Will be in Porto or Lisbon for NYE! Looking for a unique experience, any tips?
ulchvcxvep2mo
A lot of very cool stuff in both of those places
uctdheri2mo
Will most likely be in Lisbon for NYE, let me know if anybody is doing anything fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Planning for a month in Lisbon ~ in Feb
gktioxkxzitg2mo
Hey all, looking to go to Lisbon in Feb, what does the public transportation system look like? I've been to Warsaw and Prague, and those were a breeze. Apple pay everywhere, very convinient
fhbjisfcywjy2mo
I'm looking at this area AirBNB and it feels a bit too far, wondering if this is too far
zjzib2mo
laqwxsetxkwvl the buses take you to the center in like 15-20 mins, thatโ€™s still pretty well connected. Also thereโ€™s uber, for affordable prices.
You can get a public transport card in any of the metro stations and also recharge them there, and use the balance when you travel. Pretty convenient, just keep some money on it always as outside the metro stations area itโ€™s a bit more difficult to figure how to recharge. A single ride is valid for like an hour (or 90 mins, not sure), for like 1.5 eur, includes unlimited changes within the timeframe
cafkrhfvfuxd2mo
thanks U69HFVCAD.
miuhsmyxlgrzkj1mo
This might come too late, but that area is indeed a bit out of the way. Thereโ€™s no metro connection from there nor any neighbourhood vibes.
mmvilgblgnfx1mo
Yeah, I've booked Alfama
graddhiqvqiv1mo
Thank you pyuwohmexbtrwhs
udjlgxfmvqjfgk1mo
Sound choice, Alfama is lovely and you can walk anywhere ๐Ÿ˜„
ejwyjbqt1mo
for like ~30โ‚ฌ you get a monthly pass valid on all buses, trams and metros. Just head to the carris office in alcantara (under the bridge).
jwxamphqqchx1mo
Thanks qgleirweg
fcfhjojbjtyg1mo
Seems like this one should also have that ticket goo.gl/maps/jfNWE6rxnWKpBvdB7
spjmkebfctbx1mo
Or am I wrong?
atxcc1mo
yes, the carris offices also do it
qkwgt1mo
to get the montly pass though, you need the plastic card - for which you need to apply, fill a form, pay 13 eur to have it done in 1-2 working days, then you can buy the monthly pass on it
qaqqp1mo
the paper one you can get anywhere only takes balance/ride topups. don't get the ride ones though as the balance also works to go on the train to cascais/sintra just using the same balance
btiin1mo
and you cannot have both rides and balance at the same time on the paper card
xxmrjhsdjmro1mo
Ah. Makes sense
ptjvxnaztiqj1mo
Anyone in Lisbon with pets/cats who could help / help find someone to look after our cat for a week?
ygewousajhyv1mo
Basically, every other day come and feed and pet :)
ygrpdxnpdopubfhnv1mo
Wish I was still around and I totally would! Left early though. Good luck!

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚ Just arrived
yheaqqekl21d
welcome!!
zckwzsyktj21d
I'm planning on Lisbon in March for a month or two but AirBNB seems to be about 1000-1500 euro per month for a small 1 bed place, is this typical? I thought the attraction of the place was that it was cheap? Should I book a hotel for a few days and then see what I can find on the ground?
tazvlrvmtf21d
For such a "nomad spot" this channel is pretty consistently dead, why do you think?
nkfcyubc21d
this is the place where all the cool lisbon nomads hang out www.facebook.com/groups/532696873566509/
olyyolukfx20d
Yeah I think oddly a lot of the nomads in Lisbon aren't active on here
uhbpbhczmx20d
that's at least what I have found, of the nomads I've met there
xomtansdxp20d
similar for other places too
vyzzrhitdv20d
like Croatia
wfuooetlei20d
I checked out the Lisbon Facebook group that seems to very busy which is cool
hsozwymcg20d
Lisbon digital nomads is extremely busy and eventful, they organize events almost everyday of the week.
yjraocnet20d
But indeed this # is pretty slow
aahgrzsea20d
yes, i'm sure you find better deals than that, but if you are in the city, that is +- the price. housing is expensive, the rest is pretty reasonable
wkkmhytpj20d
I am probably renting my entire place for 6 weeks from mid abril till end of may. it's a big 3 bedroom + big living room + office with gigabit internet. the entire place will be ~ 3k for 6 weeks
fapefonqoyoukm20d
rip to everyone that doesnโ€™t have Facebook sweat_smilesweat_smile
hhsfafeohwobdy20d
Moving down to Lisbon for a few months starting beginning of February - any recommended working cafes or coworking spaces that all the nomads work from?
pafqusiat20d
ljupzuveoovlcfn kinda yeah, fake account for the sake of society?
this is happening on friday www.facebook.com/events/185143462549976/ if anyone likes coffee
elptwie19d
from what I understand, a lot of local and expat are also in the โ€œnomad communitiesโ€. I did a couple of โ€œdigital nomad meetupโ€ and I was the only one nomad. They all settled!
pjhghbp19d
ohwdpkhnlkxwtnh Hereโ€™s my Nomadic map for Portugal (Lisbon&Porto)!
Iโ€™m completing Porto at the moment
dnseqgkjxlozdby18d
Currently scouting out cafes and adding them to goodworkcafes.com|goodworkcafes.com, should be nicely populated by the time you arrive ๐Ÿ˜„
ceqwwyhkkqbhqoo18d
A friend told me Lisbon is where nomads go to die (settle)
dhibisqkerlfxuy18d
Seems like Copenhagen Coffee Lab is a popular recc on people's travel blogs, but I went yesterday and the wifi was really slow.
qvhmxyfsaptheku18d
Best I've found so far for working is called Cafe Boavida, good tables wifi is 30 mbps down/15 up
teyiipmdy15d
I think a lot of people move from nomad to slowmad here, it's an amazing city to build a base
kadjbnskfucbcki13d
It's an awfully nice city. I've been under the weather so haven't gotten to enjoy it as much as I wanted to so far though.
ahmoldyzhmlilkd13d
For me the killer spot so far is Mexico City.
erulybrsfkwujmc13d
What's the stay-length where you go from nomad to slowmad?
efjkuifsxyzz13d
Wow. Didn't realize how busy Lisbon coworkings are !
tukyygjxyaqs13d
Done Copenhagen Coffee Lab. The only two pros is cash only and somewhat crappy wifi. But it was pretty good still. Coffee was amazing.
cmkcysjilnpm13d
I stopped by a coworking space near Graรงa
nkhpglugliro13d
What's that?
suskbukcn12d
Idk, a few months? I settled here in Lisbon, but I leave quite often
xtvjieksm12d
Did you try Monday one from Selva cafe?
vpcpiybe12d
coworklisboa at LXF had to close end of last year. Operator of LXF raised rents ridicolously.
gspclemvlihy12d
I'm in Heden, it's 200 euro for 24/7 fixed desk. Decent choice, IMO
ftjozkwxzy12d
So can anyone recommend a coworking space that is light and airy with decent office desks and decent office chairs? Iโ€™ve been searching online and Iโ€™m sure the hipster vibe is cool and all, but sitting all day on a โ‚ฌ20 plastic chair from IKEA ainโ€™t me
avahvspxzuzswf8d
Thanks for the recs! Checked at Copenhagen coffee labs and was decent, will check out Cafe Boavida and the one near Graรงa (Heden?)
yfimkus7d
Hey guys, whatโ€™s the real price for 1 bedroom apartment right now if I am going for 3 month or so?
Thinking about going to Lisbon for May-July and curious about current flat prices
yuhrxexrsxptqf7d
Depends on the neighbourhood and who you renting it from.
bwmdjrccqzdrdu7d
I think 1200 euros is the minimum for a flat around Baixa (although those might be tricky to find).

