I'm not aware of a go-to place. In general, islands are not good for internet. Currently on Crete and it's working ok. I had some friends who were just in Paros and said it was fine there, but I was on Paros 2 years ago and had a lot of challenges. I imagine the upper tier islands will be better in general - Crete, Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini, just because $$$.
I'm interested in this too, I know Pathos, Cyprus is popular but not Greece obv
is it at all possible to work solely on 4g in greece? are there good unlimited (or very large) data plans that one as a tourist can get? is the speed good and the stability reliable? i don't need huge speeds, 30 mbps will do for most days
i hate having to depend on (often very bad) wifi networks
Also whatโ€™s the weather like in the islands in late December / January?
One of my friends got an unlimited 30 day sim, I think it was like 60 euro, I don't remember what company. But yes, the data services seem pretty reliable.
Can vouch for Naxos. Just watch out for freezers.
Freezers?
Long story
๐Ÿ‘‚
tJumping in the conversation... As I'm considering Thessaloniki as an option for the winter. It seems quite international with things going on, but I know that depending on the season things can change dramatically. Anyone been there in winter? Would you recommend it?
Iโ€™m currently just on the other side of the border in Ksamil Albania and the wifi is absolutely shit, I have an important interview google meet on Friday night that requires peer programming so Iโ€™m trying to figure out whether crossing the boarder into Greece is a good idea. I could get to Ioannina relatively easily by bud

Anyone have any experience there?
I don't, but be aware that you need a pcr test to enter greece at land crossings, even if you're vaccinated.
๐Ÿ›ฌ gjxnbkhu just arrived in ๐Ÿ› Athens, #greece
Our latest research says PCR test with 72 hour validity or antigen test with 48 hour validity
Does anyone know if the digital nomad visa is live yet for Greece? I read about it online but canโ€™t see a clear application process.
not yet ๐Ÿ™ƒ
Anyone who knows any place in Crete near Chania where I can go Bouldering / climbing? Preferably a bouldering gym
Hey everyone, I'll be flying to Athens next Wednesday. Anyone knows an affordable coworking space where I can pay by day?
this one, although personally I have never been thecube.gr/
I am sitting in The Cube right now. It is a pretty good spot, 15 EUR for a day pass.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
enzo21d
I don't know about any gyms, but if you like bouldering you should definitely check out Seitan Limania beach. It's right between two rocky cliffs that are perfect for climbing, and there's plenty of pretty high spots to jump into the water ( it's very deep, so it's safe). I've seen a few greek guys practicing diving from around 12m high there.

Just note that, as far as I know, you can only get there by car. It's around a 15 min drive from the airport. It can also get pretty crowded since the beach itself is pretty small. Nonetheless, to me it's the most fun beach on this side of Crete.

hey hey! I am a bit in a rush to find a nice place to stay tomorrow. Do you guys know a nice coliving in crete? Is there a nomad community?
anyone stayed in greekescape-co ? It seems to be cool but also quite expensive + not much activity on insta
Or is anyone in the calergi coliving?
In the works ๐Ÿ™‚
Hey hey! Greek Escape is only accepting individuals from November but the villa is absolutely stunning!

Calergi is off the beaten path, so only groups like WiFi Tribe is staying there.
really good to know, thank you!
Coming to Greece in a few days, anyone know what to expect for wifi quality/speed in Cycladic islands?
Or do people just tether to mobile?
Also looking for a tech repair shop in Athens, my laptop has two fans and one of them died (I think due to hair in the fan) and looking to get it serviced
I think it depends on the island. I never had issues on Crete or Naxos. But Paros, Santorini, Milos were slower and less stable. I ended up getting a mobile wifi setup as my airbnbs werenโ€™t always stable for video calls.
plkdwtjbzpymo interesting, did you try any cafes in case they might have more stable wifi?
Cafes were the worst in Paros when I was there a few years ago
interesting, good to know, what about mobile speed? in Albania I found tethering to my phone to be more stable than the wifi in my accomodation msot of the time
(obviously greece being EU is usually more modern than Albania but trying to account for the "it's an island factor"
Yes, I used mobile data for all my calls.
Which I'm currently doing now in Crete as well. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
any recommendations on mobile sim cards? been generally using vodafone in eastern europe
think my albania one will work with roaming but it will get cut off on the 9th next week
Cosmote seems to be the gold standard here.
thanks for the info ๐Ÿ™
Anytime
sbfaqtpcsqpj about how much did you pay for data with Cosmote? online looks like roughly 10 euro for 1-3GB and just checking if that's expected
oh there is a unlimited plan for 75 euros
I feel like it was way cheaper in stores for unlimited but I forgot what I paid.

