๐Ÿ›ฌ fdtcaguidl just arrived in ๐ŸŒ‰ Budapest, #hungary
Arriving in Budapest tomorrow! Are there any whatsapp groups or meetsup currently?
How did you get in? I thought the borders were closed ๐Ÿค”
๐Ÿ›ฌ ioszjsqdtsn just arrived in ๐ŸŒ‰ Budapest, #hungary
Have a work permit actually
Planning to visit Hungary soon, but does anyone on the ground know how difficult it is to get by without a vaccination card? I have one from the US, but from what I've read it sounds like that's not too useful and there's no way as of yet to convert to a Hungarian/EU one
Is there any info on when will Hungary reopen?
You can get in right now if you have business to do there, you just need an entry permit from a Hungarian company you do business with
No business at all - I just want to enjoy some Sopronis in Pontoon ๐Ÿ˜‚
Can a non-EU citizen (Canadian) who is currently in the EU enter Hungary right now? I'm also vaccinated.
no, unless you're coming for a euro game with a ticket in hand, but I think that's limited to a 72 hour stay
for now afaik only people from countries with which we have a bilateral agreement can enter if they are vaccinated... there is an exception for business trips but as a foreigner I'm not sure I would risk it. this should be changing soon
Iโ€™m going to travel to Budapest next week as I have a ticket for France Portugal. You made triple-check www.police.hu/en/content/information-on-general-rules-of-border-crossing as my flight schedule covers 4 days, but thatโ€™s ok for euro 2020 tickets holders
lol so this just happened
they are lifting Schengen border closures on June 24th
unless something unexpected happens
awesome! we are coworking with friends in Hungary in July - just in time!
toob1mo
Amazing!

I have my flight on July 2 and was already thinking about how to arrange this with vaccination during quarantine... ๐Ÿค™
toob1mo
I can't find any other information. Does that also mean no PCR tests required for inbound flights?

Hey all, anyone in Budapest? I'm here for a week or so - I'd love to meet some ppl to chat / eat / talk about professional stuff etc together.
Also, where in Budapest would you recommend to go and watch the euro games? โ˜บ๏ธ
Any recommendations for a Hungarian SIM card? I tried Nomad, but itโ€™s data only and I need a phone number.
bought one from Telenor, works good for the time. they asked if I need the number so it's optional in prepaid cards
gabo1mo
I think the service is generally the same across the 3 main carriers (telenor, vodafone, telekom)
I also have Telenor, I think it's a decent choice
+1 telenor, OK enough
So no vaxed US citizens allowed in Budapest right now?
No vax agreement with the US, but you can get in with no quarantine period if youโ€™re on business or if you have a negative PCR test and are attending a sporting event
Ok thank you for the information. Does going fir Dental work count as going for business.
Seems like that may count as going for business?
If the dental clinic is willing to do the paperwork to get an entry permit for you, then yeah that would probably work
youโ€™d need to ask them, probably depends how much money youโ€™re spending, alternatively you could do a place like helpers.hu|helpers.hu that specialize in visas and know the paperwork really well, but theyโ€™re gonna make you buy a big package which you probably wonโ€™t get to use
Thank you so much for the info! I contacted a Denal Clinic and they already responded letting me know that yes they could do the paperwork that would allow me entry.
They did however let me know I would need a PCR test and 2 day quarantine. They also cautioned that the town is not yet reopened so my ability to move around may be very limited. Is it still pretty closed around town?
This sounds like a different entry permit. For the business entry permit, there is no test or quarantine retirement.
I can only speak for Budapest, but here everything is open. You need a Hungarian vaccine card to get into indoor spaces though. Masks are not required outdoors and most restaurants are doing only outdoor seating because it's hot and Hungarians think AC makes you sick.
Does anyone know when restrictions will be lifted for vaccinated Americans? and can EU citizens visit (if not vaccinated)
It's all speculation at this point, these things keep getting delayed and there are a lot of government bureaucracies involved, best case scenario is July, I'm hoping for sometime this summer.
I think it's likely restrictions will be lifted in general before they are lifted for particular nationalities. Once most people are vaccinated, it's easier just to lift restrictions altogether than to do these multilateral deals.
Where would you go in Budapest to buy an electric toothbrush?
Anyone have any info on the border situation these days? I read they were opening Schengen borders, does that mean there are no checks at the land borders anymore? Any other restrictions flying from Schengen? I'm trying to get there from Portugal in the next month or so (I have an Italian passport)
Corvin - you have a few pharmacies in the mall where I've seen them before. Also there's the panasonic store across the street. Other than that, you could try Media Markt
Got a few bars to choose from around the intersection of erszebet and dob. Also champs is good!
Btw how did you get in recently? I'm trying to figure out a way soon
same here... waiting on info about that
Schengen borders are open (when passing by car/on land) without the need for quarantaine or tests, travel by airport still has the old rules in place which means that only Hungarian citizens, residents, world cup ticket holders and business travellers are allowed in by plane for now.
grfpowbrir Thanks, that's great to know! I could just go to Vienna and then take a bus then it seems like

