Yeah, I guess it's expensive because they don't really want this kind of customer. It's a very big and open space so they don't really see who's coming/going.
hidden for non-members2mo
That extra 220โ‚ฌ per month can give you a very nice airbnb to work from
hidden for non-members2mo
Personally, I'm willing to pay a bit extra for a workspace if it comes with community.
hidden for non-members2mo
Thats the tough part though - a lot of remote workers (myself included) just want to show up and indulge in the community, but aren't around/available to invest in helping to build it.
hidden for non-members2mo
That is right, if it has a good community aspect when it's easier to spend that money (I didn't mind paying for Hubud in Bali for community, it also had just events membership so you could participate even if you did not want to work from it), but if it's just some uncomfortable desk/chair somewhere it's harder to validate why you are spending that money
hidden for non-members2mo
Sometimes it's all about increasing productivity, not reducing costs
hidden for non-members2mo
Going to check out the Lego Bugatti
hidden for non-members2mo
I shall send photos

Worst case I'm sure Hungarian prisons are nice and cozy ๐Ÿ˜„
hidden for non-members2mo
That would be a negative. I've had to visit the Police Station twice. I do not desire to go back. And I wasn't behind the bars.
hidden for non-members2mo
I can't imagine the prisons are cozier. ๐Ÿ˜›
hidden for non-members2mo
Super cool detail on the BUgatti.
hidden for non-members2mo
ANd the iPad lets you turn on the engine, lights, etc.
hidden for non-members2mo
That reminds me that where is a recently closed prison, should probably join a tour to see how it looks like
hidden for non-members2mo
Don't really care much about lego or cars, but this seems like would have been an interesting thing to see
hidden for non-members2mo

hidden for non-members2mo
hey guys, I arrived in Budapest for the first time a few days ago. I'm working out of Kaptar. Who'd like to get a coffee or beer sometime? It's always nice to meet fellow nomads and to exchange notes.
hidden for non-members2mo
How's JS Conf?
hidden for non-members2mo
Open bar????
hidden for non-members2mo
Hi Justin, coffee and/or beer sounds good!

Moving to Buda side today for a week
hidden for non-members2mo
I will checkout Kaptar today
hidden for non-members2mo
Joined Kaptar, fixed desk across road from reception
hidden for non-members2mo
Szia peeps! I'll be looking for lunch/dinner/drink buddies this week. Stole bvkrhzkkfwawg idea and working out of Kaptar for the next month+
hidden for non-members2mo
That's awesome. Come say hi when you are there next. I'll be working in the open space area in the main building.
hidden for non-members2mo
Came back in for night session - managed to set of all the alarms ๐Ÿ˜›
hidden for non-members2mo
haha. They didn't explain to you how to turn it off and on?
hidden for non-members2mo
Let's get coffee sometime in the next few days. Which day is best for you?
hidden for non-members2mo
No, slight oversight for someone signing up for 24x7
hidden for non-members2mo
I'll be back in space on Monday
hidden for non-members2mo
cool so lets aim for Monday afternoon

hidden for non-members2mo
I'll be out for a bit and back around 4pm
hidden for non-members2mo
Ok. I'm heading there shortly.
hidden for non-members2mo
Yeh, one of the better coworking spaces I've worked from. I recommend it.
hidden for non-members2mo
Joined today along with my cousin. Seems nice
hidden for non-members2mo
Back at the helm now. When's a good time for a coffee break?
hidden for non-members2mo
Sorry man, I missed your message. I'm here now if you want to come say hi.
hidden for non-members2mo
sure thing
hidden for non-members2mo
Still there? denhzhnzkav
hidden for non-members2mo
Yea
hidden for non-members2mo
I've been working from Airspace with a bunch of Nomads from the Whatsapp group. It's a steal, they're just starting off so it's only 5 euros per day.
hidden for non-members2mo
Where is this? Never heard of it.
hidden for non-members2mo
Fast internet, lots of free drinks and snacks.
hidden for non-members2mo
Ummm
hidden for non-members2mo
You had me at free snacks
hidden for non-members2mo
I know! Free snacks are becoming a problem... Haha.

