Where are you on the Sunshine Coast, U01JJJZ3BMF? Let me know if you feel like meeting for a coffee sometime ๐Ÿ™‚ I had been planning to slowly move around Asia a little (was supposed to meet my ๐Ÿšต sister in Vietnam originally!) then catch some friends in Seattle & Vancouver, before ending up back in Europe somewhere, but ๐Ÿคท who knows now!!

Have you been to NZ before? such a beautiful place. Iโ€™d been keeping fingers crossed for that border bubble too, if the rest of the world continued to look uninviting! maybe swap the ๐Ÿ„ for the ๐Ÿ‚ and fall flat on my face in different waysโ€ฆ
With all the restrictions for people entering in Australia, Iโ€™m surprised there is not a negative PCR test result? Am I wrong?
the majority of our cases are from travellers entering aus
ojqfgqtjdqvswxd what do you mean? as I understand it, if youโ€™re flying in to oz (unless from NZ) , you need a negative PCR test prior to arrivaland then you have 2 week mandatory quarantine (assuming you can get a flight, and need to be resident or citizen)
Oh ok so it's just that everything but New Zealand is a red zone
I have a flight already. Not a citizen or resident but I have a travel exemption
As a software engineer
Seems like the test must have a date less than 72 hours from departure, not from arrival
yep, that is the standard for all countries mostly
otherwise you could be stranded during your layover ๐Ÿ˜…
right, makes sense but I wanted to be sure
By the way, as Iโ€™m coming back to Sydney in a few weeks and I started to hang out a bit on NL, I wonder whether there is enough active people from the community for things like dinners/meetups?
out of curiosity, what did you mention in your exemption request?
I also got a visa since 2020, but canโ€™t enter the country
and I canโ€™t say that I have an employer waiting for me in oz ๐Ÿ˜…
so I wonder if I have to be super explicit, since Iโ€™ve seen that gov noted programmer as โ€˜highly desirable professionโ€™ ๐Ÿค”
What kind of visa are you on?
Iโ€™m on 457 employer sponsored visa since June 2018
I think I just handed over the passport and the visa grant in the exemption request
If you qualify as โ€œsoftware engineerโ€ you should be eligible for the exemption, but I wonder what working visa you may have if you donโ€™t have an employer
ah
476
itโ€™s pretty rare visa I heard!
According to covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/critical-skills-and-sectors#toc-2|this, it seems that one must be
> sponsored by your employer to work in Australia in an occupation on theย
Have you tried to get hired by some company? After that you can probably get an exemption quite easily
I havenโ€™t, but the benefit of my visa is that Iโ€™m not dependent on my employer
I see.
I mean, Iโ€™m understanding that youโ€™re not looking for a job in Australia, are you?
Are you self-employed and nomading around?
grum3mo
9 months without community transmission here in WA. That number drastically changes on the other side of the country.
It seems that except large gatherings and masks in closed public spaces, restrictions are pretty shallow compared to Europe
mwpvtwrwyrjbxzl don't forget the travel declaration! I did and was stuck in Los Angeles for 8 days. I would have been stuck in LA longer if it wasn't for Japan Airlines going above and beyond to get me on an American Airlines flight. I'm in Sydney now and am into a meetup. There hasn't been a new covid case in NSW for a few days now. hopefully by the time you get out of quarantine, the situation should be even better.
It feels very normal in Sydney. More than happy to meet up with fellow NL peeps in the CBD on a weekday
Iโ€™m not in Brisbane but pass through occasionally - if any folks are that way, Iโ€™d also be up for meeting, given the restrictions have eased again from tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚
Oh wow :scream:
Iโ€™ve read about travel declaration and put bold reminder to do so two days before departure
itโ€™s quite a stressing checklist

white_check_mark Travel exemption
white_check_mark Flight booked (thank god I had spare Qatar miles, prices was like 3000$ and now itโ€™s up to 10.000$ one way)
white_check_mark Covid test with 24h result booked
white_check_mark Travel declaration reminder
And still I fear that my flight or my ticket might be cancelled a few days before departure
sounds good then, letโ€™s catch up soon
I think this slack is a good place to start for such people
๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Iโ€™d love to get in to oz but I donโ€™t want to work for a local company ๐Ÿ˜… at least at the beginning.
I wonder if they gonna extend my deadline
I shouldโ€™ve been here already, but theyโ€™d extended it to july
yup. it took me three tries to get here. good luck!
zbbvrajrxvuds just arrived in Sydney, #australia
Hi mate!
In case you landed from overseas, would you share some feedback on the hotel quarantine?
Iโ€™m due to experience it in 10 days and feeling a bit anxious simple_smile
Just paid a $30 admin fee on a toll road
country is nuts
I paid $80 for a bunk bed in Sydney
Qatar Airways just advised me that my flight was pushed back for 10 days ๐Ÿ˜ข
I wonder if itโ€™s just the first of a long series of cancellations
uh oh
๐Ÿ˜”
the states just announced they are raising the flight caps a little. but travelers in business and first get priority.