What apps are people using to find restaurants and shops? Is it just google maps and tripadvisor or is there a local app that works better?
Great....now I just need to figure out how to get the damn EU one with my US-issued certificate. Do you guys know anything about that?
๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I'm not much of a restaurant-goer, so I'm not sure, but I'm not aware of anything. To order in, Wolt and Netpincรฉr. But yeah, for stores I just use Google Maps. (Although right now I'm staying near Westend, which has everything.) And for restaurants, just plain Google.
There is also this physical book, in Hungarian bookline.hu/product/home.action?_v=444_jo_hely_Budapesten&type=22&id=305862br />But not sure how up-to-date it is with Covid now. A lot of places have had to put up the shutters, unfortunately, but I would expect fancier places to have weathered the pandemic.
gabo29d
+1 for google maps, but if you feel like reading up a bit, check out this guide www.reddit.com/r/hungary/comments/8a8zdo/uvernazzas_unnecessarily_long_guide_to_budapest/dwwpnu2/
Has anyone found any documentation in English on the new masking requirements for Hungary? As far as I can tell, masks are all gone, but apparently there are exceptions.
it is no longer mandatory anywhere you are likely to go (medical establishments [hospitals etc.] & social institutions, probably meaning nursing homes and the like being the exceptions)
Hello. I am wondering if there are any groups / meetups in Budapest? Will be spending a couple of days there soon as part of a longer road trip and would be great to meet some new people ๐Ÿ™‚
What days are to here?
There arenโ€™t many events on Meetup, itโ€™s not that popular a site in Hungary to begin with and then a lot of the groups moved online or disbanded during the pandemic
There are a few though, thereโ€™s one today actually, DRINKS & ENGLISH - PEST (at ร‰lesztล‘/Vinopiano) meetu.ps/e/K8yqN/1Hp13/a|https://meetu.ps/e/K8yqN/1Hp13/a
There are a few meetups on Couchsurfing as well which might be a better fit for you anyway if you're just passing through
does anyone know what the updated rules are for entering hungary as a tourist? if i'm a vaccinated (non-EU) tourist entering by land, is it ok? if by air (and assuming departing from another EU country), would i specifically need the EU covid certificate to enter?
When I came two weeks ago the answer was no, you couldnโ€™t come as a tourist unless you had a ticket to the euro cup.
They just relaxed some restrictions this week so maybe thatโ€™s changed, but they are not following the EU rules in general so even if you had an EU vaccine card that might not work.
schengen checks at land borders are gone though
so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
gabo24d
so the trick is to fly in to Vienna (so in Austria you are in transit and are allowed to pass) and enter Hungary on a land border (like a bus shuttle or train), where they let you in without any further
you're still not allowed to fly in directly as non-EU, it's only about land borders
gabo24d
if you're coming from closer, surely other land borders work as well, just have to figure out if those countries let you in to pass through
Reporting back on this, about 8 people came, which is apparently the lowest itโ€™s been since it restarted
Is there wash-and-fold by the kilo in Budapest or is it pretty much all self-service laundromats?
I've never lived anywhere where I didn't have my own washer so I'm not sure
Thanks U69HFVCAD! And just to clarify, it's not necessary to be "in transit" in Austria, right? I could stay for a while in Vienna as a tourist (abiding by their immigration rules, which allows entry for tourists with proof of vaccination), and then take a train into Hungary?
gabo23d
definitely, I'm just not up to date on current Austrian regulations, if you can enter as a tourist it also works.
My point was that once you are rightly in Austria you just cross over to Hungary
Excellent. Much thanks! Will hit this channel up again maybe in September/October.
it's also a bit strange that #austria has like 72 members and 0 activity! what's up with that!?
Anybody have recommendations for a Hungarian language tutor? I was hoping to find someone who is willing to meet in person, maybe at my cowork or just in a public place somewhere. I donโ€™t learn as well through a screen.
Kudos for giving it a shot. I am a native speaker (currently not in HU), and I can tell you Hungarian is among the toughest languages to learn for non-eastern-europeans. Good luck!
kรถsรถnรถm!
I'm planning a weekend trip to Portugal. Anyone know what the restrictions are for people without an EU covid pass? I've got a US vaccine card and am happy to get PCR tests. I'm just worried about getting through the airports. I was thinking it might be better to drive to Vienna and fly from there.
It seems like Portugal is taking US vaccine cards now so I'm mostly just worried about getting back into Hungary if I fly out of BUD
gabo10d
I just did a similar trip of 10 days, came back last week.
you can do a pcr or an antigen test, both are valid to enter Portugal and to fly, but antigen is cheaper at about 30 euros

not sure about US vaccine cards and the return of Hungary as I have the Hungarian card for a non-EU accepted vaccine that allowed me to enter back (still needed an antigen for a Frankfurt layover)
gabo10d
check this link, they update super frequently
It's now possible to directly fly to Hungary with the EU Digital Certificate, right?
It says
"Fully vaccinated passengers who are allowed to enter are exempt from quarantine and presenting a negative COVID-19 test result."
It was from Finnair's travel map guide. I can't post a link about it because of the bot
thanks U0278323JSK! This matches the info I got

Hey all ๐Ÿ‘‹ slightly random (typical startup) type of question that I'd really appreciate any help with.

I've got an urgent need for a virtual office / co-working space in Hungary, or to find someone that runs a locally registered business.. Location doesn't matter, main thing is to be able to get a rent receipt as a proof of local address ASAP _(for context, one of our clients has asked us to support them with an upcoming event in Hungary, which requires us to register a local phone number to use with our SMS platform - and for this you need to show a local business address)._

I'd really appreciate if anyone could provide either...
1. Suggestions on co-working / virtual offices that could get us setup and provide a rent receipt with fast turnaround? or...
2. A business registered in Hungary, who would be willing to sign a two week services agreement that we can use their business for the temporary phone number registration
njo8d
thanks jmlcjxnenlibjq do you know what price it is per month?