hidden for non-members2mo
Open on weekends?
hidden for non-members2mo
I think a few of us are headed there this afternoon. Lots of great dinner options in the area too!
hidden for non-members2mo
Sweet. I'll be there post-gym.
hidden for non-members2mo
I love airport lounges
hidden for non-members2mo
THis is perfect lol
hidden for non-members2mo
There's a shower with towels and amenities too ๐Ÿ˜Š
hidden for non-members2mo
And places for a standing desk setup?
hidden for non-members2mo
Open weekends and open late, til 10pm
hidden for non-members2mo

hidden for non-members2mo
Man
hidden for non-members2mo
Found my new hub
hidden for non-members2mo
They're going to hate me
hidden for non-members2mo
why you say that?
hidden for non-members2mo
I take full advantage of "free snacks"
hidden for non-members2mo
No shame
hidden for non-members2mo
no wonder you need to go to the gym
hidden for non-members2mo
hidden for non-members2mo
60 euros a month is insanely cheap
hidden for non-members2mo
Wonder if I can get locked in at that price
hidden for non-members2mo
I expect they're waiting for things to pick up and then the prices will go up.
hidden for non-members2mo
Great website copy too
hidden for non-members2mo
I have this business idea to set up spaces near WeWork offices but with entertainment services only, like, gaming, pool and foosball tables, mini-cinema, massage, nap-pods, etc.
hidden for non-members2mo
call it WeDon'tWork?
hidden for non-members2mo
lol
hidden for non-members2mo
WePlay
hidden for non-members2mo
nah, WePlay is the BDSM dungeon underneath
hidden for non-members2mo
or call that SubSpace?
hidden for non-members2mo
once a few places open get subsidized by WeWork
hidden for non-members2mo
Make it an OpenBSD dungeon and I'm in!
hidden for non-members2mo
This is place looks awesome! Will definitely be there everyday next week.
hidden for non-members2mo
I'll be there too
hidden for non-members2mo
Totally my kind of vibe
hidden for non-members2mo
Mostly the free snacks
hidden for non-members2mo
Been here since this morning. No snacks to be found.

