This is the tricky part, after last year you need to register your phone if you want the sim card to work in Indonesia. If your phone value is over 300eur, you need to pay Indonesian goverment taxes from your phone value
I heard some people take some special cards, that cards is only for internet, but I always was using hotspot or my girl phone
I recomend to ask somwbody else or take the budget way and bring cheaper phone and make that phone like a hotspot
But anyway you will going to need to register that phone if im right.

Taxes for phone is ridiculous high

Thank you. Where could I find more information about the project? Is it digital nomads.startupmadeira. I wrote an contact mail yesterday.
Import taxes for phone.
The import taxes will depend on a few things. As a passenger you are allowed to carry 2 phones per person with a combined value of up to USD 500. If your phone(s) are not above the maximum allowed USD 500 value then you donโ€™t have to pay import taxes.

If your phone(s) have a value above the allowed USD 500 then you will be taxed on the value that exceeds USD 500. For example if your phone is valued at USD 700 then you will only be taxed on USD 200 (700 less 500).

The import tax will be ~30% if you have an Indonesian Tax Number (NPWP) or ~40% if you donโ€™t have an Indonesian Tax Number.
What a complicated process ๐Ÿ˜… I donโ€™t see a point taxing a phone for a personal use! Oh well I guess itโ€™s just another way for the government to make money.
I will defiantly check this special card trick when I get there
Probably in coworking space they will able to help you
Which bank? How's their service to get a new card to you when travelling?
Our plans are shaky. Immigration says we need to visit in person to submit application for exit visa for our son.
I heard that itโ€™s super cheap there, but dunno about accommodations and coworking
RBC in Canada, I wonโ€™t be using such a service
Is anyone in Cuzco right now?
I have a new better credit card waiting for me with a friend I was just hoping I wouldnโ€™t have to have it shipped out before I head back to Canada
Yeah keen to hear about that too
Anybody try Dutch Hub for co-working and know if they have fast internet? Download speeds at Vila Tako are <1mbps crysnail
yep I don't get why that stupid case...
I tried them yesterday and the sound quality is incredibly superior from Bose QC35II
noise cancelling also much better
Yes, people are doing that. Usually need to do the normal 30 day extension first then move to the covid one.
Bose QC35s
Darkroom for iOS
Has anyone ever checked out Digital Nomads Nation? They claim to have over 142k members which feels pretty over-inflated

(not sure if this is the best channel to ask around)
Looks like restrictions will stay in place for Koh Tao for another week delivery/takeout only, gyms, tattoos, massage shops closed. :(

Diving, beaches, etc etc still open and ok.

So living overall not so bad, but really feel for the businesses, staff and owners. Not easy times after 18 months.
that's interesting, i'm super curious about going to Berlin, but people keep saying how full of energy Lisbon have been. what is your perception about the difference between the two cities?
Iโ€™m trying out airalo and not having a great time. The UI is good but the internet is slow. As a test, I bought a physical SIM to compare. The physical SIM is getting 180mbps and the airalo SIM is getting 5mbps. Have other people experienced this?
Berlin si full of energy as well. Loads to do, a lot of people from different places. I love Berlin during summer months. But in autumn, winterโ€ฆ itโ€™s not the best, especially with the pandemic going on, as all the cool inside places are limited.

Plus, I just love summer, so following the sun for me makes a lot of sense ๐Ÿ˜Š Lisbon has a lot of energy as well, and I love that people just seem more relaxed in general.
any idea how to rent a car for a month in Spain mainland (preferably Barcelona) under 300โ‚ฌ?
mine in CZ was much faster then the physical.
guess it depends on the networks.

same as in ES, lebara works horrible while vodafone works amazing
that's nice, thanks for the perspective! hopefully i can arrive soon too, let's grab a drink if it happens while you are still in town
The cheapest Iโ€™ve seen is Cabrera Medina in Canarias, pre-covid I saw a few deals around that price but they donโ€™t work in the mainland as far as I know. Their website has currently a lowest price of 569โ‚ฌ but you may be able to get a better deal if you visit a location.
But if you do find something like that in Madrid let me know ๐Ÿ™‚
Oh sweet! What have you gotten up to so far? Let me know if youโ€™re free tomorrow afternoon, I might go check out the Frida Kahlo museum
Too bad I missed this! How was it?
Apps are always rated lower in Google Play vs the Apple App store because Apple allows an app to fully reset their reviews and start over while Google Play doesn't, so apps gets stuck with lower ratings.

