Hi! Does anybody has experience with a layover in Australia? It's probably a layover of 19h. Do we need an Eta? Thanks so much!
If you intend to leave the airport I believe you just need a tourist visa. Just need to be vaxed.

I hear you, felt the same when I left ๐Ÿคฃ
curious, why? :D
Hey gang, I need an Australian phone number for various accounts I have here, are there any eSIM providers here that let you you keep your number without constantly paying for it? I'm only here once every few years for a few weeks.
I have a US Google Fi number that I can just pause and resume the plan on so I get to keep the number when I pause my plan, anything similar to this in Aus?
Same. I've been paying 40AUD a month just to acces myGov, but would love to find an alternative ๐Ÿ˜‚
I would kinda have to get into politics... But basically I thought it was a very authoritarian-backwards society. Most Australian people are friendly on the surface but it's difficult to "get in" their circles. Very anglo-saxon mindset. Everything is kind of fake. Also, everything revolved around gambling and drinking. I was there for 2 years Murray Bridge, Adelaide, Alice Springs and Melbourne. With COVID in Melbourne I saw how fascist the government can be and got tired and left.
I have a mygov account also but I don't need a phone number to use it. Old requirement maybe?
ALDI Mobile "pay as you go" was the best option I could find. $5 credit lasts for a year. Not eSIM though. And note that some countries off the beaten path are not supported in their roaming
Another, more techy, option I considered was using Twilio. AU phone number costs USD $6 per month and then a few cents for every message received. You can also port your existing number but there is a bit of a process for AU numbers
Hi! I really hope someone can help/has more info. We have a layover of 19h in Melbourne where we have to collect our own luggage ourselves. This means that we need a transit visa. We are currently in Sri Lanka and now they are asking for biometrics and require us to physically go to the Australian office in Colombo. We don't have time for this and kind of freaking out. Did anybody had experience with this?
Yup. Small mind mentality, authoritarian af Government, not a great place for ambitious souls.
Using Twilio sounds interesting, I'll give that a try, the traditional options suck so far. Optus provisioned me an eSIM but they've had some nationwide system outage for the last few days so I've paid $28 for no internet since Friday smh
Unfortunately Twilio is not ideal for 2FA since it cannot receive messages from alpha numeric senders and short codes are hit and miss. I did have it working with some services though so ymmv. The only way to find out is to give it a shot on the service you need.
I know for sure it does not work for myGov but you can use the myGov code generator app which also sucks. Iโ€™m locked out of there right now until I find time to call themโ€ฆ

Welcome! Pretty cold here atm though)
How is Australia now? Specifically Melbourne?
except for Adelaide / Perth
Wow I loved it there during covid
But I have a typical American mindset and dgaf. Maybe that's why their rules didn't bug me because i ignored them ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

If youโ€™re asking in regards to COVID and that, Melbourne is probably the worst city to be going to.

Sydney is a lot more open and less draconian in regards to restrictions

nteaint how so? was planning on doing melbourne for a week
zyfcdtulwvxan Melbourne has vax passes for pretty much everything still, and Iโ€™m pretty sure you even need a booster for certain venues (though not 100% on this). COVID Alarmism is alive and well in Melb compared to Syd, although to be honest, if youโ€™re going for a week, I think youโ€™d be able to get around any annoying restrictions anyways.
ivzrutk that's surprising, considering NSW is currently dealing with worse cases than VIC ๐Ÿ˜‚ .. but yeah, i guess as long as i steer clear of the city i'll be okay
anyone up for a road trip from sydney to wherever? ๐Ÿ˜„

Hey!! Great to have an Australian channel!!
Anyone from Sydney
Hey guys. Anyone here who resides in Australia but has a company registered overseas?
yes - I have a Singapore company
hahaha today was ridiculous, the sun was shining and then bam it's pissing down
trueeeโ€ฆ starting from Friday forecast looks promising ๐Ÿคž
Whatโ€™s your experience been? Any downsides that youโ€™ve run up against?
None as yet but I am about to leave Australia for Europe. My understand is that the ATO will consider it like an Australian company if an Australian is the major shareholder so the benefits of having a Singapore company aren't available. I would speak with an accountant/ financial advisor on the best setup. My understanding is that if you are an AU resident you are better to have an AU company (taxes, grants, simplicity)
crowds are still down in the CBD, but creeping up week by week. vaccine checks are only at big venues/events. no one checks at restaurants/shops. weather is cooling down but imo autumn/early winter is a great time to visit the hinterland and even the coast!

Does anyone know how long do you need to stay out of Australia to re-enter on a tourist visa after 3 months, please?
Hi all! I'm American and looking to fly to Australia for a month-long visit. How are things with visas and covid rn? thanks!
Daily covid cases are high but life is really back to normal. I often carry a mask in my pocket just in case but I havenโ€™t worn it in months (and it feels great!).

Also visa situation back to normal as long as you are vaccinated
life is normal, it is recommended to wear a mask in public spaces, youโ€™re good to go if you got 2 shots ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Has anyone been / or planning to go to Fiji?
I read on the Fiji website "All travelers (12 years+) must take a pre-booked Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) after 48 hours but before 72 hours of arrival into Fiji, at their hotel or nearby testing facility."

When I ask the hotel they say:
"No need for the PCR test at the hotel."
I've been looking at going there as a stop over to Vanuatu. I assume as an American I would need a test before I got on the plane
Hello! Anyone recently travel to Queensland (eg. Carins) from abroad? It looks like you need an antigen test on arrival. If youโ€™re connecting through Sydney with a stopover, then its two tests total?
It seems like the New South Wales (Sydney) test can be done as a self test but that the Queensland (Cairns) one has to be at a gov approved site. Any insight appreciated ๐Ÿคฏ
๐Ÿ›ฌ sthtbxnjzclclslrq just arrived in Noosa Heads, #australia
As per the NSW one I can say that itโ€™s more an advice to get self-tested as itโ€™s not enforced in any way.
