I'm heading to London in a few weeks for work. And thinking of organising a meet-up if anyone fancy's it?
hidden for non-members3mo
ohqklaig definitely interested in a meetup. I'm moving to London in about 2 weeks ☺️
hidden for non-members3mo
Does anyone have a recommended airport car service?

Morning All! I'm in London working from a WeWork then heading to a travel tech pitch event if anyone is around?
hidden for non-members2mo
Darn. That sounds amazing but I can't go tomorrow. Let me know how it was?
hidden for non-members2mo
Nice, tempted to go alonmg
hidden for non-members2mo
Of course ! Looks super interesting
hidden for non-members2mo
Yep. I work in travel so it's up my street - lemme know if you go for it
hidden for non-members2mo
Thank you!
hidden for non-members2mo
Cool, I'm working around the corner, might see if there's space on the door later on
hidden for non-members2mo
hey buddies, just traveling today to London for AngularConnect, somebody else?
hidden for non-members2mo
hidden for non-members2mo
Why is the temp on the tube set to approximately that of the sun?
hidden for non-members2mo
To make the British appreciate their chilly weather the rest of the time?
hidden for non-members2mo
it's hell in summer. I refuse to take the underground during the day, crammed with people and it's 45 degrees ☠
hidden for non-members2mo
txbbjsqfolkuop are you on the central line?
hidden for non-members2mo
xiluhcuchrk Victoria
hidden for non-members2mo
And now I'm freezing on the train north. Lol
hidden for non-members2mo
They have the aircon on.
hidden for non-members2mo
Yeah the tube is not known for its temperature regulation
hidden for non-members2mo
My favourite thing, is in the summer, when the train is literally a sauna....
hidden for non-members2mo
The train will stop for a while in the tunnel
hidden for non-members2mo
Then someone on the train in front will panic and pull the emergency alarm because they're too hot
hidden for non-members2mo
So then your train is stuck in the tunnel behind that tunnel for even longer
hidden for non-members2mo
And then people genuinely start passing out and getting sick because of the heat
hidden for non-members2mo
So more emergency alarms get pulled
hidden for non-members2mo
^*behind that train
hidden for non-members2mo
(*Not behind that tunnel)
hidden for non-members2mo
Jeez
hidden for non-members2mo
pass
hidden for non-members2mo
The tube slowly heats the ground around it, so it's getting hotter and hotter down there
hidden for non-members2mo
arriving tomorrow actualllyyyy >_>