hidden for non-members2mo
ARound 50/60
hidden for non-members2mo
60/20
hidden for non-members2mo
Still good. May go there just a day or two now despite the snacks and do some cafes as well. Any you recommend?
hidden for non-members2mo
A lot of people go to Lumen or Madal
hidden for non-members2mo
For cafes
hidden for non-members2mo
I like working at Ebreszto
hidden for non-members2mo
But it's for work, not socializing; really small.
hidden for non-members2mo
hidden for non-members2mo
Awesome thank you! If you are working out of one this week and like to meet up definitely let me know. Also need to try all the Hungarian grub I can!
hidden for non-members2mo
For sure dude, when do you get in?
hidden for non-members2mo
I've been working out of Kaptar which is great. I also checked out Magvito which was very good except for the internet dropping for about 30 min. Magvito is more like a coworking than a coffee shop which is interesting. Also super cheap. I paid 1,100 for an Americano and a piece of cake.
hidden for non-members2mo
sounds expensive, but then again I'm not used to today's prices
hidden for non-members2mo
haven't lived in Bp for 10 years
hidden for non-members2mo
$3.6 USD for a coffee and piece of cake is expensive?
hidden for non-members2mo
any idea what the average wage is in H?
hidden for non-members2mo
and what disposable income percentage is?
hidden for non-members2mo
What does the average wage in H have to do with it? I'm not earning a Hungarian wage. I'm a digital nomad and compare prices to other available locations. The price is great for the value compared to places like Greece, Barcelona, etc.
hidden for non-members2mo
well I know that
hidden for non-members2mo
but while you see it as cheap, you might be getting foreigners' prices
hidden for non-members2mo
That's a valid point but your first comment was that $3.6 for a coffee and piece of cake sounded expensive to you.
hidden for non-members2mo
nah, actually I'm still not sure if it is or not
hidden for non-members2mo
Where are you based currently?
hidden for non-members2mo
London, and I do realise I paid ยฃ6.60 for a sandwich and a small cuppa for breakfast
hidden for non-members2mo
then again I make many times over what I made in H
hidden for non-members2mo
lqxqriuzm Get in late tonight
hidden for non-members2mo
Can someone explain what's up with Hungarians only showing dubbed movies and the occasional subtitled? If I were a director, I would never allow my movies to be dubbed in major cities where everyone is literate.
hidden for non-members2mo
It's awful
hidden for non-members2mo
mxnheevwy I think jzrycpxvrldcofn or someone recently tweeted an image on which countries choose which strategy for movies, I guess it's just something they choose to do (Dub with one/two people, rather than just give subtitles)
hidden for non-members2mo
Also I guess it's not director's choice, it's the publisher and the only thing they care about is money so they don't care if you dub/sub
hidden for non-members2mo
Yeah, it would be the studio. It's just really sad.
hidden for non-members2mo
I'm from the country where you are lucky if they decide to use two people to dub a movie, usually it's a single guy with a monotone voice who dubs every characters (both males and females), and people get surprised that I choose to watch/read stuff in English
hidden for non-members2mo
Why even watch? Just print the subtitles and read lol. How atrocious.
hidden for non-members2mo
Because that is that TV provides so you "don't have" other options, also people usually don't like reading (subtitles or books)
hidden for non-members2mo
I'm being facetious. It just infuriates me for the creatives behind the films.
hidden for non-members2mo
I saw Joker here in Budapest last night (English with Magyar subtitles). And during the scenes where it shows his notebook or writing of any kind on paper, they actually filmed new scenes to show Hungarian instead. It was surreal.
hidden for non-members2mo
I had no idea they did that.
hidden for non-members2mo
So I also have no idea what it said.
hidden for non-members2mo
zmbtbiyiog yeah so it has something to do with population size and budget, for ex Netherlands is too small of a population to dub movies (esp in the past) so they didn't/don't, so then the culture became accepting of subtitles and that's the default now
hidden for non-members2mo
Germany is 5x as big as NL so they had the pop. size to dub and get ROI on their investments
hidden for non-members2mo
i think eastern europe esp didn't have much money at all in the past so most of them just subtitle
hidden for non-members2mo
one of the explanations
hidden for non-members2mo
sctqapybv ah yes, they do same with most Pixar movies, for ex they change text to Korean etc. and change the vegetables kids hate per country
hidden for non-members2mo
It's so pain in Russia. I love movies so I watched only in original. Even in Moscow we have only 2-3 movie theatres with original language. Also all streaming services often have only one Russian dub track, even iTunes sometimes.
hidden for non-members1mo
Interesting. I'm curious people who have grown up on dubbed movies, once they see originals with subtitles, what's their response?
hidden for non-members1mo
Need a somewhat quiter place today as I have some phone calls. Any cafes or co-working spaces people would recommend (or would Madal work for this)? Don't mind some background noise but most starbucks, cafes, and others are wayyy too loud.
hidden for non-members1mo
A bit too loud for that. Hmmmm.
hidden for non-members1mo
Ended up at Airspace. There's like 2 people here and quiet. Perfect for a phone call style day.
hidden for non-members1mo
Send snack photos. I'm hoping my experience was a fluke.
hidden for non-members1mo
I mean, you went on a sunday. hard to grade a work place over the weekend
hidden for non-members1mo
It's made for weekends. It's supposed to be a hybrid lounge/co-working space.
hidden for non-members1mo
So, always available.
hidden for non-members1mo
I WAS NOT GIVEN SNACKS
hidden for non-members1mo
Hi all, sorry to break the Airspace convo :wink:This is probably a long shot but does anyone have (good/bad) experiences with hospitals or clinics here that they want to share? I've been having pains for four days of what seems to be some sort of infection... So it's quite time to see a doctor. Thanks!
hidden for non-members1mo
Go to Mom Park
hidden for non-members1mo
FirstMed is really good! And everyone speaks English.
hidden for non-members1mo
Great, that looks quite good indeed! Thanks for endorsing fahavilqzatjpel
hidden for non-members1mo
I'll send a picture soon! There was pretzels today and that's all I've eaten today.
hidden for non-members1mo
Went with the Green Tea to stay away from the coffee as recommended
hidden for non-members1mo
Plus there has only been 5 other people here all day (I've been here from 11 am til now). And all left the moment I started talking on the phone so I've had a co-working space to myself since 6:30 PM.

