Smoke has been terrible since I've arrived ๐Ÿ˜ท
And there's no real end in sight for the bushfires. Maybe May.
south coast nsw is on fire now. ๐Ÿ˜
Yea I've been keeping an eye on the Brisbane area and it seems fine so far, but my parents are already talking about cancelling their flights ๐Ÿ™„ I might just end up going by myself ๐Ÿคท
my heart goes out to the whole continent
Ive been holding myself for 2 days not writing this reading the news...but this โ˜๏ธ
Flights donโ€™t have to be cancelled but yeah def an ongoing disaster that is getting worse in the affected areas. Military and navy has been called in now.
yea I am waiting to see what this weekend brings to get an idea of whether I need to consider cancelling my Brisbane trip
definitely looks to be creeping that way
Unless your itinerary involves visiting affected areas I wouldnโ€™t be too concerned about a ruined trip, central Brisbane would be normal I would expect.
yea I think worst case is we stay in town
Brisbane is quite far from any of the fires tbh
we were hoping to do a road trip up/dpwn the coast
to sunshine/golden coast
which are much close to fires
We are all the way down in Tasmania where there are no fires. It's actually not safe some days to go outside due to all the smoke making it's way down here. ๐Ÿ˜•
I'm in sydney, the last couple of weeks hasn't been too bad. its was so bad I stayed in doors in mid december.

just spent the whole of christmas at the beach and doing outdoorsy things, I wouldn't let the fires put off a visit to the city and northern beaches
its really bad in the blue mountains which is really sad ๐Ÿ˜ž
looks like no new significant fires in the last 12 hours near Brisbane. Although this air quality forcast looks really dire - aqicn.org/city/brisbane/
I wonder how they determine that. Just wind direction?
Good to hear, flying in today from Thailand. Been keeping an eye on the air measurements and Sydney has mostly been better than Chiang Mai for the last few weeks, despite the surrounding fires
amazing what data they have, eg. plotting real time lightning strikes
Iโ€™ll be there in a few weeks so will let ya know
yeah the wind is sending alot of the smoke over to nz atm
pretty crazy
Ouch, heading off to NZ tomorrow, but hopefully today's rain in NSW can dampen the fires a bit
yeah i think it was a rare event but people couldnt see mount cook!
happy travels! are you working remote?
Nah, building stuff for myself, but don't think I'll get much work done in NZ, figured I'd pop over when in the timezone (been 6w in Chiang Mai) before it's back to Europe
very nice
Hi. I'm doing a poor job of Googling so I figured I'lll ask here.
Does this mean I can be in Australia until 19 Nov 2020 as long as it's in 90-day increments?
i.e. I arrived on Dec 1 so I should leave around Feb 27. I can come back a few days later for another 90 days?
they should have a hotline number
probably the quickest and most accurate way of getting an answer
Get Moneyย โ€” Australiaโ€™s TRS scheme reimburses their 10% GST
I had a great experience claiming reimbursement for GST through the TRS scheme on my way through Brisbane airport, while leaving Australia. If you buy more than $300 of stuff at a shop, youโ€™ll likely qualify to get that 10% GST back!
Big props to Mall Grab and Lou Karsh for using their music to support Australia. Great unreleased stuff in there :sparkles:

Sydney is a little smokey during the day.. it's not too bad and ok to visit/live, but you can defintely smell or see the smoke when looking in the distance.
If anyone is in Melbourne for the next month or so, my travel partner (<@UMQ4HM3NX>) and I would love to meet up around the city for coffee or dinner/drinks on the weekends.

Obviously I was staying in the CBD...
jbkpaiaxor beautiful! Weโ€™re staying a bit a bit North of CBD and then St. Kilda but will 100% be spending a few workdays a week in CBD so will be checking these out!
Thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚
You got it. Most of those places, except for Market Lane Coffee, are good for food. And in case you haven't heard of it, like some people, try a Flat White at least once. You'll become hooked for life ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, be sure to check out Brunswick St. Pretty hipster area, but not in a bad way. Naked for Satan is a cool place to go there goo.gl/maps/RQ2WaRgZiSz2pBU37
For cocktails, check Romeo Lane goo.gl/maps/tz7i1baajKRQQk4x6 and Melbourne Supper Club goo.gl/maps/G9mbYc3pq1jUiXY29 as well as Berlin Bar (which is a bit gimmicky but alright nonetheless goo.gl/maps/1ifdyyFoutEgQafF7
Probably many other places too that I'm just forgetting
Also, Melbourne is big on the rooftop bars

Thank you so much.

