You could try a Uk based company called soho66 (I dont work for them!)
Iโ€™ve found them very helpful. If you drop them an email they will be more than happy to help you.

Hey @flipchan, for over five years I use a Polish VoIP provider, who is not the best in design/app development, but their rates (counted in cheap currency - PLN) and call service reliability are the main reasons why I stick with them.

Besides using it periodically in my British LTD with both British and Polish VoIP landline numbers my father use their services heavily in a local car repair service in Poland.

The site FCN (dot) pl may be not in English, but as I checked the dashboard is fully translated. Itโ€™s also fairly easy to setup mobile app and do extra setup like allow calls is selected business hours or record voice mails and send the recordings to email.

Iโ€™m happy to help if you decide using FCN.

For some features, you need to contact the support. They offer a UK number if you can prove that you have a business or some permanent address there. In my case, itโ€™s a British LTD I run there.

Alternatively, if you want to have all the setup in your phone, try an app called โ€œHushedโ€. I used it for a short period, but in general, they offer mobile/landline numbers from many countries for calling and texting both ways.

What's the best mobile-data option in New Zealand for nomads?

in New Zealand by @goldsaj 5yr 5 years ago  | 2 comments

Hi All! Iโ€™ve heard Spark and Vodafone are the best. I plan to move around, so I care mostly about having good coverage, and all Iโ€™ll need is around 1 GB of data or so.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Best SIP/VOIP service for small remote teams?

by @luisplz 7yr 7 years ago  | 5 comments

Hi everyone,

we are a very small remote german company (3 at the moment) but we are expanding and three new colleagues will be working for us in the upcoming weeks/months. Up until now, we used Skype and my regular mobile phone line for all the intern/support and selling calls but since we will have soon other people working for support and selling too, we need to profesionalice that aspect.

In your opinion and experience, what is the best and more cost efficient VOIP / SIP service that we could use? Thanks!

TMobile for Continuous Travel?

in Mobile , United States by @jackgopack 7yr 7 years ago  | 5 comments

TMobile advises their international plan requires me to reside in the US for 3 months of each year, however I may be there only 1 month (or less). Anyone using their plan continuously? Rigid requirement?

How can I monitor my data usage when I have limited amounts of mobile data?

by @littleshiva 7yr 7 years ago  | 6 comments

I use a mobile internet stick that gives me 1 gigabyte of bandwidth in a 24-hour period. If I use it all up in half that time (easy with print jobs) I have to either wait it out or use another stick. What are some of the things I can do to keep bandwidth from being used without my knowledge? (macbook pro / Yosemite) I looked in the activity monitor and safari seemed to be using a lot so I keep it off now when Iโ€™m not using it, and I paused synching on dropbox and creative cloud until Iโ€™m hooked up to wifi. Any other tricks?

How do you deal with getting data on your mobile while travelling?

by @nomads_and_drifters 7yr 7 years ago  | 15 comments

Hi,
I wondered how everybody deals with getting data on their phone in each country they travel. Is there a way around it? It is always such a pain having to buy and activate sim cards everywhere. I have tried the company โ€œworldsimโ€ and had an international sim for a while, but they where terrible and ended up to be super expensive.

Whatโ€™s the best mobile-data option in Poland for nomads?

in Poland by @swynt 7yr 7 years ago  | 6 comments

Hi everyone! I will be heading to Poland in two weeks for around ten days. I will be in Poznan, Gdansk, Warschau and Krakau for travelling (the main purpose) and working (as freelancer). For working purpose, I need to be able to connect to internet for most of the time. So, could anyone give any advise which sim card and mobile data option should I get? It doesnโ€™t have to be cheap, but it should have good coverage area and big data plan (around 3 - 5 GB). Thanks.

What are the options for mobile internet in Phuket, Thailand?

in Phuket , Thailand by @alejandrow 8yr 8 years ago  | 1 comment

Hi,

I will be traveling in Thailand from november to december and would like to know which internet option I should choose. I need to use internet for writing and research and also 1-2 skype calls a week.

I need whatโ€™s best in Krabi and Phuketโ€ฆ I already have an unlocked pocket Wi-Fi that allows both 3G and 4G, so I only need a Sim Card filled with internet. Unlimited data would be the best, but in reality I would be fine with around 10 GB if the speed is good.

So which options do I have and what are your experience?

Regards!

