San Juan is amazing. Tons of beautiful views and restaurants everywhere. If you like Latin America, you'll like San Juan. It is more expensive than other LatAm hubs, but it has better infrastructure and is safer. There are many different vibes you can get on the island. Old San Juan is like Europe but more colorful. Condado is closer to Miami but with a better beach. There is the only rainforest in America just 20 minutes away, not to mention all the other beautiful parts of the island. I wo

HOWEVER, Santo Domingo is the capital of the country. Just like most Capitals in Latin America (Mexico City being the exception), it's not worth visiting much time. If you want to experience what the Dominican Republic has to offer (Beaches, Nature, Friendly Locals) as a nomad I would recommend Las Terrenas or Cabarete.

It has a lot of local tourism from Dominicans so there are a lot of excursions like horseback riding, rafting, excursions, waterfalls, parasailing and more. Not as humid as other places in DR. It's true it's a city with a not of nightlife or activity, but that's not why people move to Vancouver. You move to Vancouver if you want a relaxed lifestyle with beautiful nature and access to the outdoors, fresh air, and a good climate (by Canadian standards), without having to give up on the comforts of a city-lifestyle. While it's expensive, you mostly get quality. My rental is not that much more expensive than I paid in many european cities,

Weather is miserable for 4-5 months a year. Nightlife is average. Taxes are high. Every conversation with someone from here devolves into how expensive it is (and honestly, it's not particularily expensive... compared to other large english speaking cities). Transit isn't great. City doesn't feel particularily well planned. If you want to live in a cold city, then go to Montreal or Berlin.