We are staying near Brunswick street so will be checking out that spot and the swanky hipster vibe is kind of cool to see here.

Be down in CBD today and going to check out at least two of these coffee shops and try a flat white because I've never heard of it. :joy:

Also big rooftop bar guy so that's fantastic!
You MUST do Naked for Satan, that was my fav rooftop bar in Melbs.
Went there on Saturday then headed to CBD after. Beautiful views!
Yayy! Glad you enjoyed it. Not sure if you or your travel partner are LGBTQ+ but there is also Midsummer festival happening at the moment ๐Ÿ˜„
wow, Brisbane has amazing urban planning and some of the best river walks I've seen
so much easily accessible
very beautiful and well maintained
I love Brisbane. A bit vanilla but overall so enjoyable.
yea it seems like a great place to raise kids
if youโ€™re here at the mo, Iโ€™ve just found a great cafe to work at called Books and Beans ๐Ÿ˜„
Do you guys recommend Melbourne as a place to spend ~ 1 month compared to other cities in Australia?
In terms of co-working spaces, nightlife, meeting other nomads etc
yup, itโ€™s a great spot
not sure about meeting nomads since Melb is pretty expensive and most of them are leaving the city instead of staying there ๐Ÿค”
pmaweiap definitely recommend Melbourne, great for all of those things, though maybe not as many nomads, as majkp23 suggested
One of my favorite cities on the planet!
Big thumbs up from me too ezzrbfzh you wont be bored down there
Awesome, thx guys
Melbourne is my fav Australian city. Itโ€™s just great in every aspect. The only thing that really letโ€™s it down compared to other Aussie cities is the weather being unpredictable.
Oh. It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as Sydney. Be prepared to spend $12-15 for a beer
More for cocktails
Whatever, it's worth it to spend time there for a while if you can afford it
if your spending $12-15 for a beer your probably in a really touristy area
beers should be $7 max at a standard bar
How does Melbourne compare to Brisbane? It is as accessible and park/walk/activity filled?
never been to Brisbane(planning to visit this year!), but Melb is in my opinion as a fella from Europe, very walkable and active
People walk in Melbourne? I thought they just stand at the tram platform for 10 minutes waiting, and they could've walked those 10 minutes to their destination ๐Ÿ˜†
(p.s. I've done that on occasion)
Currently my first week into a month in Melbourne. I like it! All the Libraries are basically free co-working spaces, hoping nightlife, and I havenโ€™t met other nomads but tons of young professionals and about 20% of the population is international students so youโ€™ll meet a bunch of great individuals whether theyโ€™re a digital nomad or not.
Brisbane has a lot more hills and is much more sub-tropical. In terms of getting around, you can easily get to the CBD and most suburbs within 2-5km by bike. Brisbane has some pretty solid city parks and the CBD is really walkable. In terms of activities, a lot of people walk / jog / ride along the river and seeing as the sun is up around 4:45am, there are lots of active people around so the riverwalks get fairly busy! Brisbane has an awesome climbing wall over at Kangaroo Point! You can also take the CityCat (ferry on the river) to see the city from the water, it's really great at night! Brisbane isn't the liveliest of places during the night, but it still has some cool spots to go out, like Fortitude Valley, Howard Smith Wharves, Eagle St Pier, Caxton St, Eat St Markets ... But yeah Brisbane is more a "morning person" kind of city...

Melbourne is much larger and flatter. It's great they have the trams, so that makes it easier to move around but the CBD has far larger city blocks. Still, there are some great parks in and around the city, too. I like Melbourne because it has a lot of vibrant suburbs outside of the city, places like Fitzroy, South Yarra, St Kila, Richmond, Brighton are worth exploring (obviously tons more than just those). Melbourne has a more lively eating/drinking/going out scene and I'd recommend it for going out to cool bars, cafes and restaurants. And of course, footy, tennis, cricket, rugby, football ... Melbourne has some world class sporting venues!
Awesome info, thanks ygdjmdzksxpoowxoxymi
I should be in Brisbane between the 8th and 14th on Feb (work stuff) just waiting on my visa.

So which of you in Sydney are one of these scumbags ๐Ÿคฃ
Yup, in Scarborough area for next few weeks.
Lmfao! it always seemed like a world far from the world
I should be in Brisbane from 8th of Feb ๐Ÿ˜‰ visa has been approved.
