Let's say I don't really care about going to the beach. Do I pick #sydney or #melbourne as my first Australian DN city?
hidden for non-members2mo
if you like coffee and cafes then melbourne
hidden for non-members2mo
if you like sights and scenary go to sydney
hidden for non-members2mo
if your time is split half and half i would do melbourne first
hidden for non-members2mo
If you pick Melbourne you might never leave. Awesome city.

Melbourne ๐Ÿ’ฏ
hidden for non-members2mo
I mean, everybody is different, but I found Melbourne way more interesting and fun than Sydney.
hidden for non-members2mo
I could easily live there if it 1) weren't on the other side of the planet from everything else and 2) weren't so effing expensive. (Sydney is more expensive, BTW)
hidden for non-members2mo
I enjoyed Melbourne more than Sydney. Good thing we stayed there longer.

yesssss
hidden for non-members14d
Hope you can read that ^^ Most of this is doable without car (because I don't want to use one). She also mentioned Eaglehawk Neck and Port Arthur (a historic site that's a detainee camp) but these are far away. Maybe there are tours or you have a car anyway.

Hi everyone! Anyone here will be in Adelaide in Dec-Jan?
hidden for non-members4d
Can anybody recommend a cafรฉ in Melbourne CBD with decent wifi? I need to listen in to a talk tomorrow for about an hour. Did the same today but could only get VicFreeWifi which kicked me out 2-3 times in an hour, so less than optimal solution, and a place with its own wifi would be much preferred. Thx!
hidden for non-members4d
I'm from Sydney, btw. But also like moving to different cities and live there for some time.
hidden for non-members4d
btw, does somebody from sydney like astronomy?
hidden for non-members4d
+1 amaysim
hidden for non-members4d
when i go back to sydney i just get the unlimited data pack and tether rather than proper internet because 4g is nearly as fast in aus
hidden for non-members3d
you can work around it kicking you off.
change your mac-address
hidden for non-members3d
Thanks! The wifi was very slow on top of kicking me out, so not worth mucking around with it. I googled and found a ton of articles that listed cafรฉs in Melbourne with good wifi and/or friendly to digital nomads, so I ended up going to one of them, and it was indeed good.
hidden for non-members18h
Which plan do you use? Amaysim has some beefy packages (150GB+) for 90 bucks. You can probably get a better deal by calling them. I haven't seen them offering unlimited data though.
hidden for non-members18h
Exactly, just renew your mac address (usually referrered to as "spoofing" as well). You can get 100GB on Amaysim for 70 bucks.
hidden for non-members17h
Its probably the 150Gb one, it was more than enough data to worry about running out.
