(Hey Cameron ! Nice to see you after Saigon !)

I am at Sefina on Mont Kiara.
Small world! Haha, looking forward to the meetup ๐Ÿ˜
cy 24d
Btw... Not just Malaysia, you can use their office worldwide.

The issues is the community there is weaker compared to startup focused coworking space.
cy 24d
e.g. I am paying 189MYR per month for Regus Membership + 5 days co-working. I can earn back that investments by just drinking the nespresso coffee from the office... ๐Ÿคช
anonoz 24d
In KL which coworking spaces got startup ppl, or with community feeling
cy 24d
I don't know... Not really care about the community anymore... Just get shit done and enjoy life!
anonoz 24d
Yalor, spaces ok lah, I liked their klcc branch quite syok. Just booked trx fixed desk.
cy 24d
Spaces is better since IWG is pushing Spaces. All their locations are top notch. Planing to get Spaces after my Regus contract end.
Just landed. Wonโ€™t make it to the meetup Iโ€™m afraid.
axel 24d
Yeah it's at least 1h in the airport and 1h getting to KL
sorry I can't come, last minute thing. see you next time

metystnfmhszt If you guys wanna do later rounds we will keep yall posted
Yeah, airport was quick but just getting the Grab took 30 minutes. Yay.
gztwzhif I think we will probably just get some rest. My wife is kinda beat.
anonoz 24d
Ah ok ok
Iโ€™m on the way. Trying to figure out public transport so will be late.

Looks like you all had a terrific night, so fun! Cannot believe you were out until 4am, I am definitely not cut out for those kinds of nights anymore! lol

Today we're going to do a bit of light shopping. We are going to head to Pavillion and perhaps do some inner city sight seeing, and maybe purchase some items for our AirBnB.
axel 23d
We live just next to pavilion if you want to meet up for a coffee.. and no, we all left around 1-2 am (which is still plenty late for me but aveqbgwj is just another kind of beast)

best site/app to book the recommended places to stay? couldn't find any availability for V Residence
anonoz 22d
Velocity is in high demand, try searching for other properties like lucentia, ekocheras? Or just find those in bt bintang if you dont stay for long

~Anyone with any tips where I might find a cheap coffee grinder? Bonus points if itโ€™s near Lucentia/BBCC. I bought whole beans by accident and I have no way to deal with them. Oh, and like a fool, I didn't realize until after I'd opened the packet.~

We found a terrible coffee grinder and averted our crises. If anyone wants the grinder after we're done with it, let me know. It's truly awful, but all yours if you just want a cute little old school grinder.
cjzua ended up watching at our lodgings - did you watch?
nightfury 20d
Did you find it at Jaya ? I was going to say you might try Whats on Tap in the food area between the mall, they grind beans thereโ€ฆnot sure if they would do someone elseโ€™s could always ask nice ๐Ÿ˜‰
Literally just saw this. Awful Slack-ing.
Sorry Axel, hopefully some other time.
axel 20d
No worries whatsoever! :)

If you ever need other coffee stuff in KL I recommend Coffee Icon. They have equipment and great beans from all over. They deliver too
nightfury 19d
binklfvsythll that looks like the Nitori store at lalaport
Very likely since she was in Lalaport ๐Ÿ™‚
Never used a worse coffee grinder lol
nvmdrmsre That store looks so good! All their grinders are on the large size though, I think if I were to buy something it'd likely be a Porlex mini or something along those lines.
alextan 19d
Yeah I just exchanged my big electric grinder for a 1ZPresso JX, made in Taiwan which I can highly recommend. I had it shipped to the US and it was there in under a week. Probably even better shipping for Malaysia.

guluvphmo I have a 1Zpresso K-Plus at home, I freaking LOVE it! I considered bringing it but decided to simply buy pre-ground beans for this year. It's not as nice, and I _really_ enjoy grinding it myself in the mornings, but it seemed a reasonable trade-off.

Imagine my surprise when I bought whole beans by accident....
anonoz 18d

Hey everyone, Iโ€™ve been a little around Malaysia (KL, Penang and Malacca), and had a tip about Sarawak as a potential nomad destination for the future. Fast internet, beautiful, coworking spacesโ€ฆ

Any opinions on Sarawak as a potential nomad destination?
ccooper 6d
It's a bit quieter, but I liked it out there. There's nothing like the nomad visa tho, so I think you'd be limited to 3 month visa free stays (which probably isn't a huge issue)
That is ok actually, I never used a nomad visa in my life :slightly_smiling_face:

Wondering more about things to do like exploring, sports, beach, etc
spent a month in Kuching back in August/September

it's nice enough, the distances to see/do things are quiet large though. there is a semi-walkable core with some nice/interesting areas between the waterfront and Merdeka Square. Chinatown (which is pretty small) is nice enough and the laksa sarawak is to die for ๐Ÿ™‚ but I would say most of the most impressive things about Sarawak are outside of the cities so you might want to get wheels - but grab is affordable enough for the things that are close by.

Bako National Park is pretty close to Kuching and it's an absolute MUST! only basic government lodging available, to be booked online, pretty basic but it does the job. I recommend spending at least 2 full days out there, it's beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚
Had no Internet issues but that is accommodation-specific so you should ask your host or hotel. Scooters are available at prices not much higher than in Penang, but the distances are much larger. The jungle is awesome. And Kuching feels like a proper jungle city, at least it did to me. (Although KL is quite green as well.)
In terms of Kuching's "nomad value", don't know if it's very strong on that, probably not, because it's not something I seek out actively. I mean an active nomad community, coworking spaces, nomad events. There are expats but there isn't an area that has a lot of foreigners to the best of my knowledge. The city is pretty spread out, there is a lot of sprawl once you move away from the waterfront. It was a fun base for a month while we explored some of Sarawak.
Sports dunno, gyms, probably. Finding a good place to run outside isn't easy.

Beach those are further east. But Sabah is the "beach destination state" of Borneo anyway.
nthnjns 5d
Kuching was nice for three or four nights, but I was ready to bail after that. Maybe if you are really into sweating in the jungle it might be fun for longer ๐Ÿ™‚
fynxelfggi thank you so much for all the information, really useful. I am looking into it for building a future small community, like 50-100 nomads and your info and experience are gold ๐Ÿ™‚
pkzjapmid I get the sentiment, but I do like the jungle stuff, especially outside the city. Also, there was a big international food festival when we were there, so that was also fun. Almost 300 stalls with all kinds of food for weeks. And then later the Mooncake Festival (I don't like mooncakes, but they were selling all kinds of things). ๐Ÿ™‚
nthnjns 4d
hahah thatโ€™s awesome. yeah itโ€™s a decent place. better air quality than most of thailand for most of the year, so that is a plus. food festivals are always nice.
I'm also not itching to go back or anything, but I think of it fondly. I just have places I prioritize higher for repeat trips (Thai islands, Penang, Taiwan)
nthnjns 4d
Yeah agreed. Intent to return and then actual rate of return is a really important metric. So many places I was glad I visited but will likely never go again. Thailandโ€™s Intent to Return is around 80% and Vietnam is just 8% (this is for tourism not nomading but you get the idea)โ€ฆMajor challenge with Borneo and a lot of these places is getting people to come back after they see orangoutangs and Mount Kinabulu