Very pleased with it if you're just looking to grind and work. If you're looking for good snacks, coffee, or people. Probably mediocre.
hidden for non-members1mo
Not pictured the pretzels, what I think are dates, and they ran out of granola (or never had any idk)
hidden for non-members1mo
Feel better!
hidden for non-members1mo
Thanks zsdtanerdtrxr !
hidden for non-members1mo
It was like Alright, time to rewatch everything...
hidden for non-members1mo
Were you that loud American talking on the phone in an open office? #shame
hidden for non-members1mo
Hungarians are a quiet people
hidden for non-members1mo
In fact I was. ๐Ÿ˜” Everyone had large headphones in so I didn't feel too bad. Luckily my only day with phone calls.
hidden for non-members1mo
It's a good question, I always wonder why Americans are talking loudly? Don't mean to offend anybody, just curios.
hidden for non-members1mo
I wouldn't say all do - I'm just definitely part of that stereotype and I'll admit that.

For me, I'm passionate and love what I do so when I talk with people about it, I end up getting louder and louder as I get more excited. So even though I start out quiet, I can slowly get louder without me realizing it.
hidden for non-members1mo
Society wise, I believe it has to do with in the USA, you're taught at a young age the more assertive/demanding you are the more likely to get what you desire. People only hear the loudest voice. So if you want to heard, stick out your chest and get loud.
hidden for non-members1mo
America is a young nation made up of immigrants. Unless you're Native American/Indian, you're an immigrant. We are not high class. Unless you grew up wealthy and your parents grew up wealthy, you're nouveau riche. You were not raised in higher class etiquette to be polite and dignified and listen more than speak.

Just theorising of course as I don't know the cause, but I'd wager it's related to the above and our fierce individualism and need for self-expression.

Also, the typical American tourist isn't higher class, so the above fits too.

But i will say Italians are just as loud from my limited travel experience. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
hidden for non-members1mo
I avoid Americans as much as possible. ๐Ÿ˜‡
hidden for non-members1mo
Disclaimer am American
hidden for non-members1mo
I'll second what you said with another disclaimer (also American).

But I avoid the stereotypical American that you see abroad. The "my way of the highway" or as mentioned typical American tourist.

But all professionals, expats, DNs, or well traveled folks that I've met in Europe that are American have all been great.
hidden for non-members1mo
Agreed about the DNs I've met (minus 2).
hidden for non-members1mo
But they were life coaches and "how to be an entrepreneur" types, so . . .
hidden for non-members1mo
Butโ€ฆ butโ€ฆ. for just 3 easy payments of $779 you could be traveling the world with a business you don't have to work on!
hidden for non-members1mo
Thank! It was interesting to hear that from Americans about loudness, thanks to honest answers! About avoiding tourists from your own country II feel you. Russians are the worst ๐Ÿ˜„
hidden for non-members1mo
Hahaha.
hidden for non-members1mo
Heyy I've got a few hours in Budapest this afternoon - on the bus from Kosice now and flying to Spain later. Does anyone know of any good cafes to work from near Nepliget bus station please?
hidden for non-members1mo
>America is a young nation made up of immigrants. Unless you're Native American/Indian, you're an immigrant. We are not high class. Unless you grew up wealthy and your parents grew up wealthy, you're nouveau riche. You were not raised in higher class etiquette to be polite and dignified and listen more than speak.

