I havenโ€™t stayed there myself. A friend of mine stayed in the smallest room, not great for working
But I think thereโ€™s a resident discount for the coworking space
Iโ€™ve been to the KLCC coworking space, not much vibe, but a cheap option to get reliable internet
Ok thnx!! Appreciate it, will look into other options
anonoz 12d
I stayed 1 night in komune living and spent a few months in komune KLCC. Strongly not recommended. Room isnt really clean and coworking space is uncomfortable.

anonoz 12d
Komune coliving is just a hotel. Can look into Lyf by Ascott once it opens, I liked their Funan branch.
anonoz 12d
KL rent is so cheap, best way to go will just be airbnb monthly discount + negotiation, then get a IWG spaces membership like RM 400+ per month, you can enter regus/spaces all over malaysia, incl the photogenic old standard chartered bldg in Penang.
Agreed with leymszjd lived in Komune for a few weeks and had multiple friends who stayed there. Super overpriced imho. Would just book an Airbnb for a few weeks and then negotiate with the host..
any other recommendations for a place to stay a while?
on any of the islands for example
ccooper 11d
Penang is definitely worth checking out
gaborsch 11d
+1 for Penang, I had no expectations going in, stayed there for a month, loved it! Great food, great people, very convenient combination of very urban and nature.
gaborsch 11d
Maybe a bit of a pain in the butt if you don't rent a scooter. But with a scooter it was super convenient.
gaborsch 11d
I think local Chinese food is best, I was a huge fan of char kway teow, curry mee and apam balik. :slightly_smiling_face:
But local Indian and Malay is great as well. Even simple things like roti canai.
In terms of laksa, we also went to Sarawak and I think far and away the best laksa there is is laksa Sarawak. There are also a few places that sell it in Penang, the one we went to in George Town definitely had the real deal. ๐Ÿ™‚
I don't feel to much about moving so probably, 1 week in KL and then 2 weeks in Penang. The holidays I will go somewhere else
Thanks for the recommendationsok_hand

Any decent hotel/airbnb/guest-house recommendations in Penang(preferably Georgtown) with reasonable price, walking distance to essentials, etcโ€ฆ.? Thanks in advance!

How long are you staying in KL?
My friend and I stayed at Kim Haus and we absolutely loved it. Itโ€™s this fusion of a hostel, hotel, coworking space. Not super extravagant and the hotel itself was quiet. We really loved it and the location was 10/10 (food market, nightlife, art and cool coffee shops)
anonoz 8d
Get weekly discount on airbnbโ€ฆ Sunway Velocity, V Residence Suites.
anonoz 8d
If really wanna stay hotels, I probably would pick Somerset Damansara Uptown but thats not close to downtown, but you get a mall and good foods in PJ
anonoz 8d
Check my guide that I posted here a few days ago, I suggested a few neighbourhoods and transit oriented developments

Until Jan 3rd. Feb and March in Aus. No other plans yet.

OK OK, catch up next year then, at mamak stall.

I heard Zouk TREC has re-named to Spark... :smirk:
Regus has lesser interaction between the members in the space. Common Ground/WORQ common areas and events are pretty good for mingling with other co-workers.

I use Regus due to it is the cheapest option and available worldwide. For Malaysians, it costs around 40USD per month. It is useful when I need to focus on work and not worry about the internet connection.
anonoz 8d
I prolly gonna check out CG next. Yeah spaces is good for concentrating + cafe + wifi but lacks community aspect.

Hello Guys, I'll come to malaysia soon to work remotely.

Where do you think is the best place to be to have a coworking, beach and good place to chill/getting out ?

thanks a lot dudes ๐Ÿ™‚
anonoz 7d
If not for long, Penang or Langkawi.
Penang for sure

Hello :skin-tone-5:. Quick โ“ trying to get to Ipoh from Penang on Sunday and wondering if anyone here recommends any bus companies, personal driver? The buses only allow one backpack and I have one large one, plus a small carry-on backpack and a bag.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you ๐Ÿ™
anonoz 5d
Have you been denied bording so far? Otherwise I dont see them being that strict about baggage policy. Malaysian buses arenโ€™t really the safest nor strictest.
dalilac 5d
Thanks U042TKE3ARMโ€”no I havenโ€™t been denied boarding, but I didnโ€™t want to pay money and get there only to be denied boarding.

