I've never been single whole nomading till this year. Decided to try dating using Hinge/Tinder for the first time in Bali.
bkoldhqiwr2mo
One thing that struck me was that most of the people I found myself interested in wanted to meet people who live here, not just passing through.
prnxnispzb2mo
Makes sense, I suppose. Bali seems like a very transient place. I ended up going out with someone a couple times in Ubud, and then someone else last night in canggu. Both times, I ran into the same issue -- I was leaving in < 1 week and it just didn't feel like anything substantive would happen that fast.

(Trying to start a legit dating discussion here.)
mrttjvk2mo
Locals or fellow foreigners?
sqswzfz2mo
Bali and CM seem like good places to meet and date fellow nomads.

Fellow foreigners

How do people stay in Bali for long periods of time anyway? I seem to recall visas are fairly strict (30 days or something) in Indonesia.
carnvgwoxqa2mo
Yup traveling often means difficulties with forging lasting connections. Either travel less frequently or make more nomad friends
vhkifcbx2mo
There are visa options
xhosbsctp2mo
olywizru Option 1 you arrive, get stamp at airport after 30 days you have to leave. Option 2 you arrive, buy VOA which gives you 30 days, use agency to get extension, go to immigration for photo/fingers, get extra 30 days, you leave
ooricag2mo
Sounds troublesome. I'm in the "90 days or bust" slow-mad demographic ๐Ÿ˜…
qlhpqvgf2mo
There are 6 and 12 months visa options
lrkeodes2mo
Trough local agencies
kcmgwgnggin2mo
Just fly out to kuala lumpur for a weekend trip and get your 3rd month
ocqmiwvtg2mo
In that case either do return flight to KL/singapore for another stamp every 30 days, or go for 6/12 month visa
osdxzzg2mo
Looks like it's easier than I remember it being last time I scoped it out. (Link in a thread...)
bxfoibp2mo
Somehow I still haven't been to Indonesia despite spending the last 6 or 7 years in the region.
vpnxinfzc2mo
Yeah, if you really want to stay long term social visa would be best, I think you still have to pay every month and visit immigration, but at least you don't need to fly or whatever. I think workukbcbyb was/is staying in Bali long term through that visa so she might know more
ibenwqc2mo
On the dating tip, if you're only staying somewhere a short while I feel like it should be helpful mention your location flexibility if you meet someone you see some potential with, and otherwise leave it open and free of expectations... but my sense is that all these complications are trash-compacted into "this shifty, unreliable person is only looking for a hook-up" most of the time.
yxreqtirvdquzql2mo
My friend is on some kind of โ€œbusinessโ€ visa thatโ€™s valid for a year, was competitively priced. No paperwork needed
uozsmwxew2mo
tjxxkrsbowk yes the biggest problem of nomad dating, everyone transient. Only way to somewhat solve is to repeatedly visit the same few places.
hwnuxn2mo
I also always fall for people not as transient...
bdkyfohz2mo
or to be up front with travel plans for the next 6 months and only match with people that have the exact same travel plans? ๐Ÿ˜‰
vjrmva2mo
And there is always this slight imbalance where the time seems to count more for me because of visa days, etc
nolabxejobn2mo
wgaddqlxvx Think another way around it (outside of visiting the same places a lot) is find someone that wants to nomad with you and go places together.
thkqnqbwryw2mo
Not saying thatโ€™s easy to find but Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s possible!
mtayepinv2mo
csfyxbnbqxys yes, I did exactly that, met while nomading in a hub, then nomaded for a few years together, then settled somewhere from where we nomad
hbhepm2mo
thatโ€™s the dream, really
gwfgfwjbwlcujofs2mo
Same. My gf and I nomad together when Iโ€™m in Asia. We started chatting after meeting once while travelling, then decided after a year of chatting to spend a few months together, now I go back to Asia every couple months to spend time with her. ๐Ÿ˜Š
xvhpeoziyyuwewvy2mo
Itโ€™s been two years now. We still live separately, but weโ€™ve been starting to make plans to live together somewhere.