I found this convo very interesting. I am originally from Turkey and moved the USA around 2010. My partner is American and grew up in Germany. She always complain about how loud I am and she keeps telling me "you became American" ๐Ÿ˜

Americans speaking loudly in public spaces?! Unheard of ๐Ÿ‘€
hidden for non-members1mo
Budapest is nice and good choice, but until spring will probably be quite a bit cold, I would say even during summer on bad days it's as cold as in Autumn (might be hard if you like hot weather and used to Bangkok temperatures)
hidden for non-members1mo
I have been here 6 months and absolutely love it.
hidden for non-members1mo
qttyztuks what about it makes it so attractive to you? I only spent 10 days there or so but nothing really caught my eye. Everyone always speaks so highly about it so im wondering what I missed.
hidden for non-members1mo
I'm sure I would be able to describe why I like staying in some places, just some kind of inner feeling of "I like it here" ๐Ÿ˜„ Looking forward to next 2 months in Budapest starting tomorrow
hidden for non-members1mo
Ah ok thanks for the info, i actually really like cool weather and can tolerate cold weather within reason. Thanks for the info though ugewyqenma klgrknxvo
hidden for non-members1mo
Budapest is the most liveable European city I've been to, coming from an American perspective. It's quiet and calm yet a huge city; cheap yet quality food and goods; easy to travel both within the city and outside of the country with excellent transport; not full of American tourists; gorgeous architecture with the Danube running through; no skyscrapers to destroy the old world feel; very active classical arts culture; always a festival every weekend; actual seasons.
hidden for non-members1mo
mnbbiaoje how long are you planning on staying still?
hidden for non-members1mo
It will be home base for the next year.

+1 for Budapest. The most beautiful *and consistent* architecture I've encountered so far (but haven't seen much of Europe yet). Beautiful buildings make me happy. Winters and gray skies, less so, hence making a move again after 1.5 months here, with plans to come back.

My biggest disappointment for Budapest, is accommodation. I've been spoiled, living in Asia most of the last 17 yrs. Partly, I can see where the AirBnB hate comes from. Overpriced, low-quality (soundproofing doesn't seem to be a thing here) and from what I've heard from locals, way overpriced compared to local wages. My browsings of hotels and the one 4-star(?) I stayed in also disappointed.

That gripe out of the way, it's amazingly walkable and again the architecture is amazing. Walk an hr out of the city and it gets a bit sketchy in neighborhoods (just saw a man hanging out a window shooing a homeless guy from his stoop with a broom on tonight's stroll!). Public urination in city center seems a bit higher than New York City (I start to feel I can tell which city I'm in by the distinct aromas now ๐Ÿ˜› Better than fermented tofu in China, anyway!).

I've only been outside to Szentendre and Eger, both look fairly chill.

For comfortable accommodations, Chiang Mai gives way more for the price. But besides scatterings of temples, it's nowhere near as pretty as Budapest.

Oh, and if you like going out / bars, you'll be in heaven in Budapest. Just, wow!

Back to Asia for me next weekend (Camiguin, Philippines, as my partner is Filipina), then planning on campervanning around Australia (my default/passport country) and probably buy a little base cabin somewhere there.

My feels after last 2 months in SWE/NOR/HUN:

- spend extra and go to Scandinavia/Switzerland for quality of life, good infrastructure and least ridiculous governments.
- experience as many different cities around the world as possible for a week or more
hidden for non-members1mo
^ note I did some housesitting for lfkwrmmcw and their apartment is really nice! Not sure of the price, but a long-term place, which should have much better prices than the equivalent on AirBnB
hidden for non-members1mo
bacdzoqr thanks for the honest review. It's good to hear the perspective of someone new to Europe but who has experience in Asia.

Anyone who speaks Hungarian, I will pay to call the local police station to check on the status of my stolen laptop. They refuse to speak to me in English and my lawyer is on vacation this week. Just DM me. ๐Ÿ˜›
hidden for non-members1mo
I'd agree with all above. Haven't been to Asia yet but coming from other European countries and USA, Budapest by far is my favorite city due to the people, architecture, walkability, affordability, and experiences available (things to do). If it wasn't for it getting cold (and my visa running low) I'd live there the majority of the year in a heart beat.