VSCO is fine. I like Lightroom and Airbrush personally. Lightroom gives you a lot of control to edit
In Mรฉxico the Airalo eSIM using Movistar network gets about 7-10 Mbps. My physical Telcel SIM gets 60+ Mbps.
Greetings All! I'm planning to visit Cape Town for about a month in mid-November. Any suggestions of areas to stay? I'm over 50 so not really looking for a party scene but I'm active and would like to get out and about. I plan to visit Namibia during this time as well. Something walkable with a nice view would be ideal. Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of them and it has the feel of a crypto scam
Hey guys, arriving in Dubai on November 6th. I have just booked my accomodation in Deira. Would it be a hassle getting from Deira to the main city centre?
wait what? I ate in a restaurant twice yesterday, although one of them gave the food in takeaway boxes
Working days are Tuesday-Saturday ๐Ÿ˜ž But the park itself is great!
hi nbwvyiinkqm - Iโ€™ve signed up recently and canโ€™t reply to DMs for 7 days but feel free to post any questions here - Iโ€™m really enjoying the surfing here in Huanchaco but itโ€™s not for everybody, definitely no high performance waves and more of a beginner / intermediate spot from what Iโ€™ve seen so far
This is very similar to what Iโ€™m experiencing here
Ah ok! No worries. Thank you in advance for any info! Sounds like that wave would be good for me as im more intermediate level. Here are some of my follow up questions:
โ€ข What do you think of the town in general?
โ€ข What are the beaches like? Are they nice/beautiful spots to chill or more just for surfing? (i have hear the beaches in peru are not all that picturesque)
โ€ข Have you made it to Chicama yet?
Isnโ€™t there an immigration office in Danang?
Worth mentioning that while Airolo works it's almost 5x more expensive than local sims.

I bought a new phone for 1m idr ($60 USD) and use it as a hotspot. Great if you're planning on using a lot of data and/or staying longer.
Ya enforcement is mixed, and if you are on the beach or very near it you might technically be outside the restaurant. There are some that are just staying open too. Also the last couple of days some started to open up a bit as yesterday was the end of the original annoucement. The announced another week late yesterday.
PS - welcome to Koh Tao ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope to see you guys out and about sometime.
yeah i get that vibe as well - they also run a FB group that is teeming with "digital nomad coaches", etc.
i continue to be amazed at the cottage industry around digital nomad lifestyle
Hi all! in Medellรญn till tuesday evening then going to Cartagena
Yeah, but it's closed.
Has anyone been to Co.404 in San Cristobal? Planning to stay at least one month in San Cristobal, and seems like a good option
Langosta vs Tamarindo, which one would you pick?
Their Facebook group has 142k+ members so the numbers are right, but that doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™ve all signed up on their website
digital nomad coaches? omg ๐Ÿ™„
I only stay for a few months, so keeping my decade-old Allianz Global insurance.
Apart from that Oman insurance looked straight-forward and cheap.
Hard to define โ€œcity centreโ€ here. ๐Ÿ˜œ
Groupon has offers for 100 to 250 aed
I hate paying a lot for copays and having labs denied. Plus Iโ€™ll probably be here more often than not (unless things change). Canโ€™t figure out the best but not ridiculously expensive. Oman was good for me through a group but I donโ€™t know about their individual deals
True! I guess the most relevant question then is how efficient is public transport? Are there a lot of options to get around, or is uber your best bet?
Hi there, I was born in Beijing, Chinacn studied in Adelaide, Australiaflag-au and living in Zhuhai, Guangdong at this time, plan to move to Canadaflag-ca Maritimes Province for living a long term. Normally must make a call to the airplane company before booking the ticket to see if they still have "seats" for pet, also confirm the size and weight limit and flight case. Then booking the ticket and call back to them again to confirm if they receive your ticket order and tell them must reserve a seat for your pet. In general case, a flight only have 2 pet seats in their oxygen cabin, that mean you cannot take pet boarding if other passengers' fur kids occupy.

thank you! Today and tomorrow we'll be under water, afterwards we're free and definitely up for a meet-up, also with xbzfbbfahz
Any recommendations for cafes to work from in Cambridge?

I'm seeing a 30 day rental from Madrid for about 500 USD, with a 3000 km distance limit from "OK Rent a Car" via the "rentalcars" website (that's the domain - can't post links). Not familiar with "OK Rent a Car" car company though - you may need an international driving permit to use them.
Airalo resells basic packages
For ex DTAC in TH which I can buy superfast packages for
With DTAC app
Careem/public taxis are cheaper, but proportionately more frustrating. Donโ€™t be surprised if the driver ignores the GPS (or doesnโ€™t have it) and asks you how to get there
Wait waaat?! Does that mean if you bring a new iPhone youโ€™d have to pay several hundred USD in taxes when entering?! How do they check this?
What a stupid rule, I mean how does this work for short term tourism
Used to be so easy, just buy a SIM theyโ€™d snap your passport and thatโ€™s it
It was a strategy to discourage counterfeit devices being imported was what one of the cell shop owners told me
I prefer Porto too. It has a big city feeling but you can walk anywhere.
