Anyone know how I can get around shitty wifi at my airbnb?
๐Ÿ›ฌ gaxdfzxcdy just arrived in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช Tbilisi, #georgia
You can buy unlimited Magti 4G mobile internet for 5 lari per week and just share it via your phone. The coverage should be pretty good everywhere in Tbilisi. I used it when my wifi didn't work and it was good enough.
Ok awesome. Where do they sell these? Iโ€™m assuming theyโ€™re sim cards?
gmuoaexpt you sure? I bought a 40GEL 5GB plan from Magti and it wonโ€™t let me tether internet from my iPhone
FYI
the personal hotspot option is just grayed out
On the wiki it says tethering is allowed for Magti.

Maybe just the plan you bought doesnโ€™t allow for it?
Ask owner to fix WiFi. Itโ€™s extremely unlucky to get a shitty WiFi here, it usually works really well. Especially if youโ€™re not sharing it with anyone and stay alone.
If you want to buy Magti you better go to the office (there are plenty of them). It would be best to do this on Sunday since they have amazing deals.
Regulat price is 12 lari per 5Gb
Itโ€™s in a shared place, but I mean itโ€™s fucking awful. I just tried to use it and it can barely load a webpage
Yeah itโ€™s always like this with shared places. Thatโ€™s why I stopped living in them ๐Ÿ™‚
You can go to coworking/coffee shop if you need to work
General Internet is really good in Georgia
I mean itโ€™s pretty much the equivalent of not having WiFi
You can also buy Unlimited 4g for 5 lari per week
Also Magti
Iโ€™m watching YouTube videos on 240p like Iโ€™m in the 1500s.

Thanks for the help. Iโ€™ll talk to my Airbnb lady see if thereโ€™s anything she can do otherwise Iโ€™ll go to magti
Any coworking in Tbilisi have a stable 50+ mb internet? I tried downloading a file via mobile provider, but the connection is unstable and when I loose it โ€” I have to download the file from the start. Tried to download in Terminal, but their internet was around 7-10 mb
ok good to know thanks! maybe not being able to tether is something about my plan indeed. I got it at the airport, it was 4am and I didnโ€™t want to risk not having internet to get into my airbnb man-shruggingskin-tone-2
Well it doesn't say it's Magti) Probably some "tourist" sim cards with scam prices ๐Ÿ˜„
zxkrqfch itโ€™s airport prices, man!
Never buy anything at the airport! ๐Ÿ™‚
damn the old dog got scammed ๐Ÿ˜‚ fair enough lol
whaaaat
download seems good enough
lmao
Thatโ€™s the one
Thanks! Ordered a taxi :-)
Does anyone have any tips on how to find longer term rental in Tbilisi? Something like 6-12 months ๐Ÿค”
edu10d
I've heard people using ss.ge|ss.ge for long term
Awesome, thanks rhxyp ๐Ÿ™Œ
yep, ss.ge|ss.ge is the best place, i have found there. also maybe facebook groups
Thanks UEVA2G3DH!
Just sharing my experience with Bolt last night from the airport.

Be careful as there are some scam drivers - the quoted price was GEL22 , but the driver said that GEL22 is too low , and I would have to cancel trip after a while and pay him GEL10 every km in cash.

Obviously I said no thank you, and was able to find a honest driver after a while.
wtf. Never had that!
Never had this, been using Bolt for 2 months. You mean you picked โ€œCashโ€ as payment option? I didnโ€™t even know you can pay by cash in Bolt ๐Ÿ˜„
Anyway it doesnโ€™t do anything with Bolt, just bad driver. I hope you reported him.
Yeah weird stuff , it was 4 in the morning and being my first time here I thought all the cab drivers would be doing the same , but thank God not.
Yeah of course Boltโ€™s very good, it was my 1st cab experience in Tbilisi.
And unfortunately I couldnโ€™t find a way to report him after I cancelled the trip.
Hello all, just arrived to Tbilisi , and was wondering whether anyone would be up for a drink today or anytime this week ? Let me know, thanks.
oh too bad. I hope your next trips will be good ๐Ÿ™‚
๐Ÿ›ฌ dzxkrktyuhwxxe just arrived in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช Tbilisi, #georgia
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Should have just googled this. Seems that itโ€™s completely safe.
Yes, itโ€™s safe. Been driving it for 3 months now :)
will have time next week, DM me
How is the lockdown?
What lockdown? ๐Ÿ˜„
We never had one
Yes, masks are mandatory outside and inside
Also, no more than 6 people gatherings
We usually just book two tables in restaurants, because they donโ€™t allow to shift tables together.
Hello all, is anyone a content creator on YouTube ? Iโ€™m looking for a quick setup with a green screen and lights, and would like to ask whether anyone has any recommendations for a place here In Tbilisi where I could purchase those ?
Thanks a lot
Usually everything related to electronics and similar are 2x priced here so I am trying to grab everything while I am outside of Georgia.
Iโ€™ve seen some store with lights on Chavchavadze street but donโ€™t remember the exact location.
For greenscreen worth considering mixing your own paint and creating a wall
Otherwise I saw a chair-mounted one on mymarket if youโ€™re just doing sit-down stuff
Best is to import though, I have elgato key lights on the way via usa2georgia
Thanks for all the replies.