If you're debating going, go! It's amazing.

hidden for non-members17d
Ruin bars! ๐Ÿ˜„

Especially Szimpla, Itโ€™s overcrowded for sure, but still Iโ€™, really enjoying visit it
hidden for non-members17d
Ok, thanks! Added to my map ๐Ÿ˜„
hidden for non-members17d
The baths are supposed to be great; I havenโ€™t been to them yet.
hidden for non-members17d
I love the baths! I miss them terrible. Check out Lukacs.
hidden for non-members17d
Oh yeah for sure! THe baths is like default activity. I must recommend โ€œPalatinusโ€ and โ€œSzรฉchenyiโ€. The first one cheaper and better imo. The second one just more legendary, but overcrowded as well
hidden for non-members17d
The first one mostly on big pools on the open air. The second one mostly inside baths
hidden for non-members17d
and in the second one much more saunas
hidden for non-members17d
I hurt my neck at the gym . . . this could be a good remedy.
hidden for non-members17d
Which is best for relaxation, less tourists, and more heat?
hidden for non-members17d
haha
hidden for non-members17d
Itโ€™s hard to say, more heat in the second one, but they are turisty
hidden for non-members17d
But I still enjoyed them, I spend the day there after Sziget festival
hidden for non-members17d
It was great to get rid of hangover and all dust
hidden for non-members17d
It was August, I think now itโ€™s much better
hidden for non-members17d
You just pay for a โ€œdayโ€ or something and go to anything thatโ€™s open?
hidden for non-members17d
Yep
hidden for non-members17d
Sweet
hidden for non-members17d
Is it nude? Bathing suit? Co-ed? Wondering what I should wear
hidden for non-members17d
Bath suite yeah
hidden for non-members17d
Everybody together yes
hidden for non-members17d
In the Szรฉchenyi there is also a big pool outside, I like the vortex inside the part of the pool. You just go in it and it is spinning you around
hidden for non-members17d
But in the Palatinus they have slides. Two of them pretty scary and fun
hidden for non-members17d
Itโ€™s what they have outside of the standart activity baths + saunas
hidden for non-members17d
There are much more baths in Budapest I just only been in these two
hidden for non-members17d
Ah ok
hidden for non-members17d
Sweet
hidden for non-members17d
At Lukacs they have bubble beds. BUBBLE BEDS.
hidden for non-members17d
. . . what is a bubble bed?!?!
hidden for non-members17d
It's like a tiled lounger that they push air bubbles through to create and air massage
hidden for non-members17d
Lukacs is mostly locals and very chill -
hidden for non-members17d
BTW all the baths are very organized and completely confusing your first time visiting.

hidden for non-members17d

hidden for non-members17d
these are generally really big places, they do handle crowds pretty well
hidden for non-members17d
wow bubble bed sounds amazing
hidden for non-members17d
Are you looking at going to Lukacs then?
hidden for non-members17d
Me? Yeah
hidden for non-members17d
Itโ€™s right across the bridge from me
hidden for non-members17d
ah yeah. while I haven't been in years, it is one of my favourites
hidden for non-members17d
Sweeeeet
hidden for non-members17d
I will say, looking at the hours here, I suspect google maps is getting these way wrong. The busy hours are basically 9-5 ๐Ÿค”
hidden for non-members17d
I'm thinking, considering it's rimmed in a bit by offices, a hospital, and other places, their location detection is way off here
hidden for non-members17d
I canโ€™t imagine there are so many people there at 10am on a Tuesday . . . in November. But Iโ€™ll go post gym later and inspect.
hidden for non-members17d
It is also very local as rkjquainicxbduq mentioned, so don't expect a lot of tourists anyway. It could be accurate, but "super busy" for them isn't really a huge crowd
hidden for non-members17d
Then you are close to Veli Bej as well - also very nice. We'd always go Nagyi Kifล‘zdรฉje for lunch after.
hidden for non-members17d
I'm going to start looking at flights to Budapest, I can feel it.