Iโ€™m curious about the safety. Have you experienced something bad? Would you suggest the train? Iโ€™m looking into the train option as well.
anonoz 5d
Take the train then. Buses in Msia are not the safest, my exgf has gotten into an accident where the driver and passenger in front got killed before, when the bus crashed into the divider.
anonoz 5d
It doesnt happen often lah
People around Langkawi
I feel like Langkawi is more relaxed than Penang
anonoz 4d
Of coz its a tourism island, Penang has the 2nd most populated city and they package nearly all the desktop CPUs around the world.
dalilac 4d
Yikes! Okay thanks
Thanks for the effort, appreciate it ๐Ÿ™

Beware of the monkeys near the waterfalls
not for longterm stay
tinto 4d
How long do you plan on staying there?
Today I want to leave KL
for roughly 2 weeks
Afterwards meeting with friends at Thailand for the holidays, but not even sure if it's worth visiting at all
Maybe better to go to Thailand directly and skip here:p
Thanks appreciate it
anonoz 4d
Unlike most other cities in Europe and Mexico, dont feel bad about renting airbnb in Malaysia. We have a condo oversupply to solve! Renting airbnbs will allow condo maintenance fees and local taxes to be paid.

The laws around AirBnB seem very strict here too. Buildings are designated as either short term rentals or long term rentals and AirBnB is strictly prohibited in the latter. Much better system than in many European cities IMHO.
anonoz 3d
owrgxck They are probably bylaws set by the condo JMB. I doubt the government cares about whats going on inside private properties.
tinto 3d
I visited WeWork in Mercu 2 yesterday and was quite shocked at how busy it was. Basically every single seat was occupied, with up to 4 people sharing a 'quiet' booth. Also, they said they provide access 24/7 but aircon only works until 6pm.

Gonna visit Colony, Common Ground and WORQ later. I hope I find one that's a bit more quiet.
tinto 3d
They seem to be effective at least. European cities should take note. ๐Ÿ˜‹
anonoz 3d
Check out Spaces too. The Menara Prestige one also shuts off aircond at 6 but it doesnt become warm until much later.
tinto 3d
Yeah, I figured the aircon thing shouldn't be a problem, but I guess I was expecting a better experience considering it's the (most?) expensive choice in KL
tinto 3d
Thanks for the tip!
damicii 2d
hello !

Guys from langkawi. Do you play football there ? Wanna organise some game ?
neusvc 2d
Any luck? I might need a 24h coworking for the rest of the week ๐Ÿ™
tinto 2d
Trying out WORQ KL Gateway for the day. Place is quite busy, but way more quiet because unlike WeWork itโ€™s not one big open space.
wow, I was there a couple weeks ago and it was maybe 2/3 full at best.

I personally like the other WeWork location more, EP. smaller but seems more chill and also has an on site barista during the day.
Same I usually take calls out of Airbnb but may need a good 24/7 just to get out a bit Iโ€™ll keep an eye out as well
While grab works perfectly fine here if anyone wants a driver / pickup or tour I can recommend Tourplus (app on App Store) met owner as well and the driver he sent for me is fantastic
If I land at like 3am at KL airport, will I be able to call a Grab to take me into the city?
anonoz 2d
Yes.
I might be coming there end of december or january
would play as well
anonoz 2d
Do check my KL guide in the bookmark!
Also food for thought , business class flights at KUL skip the line for immigration to a special line that takes about 2 min to get through
Found that out today as an airport employee told me by accident
you can use it too if you get an APEC card
I saw that next too it as well , can you get an APEC with a foreign passport ?
Yes but you need to be a citizen of a participating country
Ahh got it I havenโ€™t looked into it much until I saw that today
US and Canada are included as provisional members, so you get the fast lane but not the automatic business visas
Well either way still cheaper than business class tickets everytime :)
you can apply for it in the US along with your TSA Pre-Check, the same office grants it
Perfect , thatโ€™s what I was seeing if it was tsa pre or global entry requirements
Thanks for info add that too my list of too doโ€™s

Is Penang that much cheaper than KL? I've not really found it to be
anonoz 2h
No! I found penang more expensive tbh, not sure how nomadlist works. They also overestimate living expenses in argentina due to blue dollar system.
