I think so. KL is one of the few cities where Airbnbs have not gone too crazy with their prices.
anonoz 17d
IMO yes, and I wrote how to verify them in the guide
ccooper 17d
Took around 25 mins (from him accepting) at international arrivals. I'll definitely be ordering earlier next time, as there's also plenty of space for them to wait there
akbarr 16d
Any bnb recs near the KL airport?
anonoz 16d
Cyberjaya has a lot of cheap airbnbs, though not necessarily clean.

Only do airbnb for stays > 7 nights, hotels are cheap af here
anonoz 16d
Cyberjaya is secretly an international foodie heaven coz of foreign stduents from africa, arab league, china.

Just wanna save your troubles, coz nomadlist meetups have been pretty small in KL this year. The hookie dookie one is really huge.
mayukojpn 12d
Yay! It's scheduled :smiling_face_with_3_hearts:
I prefer nomad meetup than random people drinking meetups. They are also nice though.
mayukojpn 12d
I'll bring my laptop and will work at Lalaport food court before the meetup. Let me know if anyone is around then!
anonoz 12d
This is Magnificent Fish & Chips. I am here until maybe 10.30pm.

I havenโ€™t tried inside! I usually sat outside table with friends. I like that place too! Will definitely join next time.

Whats the best website to use to find an apartment to rent for 3 months in KL?
anonoz 10d
6-12 months propertyguru
ccooper 10d
definitely confirm the Airbnb listed is in the location/building you think it is tho! Not sure if it's a KL thing, but so many "no longer in this location" or in the wrong place on the map
see you guys tonight for those that are joining!
if you are early, nzmvuzhbghx i can join you too for dinner
oh good to know! but i wouldnt be around then!

I couldnโ€™t make it today, but if somebody wants to hang out before i go to Korea on Tuesday, let me know
Yeah, out of my last 5 Airbnb's 3 have been garbage... the pictures are just so misleading, and kitchens are always poor. Lost all faith in that platform as the reviews never seem to mention the broken aircon or the 4 feet of black mould in the bathroom! hahah!
Looks like fun! Sorry I missed it. I will make the next one. I am in KL for the next 3 months.

anonoz 5d
bwdjwbmfyw You can find them on meetup.com|meetup.com as Language Exchange group. They have a whatsapp group called Kemi Kuala Lumpur. No need to rsvp, you cant miss the huge crowd at lalaport street, hookie dookie bar.
cool, thanks!

Hi, whatโ€™s the recommended esim to use in KL for around 10days?
anonoz 5d
Yoodo! Its my daily driver since 2019, has 5G.
akbarr 5d
Sweet, thanks man!
anonoz 5d
I get RM 20 credit, you get extra 7GB data
akbarr 5d
Cool, I will use the code

I signed up for my one month in KL (about 2 weeks ago) - really happy with it :relaxed:
Almost instant activation!
akbarr 5d
Whatโ€™s the recommended plan? You think I can top up if I run through the data?
akbarr 5d
Is this an esim? Itโ€™s asking for a delivery address
anonoz 5d
dsqcidkv Follow my pinned guide. You click acctivate > esim.
I'll see if I can make it. Just arrived in KL on wednesday.
anonoz 5d
Customize high speed, buy 5G. The unlimited speed has limited tethering quota.
Will be coming to KL for the first time for just two weeks at the end of November. Looking for recommendations for what area to stay in. Won't need a cowork, but judging from Hoodmaps and previous messages in this channel, it looks like there's a lot going on around Bukit Bintang. Is that a good area for a first visit, or should I be looking somewhere else? Thanks!
anonoz 4d
nomadlist.slack.com/files/T02G7L49N/F04CAEH1BDZ|https://nomadlist.slack.com/files/T02G7L49N/F04CAEH1BDZ I recommend ekocheras area for returnee or long stays. Short stays just do bukit bintang, but you wont get a decent KL experience.
Thank you! Normally I don't go anywhere for less than a month, but I'm trying squeeze in KL and Chiang Mai to the same trip. Haven't been to either, want to check out both.
anonoz 4d
I may just go there from TRX, xpyctlimjjh how do I ID you?
anonoz 4d
What do you look for when you travel? Can I assume this is ur 1st visit to Malaysia?
akbarr 4d
Whatโ€™s the recommended transportation? Public or should I stick to Grab? First time here
anonoz 4d
Grab/driving by default. Dont bother with buses. Take MRT LRT only if you have them next door.
This is indeed first visit to KL and Malaysia. Have been to Vietnam, Thailand, and other parts of East Asia, but Malaysia has been on my radar for a long time.