mjpeupikepnvei Was reading this one yesterday >https://www.offbeatbudapest.com/budapest-city-guide/best-thermal-baths/> (while looking at the prices even found that in some of them you can rent a swimming suit ๐Ÿ˜„ ) It seems Rudas is the only one which is still nude, open the website and it shows acceptable gear for it
hidden for non-members17d
Thanks for the suggestions! ๐Ÿ˜Š
hidden for non-members17d
I'll think about the baths, never been to one and is definitely out of my comfort zone ๐Ÿ˜‹

๐Ÿ˜› It's just a simple one in my airbnb, usually I prefer showers, but after a long day traveling tried it and it's nice way to cool down for the day, the only issue is that most places with bath I stayed at doesn't have an unlimited supply of hot water so you often end up with luke warm bath ๐Ÿ˜ž
hidden for non-members16d
My issue is I never fit into the bathtubs comfortably. Otherwise, they're quite nice.
hidden for non-members16d
Me neither, so it's usually a choice which part of your body (upper/lower) will be submersed ๐Ÿ˜•
hidden for non-members16d
The curse of being tall - nothing is made to be comfortable for you
hidden for non-members16d

hidden for non-members16d
I went to Rudas. Did not know nude was acceptable but can guarantee there wasnโ€™t any nude people there.
hidden for non-members16d
What really?! I was at Rudas a few weeks ago and not a single nude person there.
hidden for non-members16d
agrhcbwrmgcbka does have a great tub (thanks!). Love the faucet design!

My AirBnB one at the time had enough space for me to hang my calves out the bottom ๐Ÿ˜›

kiruuaydcqj Senor says hello!
hidden for non-members16d
I once had such a small bath tub that even taking a shower was complicated, like it would be big enough to stand in it, but half of it is raised and everything is at the angles, so it takes so much effort to keep avoiding slipping and splitting your head open facepalm
hidden for non-members16d

NetPincer worked well for me, with 0 Magyar skills. Address choosing can be a bit tricky in areas, where you don't know which sub-region your place is in, but additional notes field worked helped.
hidden for non-members15d
the middle 2 digits of your post code gives you the district number
hidden for non-members15d
Cool. My issue was when staying at Danubius Gellert, it gave me sub-selections of what I imagine was like "port side, blah street", etc. So just fudged it and told them the hotel name in comment
hidden for non-members15d
whaaaat, I did not realize this
hidden for non-members15d
haha
hidden for non-members15d
Yes, the form is a bit confusing,
hidden for non-members13d
Iโ€™ve seen today lots of old furniture and garbage being carried out from buildings and left on the sidewalk, do you know what this is about? Like do they have a day to throw old furniture?
hidden for non-members13d
Itโ€™s national trash day. Anything you need to get rid of that doesnโ€™t fit into a normal trash container, you can take out to the street and the city will pick it up.
hidden for non-members13d
I made up the national trash day part.
hidden for non-members13d
But thatโ€™s what it is.
hidden for non-members13d
yes happens twice a year and each organised by the district council
hidden for non-members13d
it's only over a day so we don't keep trash on the streets for too long
hidden for non-members13d
it's a genius way for redistributing goods
hidden for non-members13d
field day for scrap metal collectors and artists who need materials