What's the best mobile hotspot device for international travel?

by @stefanlesser 8yr 8 years ago  | 7 comments

Browsing this forum a lot, I learned that the best option for mobile data is buying a local SIM card in pretty much every country I go to. Ok, thatโ€™s manageable.

Now I was wondering which mobile hotspot to buy, because I will have more devices with me that I want to connect to the Internet, and my girlfriend will have even more devices with her to connect, too.

When I was looking at just one manufacturerโ€™s offerings, Iโ€™m already overwhelmed by the complexity of options.

Should I just use my main mobile phoneโ€™s hotspot feature for this?
Should I get a separate mobile hotspot device for that? Which one? Any recommendations?
How do you do this?

Can I make work calls from Saigon via VOIP?

by @ericvan 8yr 8 years ago  | 14 comments

I do client work, and am wondering if Internet reliability is a factor for making the regular VoIP calls expect to do? I donโ€™t mind paying for good VoIP (prefer skype). In the US, I got vonage and found it not so reliable, as the โ€œquality of serviceโ€ โ€ฆa metric that is not important for regular Internet useโ€ฆwas a problem. Anyone have experience on this issue?

What's the best mobile-data option in Thailand for nomads?

in Thailand by @iamfledge 8yr 8 years ago  | 17 comments

As I donโ€™t know how long I may be in Thailand so canโ€™t commit to a minimum term like a 12-month contract (1-month rolling is ok).

Iโ€™m hoping to find the best SIM to stick in my phone and get as much data as possible - ideally enough for laptop tethering when Wi-Fi isnโ€™t immediately available also.

Is it possible to either sign-up in advance and get it delivered; or to get it from a shop and activate it that day? Or is there a waiting time of days for it to be sent and activated?

What is the best mobile carrier for a foreigner in USA?

by @wcitizen 9yr 9 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi DN community! Iโ€™m going to spend 4 month in US and wondering if somebody can recommend me cheap, but reliable=), mobile operator. Requirements:

  • simcard should be suitable for my unlocked iPhone
  • minor usage of texting and callings
  • minor usage of internet data, but with 4G support
Hope this makes sense. Happy to add more specific info, if needed.

Cheers!

What's the best noise-canceling microphone for remote VOIP calls?

by @mikevallano 9yr 9 years ago  | 16 comments

Being nomadic comes with its fair share of background noise (roosters, motorcycles, speakers on trucks announcing todayโ€™s fruit specials, celebratory explosions, etc.).

While lots of fun, it can be distracting during client calls, which I typically hold via Google Voice or Skype just using my macbookโ€™s built-in microphone.

I donโ€™t want to carry an extra headset, especially if itโ€™s over-the-ear and looks like Iโ€™m working at a call center.

Itโ€™d be really nice to have quality earbuds that also have a decent mic built in, but I have yet to find anything that fits the bill.

Does anyone have a good earbud/microphone solution?

What gear do you use for mobile wifi?

by @richlitt 9yr 9 years ago  | 6 comments

Iโ€™ve got an iPhone 5s, which I have used to work remotely by tethering in Europe and in the States. Iโ€™m heading to SEA in a couple of weeks, and Iโ€™ll be getting a SIM card there - but should I buy something else, with better range, or for the local 3G connection there?

What do you use?

Is Bangkok's internet good enough for professional VOIP?

in Bangkok , Thailand by @douwe 9yr 9 years ago  | 10 comments

Hi everebody,

I am new on nomadlist. We are from Holland but are now living in Spain.
We have a home based telemarketing company which is based in Holland. We work with a Voip connection in Spain where we call to Holland. This works perfect.

We are thinking of moving to Bangkok. Best way to find out is to test offcourse, but before that I was curious if there is someone here who has experience with a good voip connection from Asia to Europe.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Douwe

How do I use mobile-based 2-Factor Authentication while traveling?

by @iamfledge 9yr 9 years ago  | 7 comments

Itโ€™s just occurred to me that I have mobile-based 2-factor auth for almost all of my critical online accounts.

Iโ€™m about to head off from London through multiple countries, so not sure I can rely on my UK phone number to access those accounts.

Has anybody who uses 2-factor auth and regularly moves to different countries found a good solution to this?

Iโ€™m not really happy to disable 2-factor as a solution, and so far Iโ€™m thinking my best bet might be to set up a Skype number that I can then forward on to any mobile number Iโ€™m using at the time.
