I'm in Amsterdam for one month, anybody want's to meet up?
hidden for non-members2mo
Hi folks! My ex partner and I are renting out our fully furnished apartment in Amsterdam starting October 13th. We want to rent out long term, but if there's anyone on here who wants to stay in Amsterdam for anything above, say, 1.5 months we'd be happy to rent it out for shorter, too.

It's all our own furniture, lots of kitchen equipment et cetera, so it's not your average short-stay apartment.

I've linked the page with photos and details in my profile text.

If anyone is interested, send me a direct message. :)

Yeah no I'll have to dissapoint you, affordable doesn't exist in Amsterdam
hidden for non-members1mo
Best bet is take a 30min train to Utrecht which is more affordable
hidden for non-members1mo
Or just bite the bullet and get the credit card out and book an expensive hotel

Anyway Utrecht is a GREAT option
hidden for non-members1mo
^^ Can confirm. Loved Utrecht

I think among us North Americans, where everything is spread out, staying in a city different than your "destination" city doesn't occur naturally in our thought process
hidden for non-members1mo
Haha yes exactly, you have to see Netherlands as Los Angeles
hidden for non-members1mo
Amsterdam is Downtown

Utrecht is Silver Lake

hidden for non-members1mo
We need to have easy access to ams
hidden for non-members1mo
With those prices you could rent an RV and stay for free
hidden for non-members1mo
I stayed one minute away from the free boat that takes you to the central station several days
hidden for non-members1mo
Utrecht better than Leiden

Otherwise check out Rotterdam also nice

And cheaper

tcejidhclox Rotterdam is really nice, and has plenty to do...quite a different vibe as well from Amsterdam. Also look at Den Haag (The Hague), Haarlem (very close to Amsterdam).

All these cities/towns have direct train lines to Amsterdam. The trains are not expensive, run regularly and fairly often. Haarlem's small so you might want to go into Amsterdam a bit from there but Den Haag and Rotterdam can keep you sufficiently happy with plenty of things to do.

Amsterdam's really nice, but it depends what you're looking for. There's a lot of tourists, particularly in the area around the central train station. Whatever you want to do... drink + go out, sightsee, eat some tasty food, bike around, take a canal boat, etc, all that stuff's available in Rotterdam as well. Rotterdam's a newer looking city since it was bombed to dust in the 2nd World War and was rebuilt since then with a heavy modernist influence of those rebuilding years.

Den Haag's not all international criminal court and embassies, there's an old town that's typical of Dutch old towns. Scheveningen is the beach area of Den Haag, and is very nice (just not in the colder months).

That being said I lived in Amsterdam for 4 years and it was wonderful there. If you want the Amsterdam experience, go and get a hotel/airbnb. If you look for stuff more on the outskirts towards the south you could luck out on price, just rent a bike or take the perfectly adequate tram/train/bus system to wherever you want to go.
hidden for non-members1mo
jvhkqbrqyeqykl exactly, Amsterdam is kinda like Vegas, I know people want that particular experience, but it's not very local anymore
hidden for non-members1mo
if you want that experience, just pay lots of money and do it properly, go in the center, go red light district, smoke weed, sit in the park and bbq and eat baguettes and have wine, then go to techno clubs etc. nice weekend/week

Amsterdam at a budget = SUFFERING

fawtppbl this is in east Amsterdam, but on Weesperstraat there is a hotel called Zoku and they have a great coworking space. Top of my head itโ€™s ~ โ‚ฌ 10 to work there for the day, and itโ€™s quite nice. Itโ€™s all the way at the top and in summer you can work from a hammock on their roof :slightly_smiling_face:

Another hotel closer to yours I sometimes work from, and will still be open at 18.00, is the Hoxton. Downstairs they have a great place to work in and you just need to buy a drink, including a big table with power sockets