Hello! Thinking of doing a getaway from Budapest to Mykonos #greece with my wife early October, does anyone have a recommendation of best areas to stay?
Assuming you're staying in the main town, I don't think it matters much as it's pretty small and walkable
FWIW, I found Mykonos super touristy and overpriced, I'd definitely consider some of the lovely nearby island like Syros, Naxos, Paros (all a cheap and fairly short ferry journey away)
As Greek I agree with mllrrtmxaqvklhud 100%
We just spent a few nights on Platis Gialos in the south of Mykonos. Itโ€™s a great starting point close to the airport. Weโ€™re now on Paros in a small village on the SE of the island. Night & day experiences. Much prefer Paros, but really happy to experience them both.
what would you say is the most authentic, less touristy of the greek islands? also one that is south enough to enjoy reasonably good weather in jan / feb
is it possible for EU tourists to get an unlimited data card with cosmote?
I think my experience of them wasn't something that can transfer
I was on them this time last year, when there was absolutely barely any tourism
But enough locals were visiting, that places weren't complete ghost towns
any place in particular that you would recommend?
A lot of the islands will be completely closed, no restaurants open etc. I would go to Crete personally, because itโ€™s bigger, lots to do, and operates year-round.
closed due to winter or pandemics?
winter. The weather in the islands gets pretty bad from October on, lots of wind and rain. Greeks generally donโ€™t work from October-May either so bars/restaurants etc will close down.
interesting, very good to know this, thanks a lot!
Yes, 12 euros each, both me and my wife got unlimited gb from cosmote
Way way cheaper than we thought, I think my wife was looking at something wrong when she said 75 euros
12 euros for a 1 month unlimited data SIM card? Thatโ€™s crazy
i know it's great, i've used like 60gb already streaming
the speed on average is between 7 and 15 mbps and something about how buildings are constructed here seems to make it so that cell signal degrades greatly indoors, to the point of moving 20 feet one way or another can drastically alter the cell signal and download speed
but outdoors it's pretty solid
i can generally do pretty much whatever i could do in Bali that had 30mbps with 15mbps
Thatโ€™s pretty poor speed, I guess it depends on the area. Where are you at?
Anyone in Nauplios or Areopoli area? I'd be working from there all this week. It'd be great to meet up with somebody ๐Ÿ™‚
Did anyone travel to Greece without being fully vaccinated recently?
Last week, A friend of mine traveled from Tenerife to Athens via Madrid stopover without being vaccinated. Just needed PCR test.
Downtown Athens
Iโ€™m in Greece for a few weeks! Hitting Milos/Santorini/Naxos/Nafplio/Athens. If you have any _unique_ recommendations for things to do in these locations Iโ€™d love to hear them ๐Ÿ˜Š
I am not vaccinated (need to wait until December when I return to Canada, not an anti-vaxxer) and just entered Greece last week via bus from Albania, they gave everyone at the land border a rapid test for free and everyone had to wait for results
Give us some hints to help you :)
What would you like to do/visit?
Hey limyhlbjzfj

Interested in beaches/water/nature/hikes/adventure activities/good (affordable) food/good activities for couples

Not interested in long bus rides, historical sites, sloppy party scenes, tourist traps, lines, crowds
Iโ€™ve already pulled stuff from โ€œTop 15 thingsโ€ type blogs so Iโ€™m looking for recommendations from personal experience that arenโ€™t common internet finds
That's a good start!
About Nafplio I'd say don't avoid the touristic part. That's the most beautiful thing you can visit IMO. And of course the Palamidi castle.
The same I could say about the islands you mentioned..

Now about Athens. I'd name some tourist traps:
Thisio But you should go for a walk around acropolis through Ag. Pavlou, Dionysiou Aeropagitou streets.
Avoid Omonia, and it's surroundings except of Syntagma square. But again just for a walk and some photos.

For hiking you should definitely hike Lykavitos mount and visit national garden
About beaches in Athens. IMO anywhere else is the sea nicer than in Athens :D
But in case you'd like to have a cocktail in a nice bay, visit Marina Flisvos or Mikrolomano. The former is more touristic of course.
You can combine both with a nice walk across the sea shore.
Yeah considering the time on the islands we probably wonโ€™t bother with beaches in Athens. Thanks for these tips! Weโ€™re staying near the acropolis so Iโ€™m noting those streets
I hope you are aware of the wind in the aegean islands in this season.
But of course that's not sth that should make you change your plans. Just take it into account and have a wonderful time!
In the meantime let me know if you'd need anything else that I could help!
Thanks! yeah I may try wind or kite surfing in Naxos considering the winds ๐Ÿ˜œ
