Best earplugs for sleeping?

by @srg_b 7yr  | 6 comments

What are the best earplugs the money can buy (or similar noise blockers), that will allow me to sleep on my side comfortably and not here people around me snoring?

Thanks!

Seconding @littleshiva on the HEAROS XTREME. Iโ€™ve tried a bunch of different brands and styles. They are just way better for my ears. No problem sleeping on your side with these.

My goto setup if I am really trying to drown out all sound and sleep is:

  • Hearos XTREME (blue). Got those from Amazon.
  • Active noise-cancelling, closed back, over-ear bluetooth headphones I use Plantronics Backbeat Pro 1. You can sleep on your side if you have a soft pillow and bunch it up, making a cup for the headphone side. I sleep mostly on my back though. Got those from Amazon.
  • Some kind of ambient noise generator app to run interference through the headphones. I use Banzai Labs Power Nap from the Apple App Store.

An alternate setup that works pretty well when Iโ€™m travelling light:

  • MPOW Judge bluetooth in ear headset. Got those from Amazon.
  • and the Banzai app mentioned above.

It is super easy to lay on your side with this setup. The headphones are also super inexpensive, but very good. Excellent value and utility, but not quite as effective as the first setup.

All of this is worth it if you need silence to sleep. Noise bothers me and this is the only setup Iโ€™ve tried that really lets me retire to my own space when Iโ€™m travelling and canโ€™t control noise. I experience a real benefit to my peace of mind- and patience actually. Something about knowing that no matter how annoying my surroundings may get - I can drown them out if I need to.

Hearos are the best in my book: https://www.amazon.com/Hearos-Xtreme-Protection-14-Pair-Foam/dp/B00JELBWHQ?tag=earpg-20
They work like 3Mโ€™s E-A-R E-Z Fit: you make 'em small (thin) so you can get 'em way down into your ear, then hold 'em there for a second or two as they expand, and poof, instant silence!

You could also try to look into sleeping phones. I previously had some version of https://www.amazon.com/AcousticSheep-SleepPhones-Classic-Headphones-Medium/dp/B0046H8ZHS which I really liked (used for when eating or listening to audiobooks while being sick). Would maybe suggest getting bluetooth version as volume controller is flimsy (I taped it down to avoid accidental mutes) and the wires die quickly (was too lazy to fix them after the second time but now really wish I had them).

Finally a question I have knowledge about!

Iโ€™ve tried LOADS of ear plugs. Almost every single one.

The best ear plugs:
The best one is 3Mโ€™s E-A-R E-Z-Fit:
AC_UL160_SR160,160

Thereโ€™s lots of 3M ear plugs that look like them but they all kinda suck. You can recognize the good ones by their cone like shape and the bottom which is dented and has the ridges.

These 3M E-Z-Fit ear plugs are soft and highly malleable. You make them small first, then insert into your ears, hold for 20 seconds and theyโ€™ll grow to close your ear canal 100%.

I have a box of 1,000pcs 3M E-A-R E-Z-Fit I ordered at some online industrial warehouse shop. And everytime I travel I bring about a 50pcs. I use maybe 2 per week. Theyโ€™re the best thing ever cause theyโ€™re the only thing that keep me asleep!

What NOT to buy:
Now hereโ€™s the ear plugs that didnโ€™t work for me, theyโ€™re either too stiff (so they donโ€™t isolate your canal cause they canโ€™t change shape) or just badly shaped (like the multi-cone one):

It depends what you mean by โ€˜bestโ€™โ€ฆ Not hearing a serial snorer would be a challenge with any earplugs as they tend to not really block โ€˜vibration noisesโ€™.

Anyways, look on the packages, usually the amount of decibel it blocks is written somewhere. So the highest the more it blocks noise.

The big orange ones are the ones I use, but at first they hurt after a couple of hours. I just got used to using them over time.

Best means I will hear least snoring, while feeling most comfortable while sleeping on the side

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Is anyone travelling right now?

by @viktor 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Winter is coming and Iโ€™m feeling the ache of travelling after being stuck in the same place since the Pandemic started. Wondering if anyone is travelling right now? If so, where are you currently located and how is the situation where you are?