Where I live in the states, the winters are snowy and cold. So, mostly, I'm just looking for a comfortable place to spend six or seven months of the year, from October to April.

So far, Buenos Aires has been my favorite, but I keep hearing great things about KL. So this visit is just reconnaissance.
anonoz 4d
umncfbgxzjqkr So you dont have any particular taste and preferences? Like you prefer tourist area, or where typical expats stay, or where you can have weekday conveniences + proper malaysian foods
anonoz 4d
Bukit Bintang is where tourists first land but you wont be finding much local foods there if thats what you want
Oh, I see what you're getting at. I prefer areas where expats stay, as long as they are walkable and have good access to shops, restaurants, etc. Quiet is good too. Not interested in nightlife.
I do tend to like areas where nomads work. It's the number of coworks in Bukit Bintang that drew me to it, even though I won't need one on this trip.
anonoz 4d
KL isnt really walkable except in tourist area. Anyway for now I will just hard sell ekocheras โ€” supermarkets, restaurants within walking distance or in the same complex, MRT connected, no tourist rip off elements.

Also since this is ur first visit, you may be underestimating malaysiansโ€™ english proficiency. Even in the neighbourhoods you are going to find menus written in english to cater for ppl of different ethnicities.

There is less reason to just stay in expat hoods like mont kiara or desa parkcity especially if you want walkable hoods. Cars are not optional there.
Much appreciated. I will give Ekocheras a good long look. Thank so much for your help.
Whoops... One more Q. When you say Ekocheras, is that the area southeast of Cheras, around the EkoCheras mall?
anonoz 4d
It is the condo right above ekocheras mall. The complex has mall, residential condo, innside hotel, office tower.
Got it. Thanks. Will definitely take a look
anonoz 4d
Itโ€™s on the same road as chinatown, parliament, high court. Historically it links thailand, KL, singapore together. Its southeast of downtown KL but cheras spans all the way into somewhere near Kajang Selangor.
Thank you so much. I've taken a look at the airbnbs at the mall and they look terrific.
anonoz 4d
Wait till you check out the restaurants and night markets around it maps.app.goo.gl/3CpY6xnZBXGHSqp4A

Can you find a table for 4?
anonoz 4d
Done
We are waiting for a signal
Meh, been coming to KL for 20 years, still stay around Bukit Bintang. Walk everywhere or if not just use Grab or get delivery. Loads of coworking. All the best malls. Tons of local food (you can eat a different dish every day for 30 days from Win Heng Seng and not run out of quality local food maps.app.goo.gl/PTbyE69326ceLs3Y8 and thats just one Hawker stall, also see Lot 10 Food Court), meet locals, meet expats, dont spend your life in traffic, most of the meetups in this area or KLCC, bars/rooftops if you want it, quality restaurants if you want it.
Stayed out of the centre, always regret it unless I hire a car.
anonoz 4d

anonoz 4d
ubwnqmrnozj Which areas have you stayed in?
anonoz 4d
I agree that most areas outside of tourist downtown are not car optional, hence I shortlisted a few transit oriented developments in the guide for weekday convenience and to cut down on necessity of grab.
rqtsdzur I've tried to stay lots of different places. KLCC, Bangsar, KL Sentral, Pudu Ulu/North Cheras, TTDI, Ampang Park, Cyberjaya, KL Tower, Mont Kiara (Publika), SS15. But still typing this from BB ๐Ÿ™‚
chyjsxzb Why tho? Isnโ€™t MRT/tracks w/o intersections faster n more reliable than cars/buses/roads w/ intersections? Does KLโ€™s MRT suck more than average or smt?
anonoz 3d
They are only good if you live right next to it. If your airbnb is 10 mins walk away from a stop a grab may just be a lot faster
Sorry I missed this one as well. ๐Ÿ˜ž
anonoz 3d
wxjbtucvosl You tried to?
anonoz 3d
Pudu Ulu is oddly specific, I had to look it up on the map but I guess its Pertama Residence. Consider the neighborhoods and condos I suggested?
anonoz 3d
Whats ur idea? Anyway propertyguru should be the cheapest already bcoz its for normal 1Y lease
Aha. Thanks, nujvfllq ! So it seems to be cultural then (expectations abt how much walking is tolerable). This is good news. I thought maybe thereโ€™d be unreliable or unsafe or smt, but itโ€™s more abt walking distance
anonoz 3d
If you want to pick a MRT stop, make sure its either Kelana Jaya or Kajang line. These two link the most tourist attractions and business districts.
akbarr 2d