Is it possible to buy reasonably priced organic herbs and spices in bulk anywhere in London? Looking for Peppermint, Lavender, Cumin, etc.
hidden for non-members1mo
You looking for zero-waste bulk stores or just bulk in general?
hidden for non-members1mo
plzpda how early you willing to wake up? new covent garden market is where i go to get all my hard to find or bulk food stuff, but it's opens at like midnight and closes 5 or 6am.
hidden for non-members1mo
But its more for restaurant quality ingredients, so not sure how reasonably prices their spices are
hidden for non-members1mo
ogbcqctsdnhxnqh maybe the question might also be "how long are you willing to stay awake" 😹 b/c midnight would be a totally reasonable time for me for a nice evening shopping run
hidden for non-members1mo
hahaha, yeah usually you have to wake up at like 3am to make sure you get there when its fully open and running. if the suns out, you're too late already
hidden for non-members1mo
wow sounds amazing
hidden for non-members1mo
but its the best place in london to get random stuff and much cheaper than you would from other places, long as you know how to pick things.
hidden for non-members1mo
also, theres a flower market, thats where i get all the flowers for my wife lol. Valentines day costs me like a third of what it would if i went to a flourist
hidden for non-members1mo
during valentines day/week it's like £1 - £1.50 per rose, instead of £5 at a flourist.
hidden for non-members1mo
I think that's where someone I know sourced all their flowers from for a wedding. I just remember hearing how people had to go at like 3am but they saved hundreds of pounds.
hidden for non-members1mo
Oh, wouldn't that be the Columbia Road flower market perhaps? I always wanted to go and check it out when I was in London, but I was always too lazy to get up so early (plus, I wasn't in town too often on a Sunday morning, rather only Sunday evening -> Friday evening)
hidden for non-members1mo
No, covent garden for flowers is even cheaper than Columbia rd, but you have to get there at night owl hours
hidden for non-members1mo
Columbia is only on Sundays, but early is only around 8 or so which is reasonable
hidden for non-members1mo
Will keep that in mind, thanks!
hidden for non-members1mo
yeah, covent garden is like the source for everyone else. Some of them deliver though, you can call them and ask them to send it over, but they charge about £20-£30 for that depending on where you live
hidden for non-members1mo
yeah, for my wedding we also sourced our flowers from there, then got someone else from near chelsea harbour to make the actual arrangement and add all the extras like trees and stuff. Was maybe a quarter what the hotel's own flourist quoted us for something much worse
hidden for non-members1mo
When i say we, i mean my wife, i mostly watched from a safe distance
hidden for non-members1mo
but the food market is also where you can get stuff like truffles for basically nothin
hidden for non-members1mo
well, compared to what they charge at restaurants anyway. And all other types of stuff like that.
hidden for non-members1mo
wmlyqmzyplvwjgx thanks for the covent garden market tip. not sure if those hours will work for me though 😆
hidden for non-members1mo
haha, yeah it's hard. You have to really really want something from there. :)
hidden for non-members1mo
I like quality and I'm happy to buy quantity
hidden for non-members1mo
I did the same for Billingsgate once
hidden for non-members1mo
made a fun trip of it
hidden for non-members1mo
Having trouble finding quality UK brands / distributors for bulk goods though. Frontier, Mountain Rose Herbs or Bob's Red Mill in the US are all solid (Bob's is available here but the markup is shockingly high).
hidden for non-members1mo
Can anybody recommend some place within a (maybe max 6 hour) train ride from London that is fun and where I might find accommodation under ~$60/night (for private room w/ bathroom)
hidden for non-members1mo
I'm booked in london through tuesday and no plan after, but accommodation expensive AF 😒
hidden for non-members1mo
kind of just want to chill out somewhere else a couple weeks while I sort some business matters
hidden for non-members1mo
so my mom and i stayed at a great guest house in keswick in the lake district. it's a beautiful area. the cost was $45/night.
hidden for non-members1mo
Lake District is really beautiful! I also like the Cotswolds but I don't know about accommodation prices there.
hidden for non-members1mo
+1 for lake district. Just make sure you book a seat on the train or there is a very good chance you'll end up standing the whole way there! Also its cold now so dress warm

Anyone have any good recommendations for a co-working space in west / central London? Willing to pay…
hidden for non-members1mo
aiktdssjwek if you're here long enough (i.e. 3 months or more) then Pavilion is the nicest and also in kensington. Otherwise just any wework really. So many of them around these days. And if you're near westfield in white city, huckletree is nice
hidden for non-members1mo
but pavilion and huckletree, they're on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of design and atmosphere, but my favourite.
hidden for non-members1mo
I've been mostly at home these days, having my introvert days. But willing to hit a coffeeshop/coworking space on Friday, maybe even Wednesday :)
hidden for non-members1mo
Thanks kebuxmfpiuhnttb Will check these out.

Looking to stay in London for a couple months starting in January. Anyone know the best way to find a decent price for a studio or 1bd apartment? (besides airbnb)
hidden for non-members6d
I had success with >http://spareroom.co.uk|spareroom.co.uk>, but it was helpful being in town to visit in-person before committing

much appreciated!

I'm planning to go to London for NYE, any tips on what to do and this kind of stuff?
hidden for non-members4d
Foster dissent. Propose exiting some union or international association. You could have a natoxit or a ukxit
hidden for non-members4d
the London fireworks are quite a spectacle qpbhsbejvgtt just avoid if you don't like big crowds (I mean BIG crowds!), and get there early because they close off some of the better locations to stand by early evening (5.00pm - 6.00pm) for crowd control / safety
hidden for non-members4d
bring some drink that doesn't require you to go to the bathroom, i.e. skip beer, go for port or whisky
hidden for non-members4d
or if you value your time more and don't mind spending a bomb, look up clubs and bars around the Embankment area and book a space
hidden for non-members4d
would recommend Tamesis Dock >https://www.tdock.co.uk/>
hidden for non-members3d
Niiiice! Great tips. Don't you need a ticket to see the fireworks?
hidden for non-members3d
no probs! possibly - I last went ~10 years ago 😄
hidden for non-members3d
haha cool, thanks man 🙂
