Camps Bay, one of the coolest area in Cape Town, 5 minutes from the Beach

The areas that most expats favor are the City Center / Sea Point / Green Point / Camps Bay / Woodstock / Observatory.

Cheers,

Romain

You can find it on AirBnB, itโ€™s a house in Camps Bay with many entrepreneurs. Or you can e-mail me: [email protected].

Are co-working spaces a good way to meet people in a new city?

by @donaldbough | 4d 4 days ago | 0 comments

My fiancรฉe and I are most likely moving to NYC (maybe DC) in August, and as a technical startup co-founder I'd love to meet new people that are also into startups. Would joining a co-working space be worth the money to do this?

I work for a big tech company that has an office in NYC, but it's mainly sales so I wouldn't be able to meet others that are related to any of my 9-5 work or likely into tech.

If co-working spaces, post covid of course, aren't a good way to meet business starting people in a new city, what is?

Is La Gomera a nice place to stay?

in Norway by @kvarsten | 11d 11 days ago | 1 comment

Hi, my name is Eric and I am a remote worker from Norway. Me and a friend is flying into Gran Canaria on Friday and spending two weeks in San Agustin on the south side of the Island.

After that we are pondering about staying in La Gomera. Does anyone of you have an experience staying there or are there anyone of you staying there now? :)

in Ukraine by @reticle | 15d 14 days ago | 0 comments

I have a slightly above average US income which I can work remotely from paired with a $1000 a month income stream and more than enough to purchase a middle end Flat in Ukraine. Does anyone with knowledge of this process have any advice to acquire a reliable way to stay in the country?

in Las Palmas, Spain by @philippg | 18d 17 days ago | 1 comment

Hi, we are trying to find a house to rent for 2-3 persons near Las Palmas for 4-5 months at the moment and it seems to be almost impossible except through Airbnb which is super expensive. Any advises or local contacts?

Is there a map of countries open for travel now?

in Russia by @vernon99 | 1mo 1 month ago | 8 comments

I have two passports from different countries and am trying to understand where can I travel now. Is there a publicly available map of countries open for visitors by passport country that I can use to see what are my options? I was pretty sure such a thing should exist, but cannot easily find any.

Maybe at least there're maps for specific passports? Mine are Russian and American.

If there's no such thing, I'd be down to build one, let me know if interested to collaborate :)

Are restaurants, cafes and malls working in Mexico City taking into account COVID situation?

in Mexico by @thateverdmitriy | 2mo 1 month ago | 1 comment

I am planning to travel to Mexico City next weekend and stay for 7-10 days there. I wonder if cafes, stores and other places like these work? And if cafes work, do they work as usual or only for take away&delivery? Will be very thankful if someone can help here.

What's the best bank for South African digital nomads?

in South Africa by @kirst85 | 3yr 2 years ago | 12 comments

Iโ€™m a South African about to become a Nomad next year. I will still be employed by a South African company and receive a salary into my FNB bank account monthly.

I will be mostly based in Serbia but plan on travelling a lot. Does anyone have any advice on the best bank account to have? Is there a way to not get charged a small fortune in ATM charges and avoid getting my account frozen for using it in lots of countries?

Iโ€™m unsure of the best way to handle things. Should I try get another bank account outside of SA (Can I even do that)? I also have a British Passport if that makes a difference.

If any of you have any experienced advice I would be very grateful, Thanks in advance!

What Are The Safest Neighborhoods To Live in Cape Town?

in Cape Town, South Africa by @justinbosco | 4yr 3 years ago | 3 comments

Hi all! My girlfriend and I would like to spend a month in Cape Town in August and are researching the safest neighborhoods to live in. Weโ€™d like to get an Airbnb but weโ€™re curious if anyone has any advice on where we should be looking? Weโ€™ve read a lot about Cape Town in our research, both good and bad. Any tips from people who have experience living in the city beyond a weekend resort stay would be great!

Any tips for nomad'ing from Tanzania to South Africa?

in South Africa by @tylertringas | 4yr 3 years ago | 3 comments

Hi nomads! Iโ€™m headed to Tanzania in mid-July and working my way down to Cape Town over about 2.5 months. Itโ€™s my first time in the region. Any tips or warnings for typical nomad concerns in Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa?

Iโ€™m anticipating worse than usual wifi speed but any tips on connectivity would be great.

What are the best sites or strategies for accommodation? I usually use Airbnb, hostelworld or booking.com and target guesthouses in the $50/night or cheaper range. Is that realistic?

Most importantly what should we do?! Iโ€™ve already research the obvious highlights: Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, Zanzibar, Victoria Falls, etc. Any off the beaten path things to do and/or good spots to post up for a few weeks and enjoy/work?

Thanks

Any other outdoor enthusiasts / adventurers like to meet up? (Central America & South Africa)

in South Africa by @jakegibson | 5yr 4 years ago | 0 comments

Till November I have a house in Costa Rica with extra beds. Learning to surf but interested doing some climbing, rafting, hiking.

After November mostly likely Cape Town South Africa for a few months, getting my pilots license but also interested in motorcycle tours, surfing, anything else outdoors.

After that will be looking for a sailing adventureโ€ฆ

I already watch meetup, but am always looking outdoor enthusiasts who are up for more than the casual hike. Anyone in those areas want to plan something? Or do you have a site besides meetup you use?

Anyone interested to do a Scotland/Cape Town flat swap in 2016?

in Cape Town, South Africa by @susangaigher | 5yr 4 years ago | 3 comments

Hi there! I have a one-bedroom flat in Cape Town, South Africa where I am based most of the time. I like to go on 2/3-month trips while working remotely, and am keen to go to Scotland (prefer Edinburgh) next.

I work for myself so am very flexible. If you are keen to swap flats, contact me! Cape Town is amazing, youโ€™ll have a ball. You can even have my friends for the duration of your stay

How is Cape Town for digital nomads?

in Cape Town, South Africa by @jammingsloth | 5yr 5 years ago | 32 comments

Has anyone spent time in Cape Town? Any recommendations on places to stay? Airbnb seems pretty sparse. Wifi also doesnโ€™t seem to be a strong suit - anyone have positive experiences?

Is it possible to be a digital nomad in Cape Verde?

in Cape Verde by @adrienbetweets | 6yr 5 years ago | 0 comments

I went to Cape Verde for a few weeks in January 2015.

Cape Verde is a pretty cool place to be, especially when itโ€™s very cold in Europe in the winter, see my relevant post on this on Whatโ€™s the best warm destinations in Europe in the winter?

However, the internet connection was not so good in most islands. I also tested a few wifi connections in different hotels & restaurants, & on different islands, but no luck, the connections were always pretty slow. Maybe I didnโ€™t try in the right places or the right telecom companies.

Apart from the internet connection, I noticed that the quality of the infrastructures is usually quite low. Does it disqualify Cape Verde as a destination for digital nomads? I donโ€™t know. I might simply too little knowledge about the country.

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks.