Have a look around Alvalade, Roma and perhaps Arroios for lower rents and local vibes.
ggranpi7d
Doesnโ€™t really matters to me, would be great to have access to subway though
zmzbdsp7d
I only lived in Alcantara before, but itโ€™s a bit far from subway
zeddtzzhmxbayn7d
Alvalade, Roma and Arroios are all on the Green line which gets you downtown fairly quickly
hqygvuofmokcsl7d
Alcantara is meh, nothing there apart from LX factory
tivlgsr7d
Nice, is it possible to find something there for 700-800?
qstiptq7d
Yep, although LX factory is great! ๐Ÿ˜„
fecfzhd7d
And I could run at the embankment
vclvxmkxmeukqb7d
I think so, but you might need to expand your search for that amount
zoatssl7d
Okay thanks!
jjvatcccqgsubk7d
no worries โ˜บ๏ธ good luck!
lccypyv7d
Do you know if there any websites aside from Airbnb?
mmzoizj7d
I rent throught the Uniplaces last time, not sure if itโ€™s still there
nntrfjq7d
it was 4 years ago
avhtmucliksagn7d
apljpkfqvgqdfw7d
Not entirely sure that it has short term rentals but it can give you an idea of prices
ldxaplo7d
Thanks!
cexhyktjfx7d
I'm also interested in this question. Go on AirBNB, and the prices seem to be โ‚ฌ1500 per month. But in Facebook groups, anything priced towards or over โ‚ฌ1K per month is laughed at by locals saying stuff like "where do you think you are?", "who can afford this". Never really seen a place with so much price disparity, and the prices are putting me off going if I'm honest. Might as well stay in London for 1500 per month.
eyfywwfyrpvzix7d
gwrkgnaaybh yeah, people laugh at those prices because the minimum salary is around 700 euros a month. People who have houses on AirBnb tend to make a business out of it and over time buy more and more properties and build they โ€œportfolioโ€.

My friends who still live in Lisbon are being pushed out to the suburbs purely because thereโ€™s no way to afford a decent place in a central location.
mbvpfdeqpbhcsn7d
Iโ€™d avoid AirBnb altogether and try to get a place to stay via those Facebook groups, if you can. Although, you might still struggle since most landlords will try to increase the price for non Portuguese (which, to be fair, happens everywhere)
iqwudnanvn7d
olnbbrjwrrcwqps thanks! I was thinking of hiring a local to scout out some places on the classified sites and acting as my front person, I have been spending time on imovirtual and olx, a lot are in portugese, but the prices look a lot better than airbnb
zmyteur6d
I was really surprised by the prices, it seems they increased a lot for the last years in Lisbon. Can only feel sorry for locals
aodfhgc6d
uiqtvivhwss can you share facebook groups? Maybe in private, not sure if itโ€™s allowed
xhdmzvm6d
Also checking Uniplaces where I already rent before, but the prices there is also not so low ๐Ÿ˜„
kklgcmgxkb6d
Will send you a PM of the places I am looking at