Does it take long to receive your items with USA2Georgia ? I might as well wait a bit if itโ€™s overpriced here.
If itโ€™s under 300gel, generally a week or 2 (300gel is the cutoff for 18% import tax, and sometimes it takes a bit longer for customs to process)
Alright thanks a lot, I will rather wait then.
Would love to know your feedback of the Elgato lights. I previously had Lume Cube and was not very satisfied with the result.
Oh I had no idea they where mandatory outside. I havenโ€™t been wearing one outside and no ones said anything to me.
Also, I see loads of people not wearing them outside, but I think I see more with them
Not really buying them for the spec tbh, more for integration into the stream deck workflow, and of course aesthetics
Definitely come at a premium
I havenโ€™t been wearing one outside (didnโ€™t know it was mandatory until 5 minutes ago) and nothings happen. I also see other people not wearing them.
A lot of people donโ€™t care ๐Ÿ™‚
You could be fined on 20GEL which is too small amount of money for people to care
I usually wear them in crowds and do not wear where Iโ€™m walking alone and there are no people around.
Thanks guys! I've been doing the same
Anyone know any good running routes around the tbilisi zoo ?
Or if thereโ€™s an outdoor track or something?
Try Central Park (Hippodrome). The hill on its south side was quite nice.
Thereโ€™s a sports university in Vake that has an outdoor track
Has anyone set themselves up as an individual entrepreneur _(or, โ€˜small business statusโ€™)_ here in Georgia? Iโ€™m looking into it now, and want to discover all of the biggest drawbacks of it
I set up an LLC a few weeks ago and it was easy, too
Many people have done this. No drawbacks for me, only awesome 1% on all the income. But you need to be more specific about your case.
Hi there! I just arrived in Tbilisi on Saturday. I'm Nick. I publish books on Amazon and trade crypto. I have an Airbnb near Freedom Square for a month but I think I'm going to stay until December. I also got setup at Impact Hub for a month but will consider other options in October.

I'm very enthusiastic about traveling, improv, writing, food, and going to the gym. I'm looking forward to making some friends. :)
Cheers uzpkwq insluiha - I had a consultation with ExpatHub yesterday. It all sounds positive. I wanted to try and get some 2nd opinions on my circumstance; can you recommend any other firms here in Tbilisi?
I did all by myself. Itโ€™s so easy so I didnโ€™t see the reasons to hire anyone.
My case is very simple, I work as freelancer and also have some side project income. So itโ€™s just 1. get money on bank account 2. send declaration 3. pay taxes for me.
But each case is different. If you have some complications I guess ExpatHub is the best one that Iโ€™ve heard of.
Cool, thatโ€™s good to know gzqyakni - If itโ€™s that easy, I might consider doing this by myself too ๐Ÿ™‚
Welcome to Tbilisi. You should join the crypto Meetup on Wednesday at Lokal, the co working space :)
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Hello, Iโ€™m looking for recommendations for an English speaking doctor (I mean GP) here in Tbilisi.
And if you already know their fees, please also share them.
Thanks
Doesn't seem to make much sense that Georgia is on the red list for the UK ๐Ÿค”
Are apartment lease contracts here valid in English? I'd like to get my hands on a template of one. I need to prove that I've moved to Georgia to cancel my gym membership in American. ๐Ÿ™„
jannik26min
Crazy. The Gym requires such proof? I was able to terminate all my contracts (Electricity, Gym, Internet, ...) via special termination right with the combination of 3 documents Plane tickets, confirmation of the health insurance abroad (including info on the duration of the stay) and a specially drafted letter from my own company in which I sent myself abroad, so to speak. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Maybe this will help and is easier to organize?
If there was another way, I wouldโ€™ve done it. A lease is the only way. I didnโ€™t say it had to be real ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

Maybe symptomatic of American corporations having the same rights as individuals. Idk
guar476min
My lease is in English and Russian (even no Georgian). Donโ€™t have a template though.

I was always shocked how hard it is to cancel subscriptions in US (Cable, Gym)
guar475min
In my country itโ€™s just one click online ๐Ÿ˜„