Went to Rudas bath today, I would say I prefered the wellness section (especially the jumping into 42C pool for minute and going to 12C pool for 10 seconds rinse and repeat) way more than the steam baths
hidden for non-members11d
Is it nude or bathing suit? Locals or tourists or both?
hidden for non-members11d
dcvlqpndyulhix Steam baths you can go with the apron or bathing suit, seems mostly like local wrinkled sausages with some tourists mingled in. Personally I found them loud, cramped and unclean (not that it's unclean in hygienic sense but more like some damp dungeon room).
Wellness part is mixed and you need to have to be with bathing suit, lots of different pools (for big swimming pool you need swimming cap), and lots of saunas (I liked the gas chamber sauna), and think they even have a salt room (which would have been good to combat against sickness and stuff, but found it only when I was about to leave).
hidden for non-members11d
. . . gas chamber sauna?
hidden for non-members11d
Can't remember the name, but think would translate something similar to it. It's like very wet, very hot, and you hear air blowing out, lots of fun but could not stay long (you have a 12C pool nearby to cool off)
hidden for non-members11d
I guess it's called "Steam room" at 48C >https://roundme.com/embed/YaA7dJIC9ayDdh4baREI>
hidden for non-members11d
One strange thing is that the pool is visible fully from the street ๐Ÿ˜„

hidden for non-members9d
โ˜๏ธ this is for magyar telekom btw, not all carriers
hidden for non-members9d
you have to activate that? ok

Ugh, Itโ€™s the second time I want to buy something online in Hungary and they ask me for a phone number and wonโ€™t accept my Spanish phone number ๐Ÿ˜ก
hidden for non-members6d
I have that same issue. It's so unnecessary.
hidden for non-members15h
Has anyone been able to solve the phone number issue? It seems to be such a common barrier. I bought some Twilio numbers which are great (requires some technical work) but they ask for proof of identity in each country.
hidden for non-members14h
the solution is to get a local sim, no?
hidden for non-members14h
I ordered something in edigital, and I think I just made up some Romanian number, that seemed to be accepted, and set the delivery to collect on a nearby shop. But yeah, having a local sim seems to be the solution ๐Ÿ˜‚
hidden for non-members14h
For ex, I have bank accounts and other government-related stuff in 4 different countries. It's painful that a lot of them require 2FA via SMS to a local number. I just wonder if there's something more convenient than Twilio.
hidden for non-members8h
ecyuwshdolh I use Google Voice for US number, but I know itโ€™s a pain in other places. Having a local sim card is not really an option since when leaving the place for an extended period of time the number is getting lost. What about Skype number, probably about the same as Twilio?
hidden for non-members8h
tzvbimbxsvz do you have a phone that supports eSIMs?
hidden for non-members8h
prepaid sims should cost around $20 and last a few months
hidden for non-members7h
Actually might be more like a year, I got vodafone and in SMSes it spams that I can use it until 2020-10-18
hidden for non-members4h
llsljooal Skype numbers don't receive SMS. Only US ones.
<@U3GJAE40N> Yes, I use a Pixel 4 which supports eSIMs, but only a few countries have providers that support it.
hidden for non-members3h
Check out airalo
hidden for non-members3h
I have a Pixel 3XL. Downloaded some eSIM's from there and it seems pretty good
hidden for non-members2h
Are those prices for real? Not a trap? Haha
hidden for non-members2h
I'm using it now. It's great!
hidden for non-members2h
And they support two-way SMS (send and receive)?
hidden for non-members2h
They are just data sims
hidden for non-members2h
My setup is (actually in the process of setting it up now)
hidden for non-members2h
Phone number I've had forever - ported to Google Voice
Random phone number from Google Fi for $20/mo
Have Google Voice redirect calls to Google Fi
Use eSIM internationally for data
hidden for non-members2h
Since you have a Pixel 4, you can keep both SIM's active it once, which is really nice. On my pixel 3, I can only have one sim active at a time, so I won't be able to receive incoming calls while on the data SIM, but I will get the Google Voice "missed call" notification and will call the person back. SMS works both ways on data (I think)
hidden for non-members2h
Since my setup involves some other non-US countries, I think I'll have to stick to Twilio for SMS. Good thing as well is that I can program it however I want and I don't need to worry about losing a SIM card. But I'll definitely take a further look into Airalo for data, tks ๐Ÿ™‚
hidden for non-members2h
Bad side is that I have to pay a monthly fee for each phone number. That's still much cheaper than losing my time calling banks and government offices.
