Hey ๐Ÿ‘‹ everyone. Iโ€™m doing some research on non-schengen, nomad-friendly Europea cities. Wonder if anyone recommends Belgrade since itโ€™s high up in the ranking
ekisbdtr2mo
You mean in Serbia, right? Since Itโ€™s #serbia channel. Well, in that case Novi Sad and Belgrade ๐Ÿ™‚ For other places you better asking in #europe. My personal preference is Sofia, Bansko (Bulgaria), Budapest (Hungary)
ltavcrph2mo
Ah, sorry you meant non-Schengen only. Okay, then Hungary is out of this list.
hfuykzt2mo
Since weโ€™re in #serbia, Would you recommend Sofia / Bansko over Belgrade?
oppwoxqc2mo
I would, yes. I liked more there than in Belgrade. Internet was better, the prices were about the same or better, more people spoke English and there was less bureaucracy in Bulgaria than in Serbia (e.g papers for checking in in the hotel, etc). But if you are in Serbia, I would recommend Novi Sad over Belgrade easily.
gmxdajzvgzfar2mo
i also like sofia and bansko. it depends on what you're looking for. my favorite place is sarajevo though
cpxmlku2mo
Oh interesting ๐Ÿค” even over Sofia and Bansko? Why?
cbgdheqesmjjp2mo
i definitely prefer the food. bulgarian food is not great. ๐Ÿ™‚ it's also beautiful, great internet, cheap, and has interesting history. and it's small enough that it doesn't feel like a big city, like sofia does. but it's big enough that it's hopping all year round, unlike bansko, which is very seasonal.
yuypayz2mo
i don't think you can compare belgrade vs bansko haha, so different
rldeuut2mo
if i was picking a city in that part of the world i would second the pick for sarajevo, for all the same reasons.
wtlklxp2mo
felt like my 2 weeks in belgrade weren't enough, and i didn't spend enough time in sofia to have a strong opinion on it, but it seemed nice. if i went back to bulgaria i'd do plovdiv though.
atdebtu2mo
i think to like belgrade you have to like the "grungy city" vibe
ielwecrtlccti2mo
plovdiv is also a great option, yes.
cjtraeux2mo
Yeah, Plovdiv is awesome. Well.. Varna is awesome too, actually ๐Ÿ™‚
jhjdqsriddc2mo
+1 for Plovdiv, I liked it way more than Sofia. I also like Belgrade a lot :)
sobbanuef2mo
I liked Belgrade a lot too. I guess it all depends on what you like. They had a good variety of food and excellent coffee there. My only complaints were the smoking in cafes and restaurants was over the top, and that women were too tall ๐Ÿ™‚
wupafefnlhxzu2mo
oh god. the smoking in the balkans is the worst part of being there.
nbevntx2mo
not of a fan of the smoking but wonโ€™t mind too much towards the warmer part of the year since I donโ€™t have to be indoors if I donโ€™t want to ๐Ÿ™‚
cuwtzalucjmfr2mo
yeah, i would never be able to survive there in winter.
lvlegckbpgayr2mo
summer is good. very much a cafe culture/everyone outside region.
tfycuit2mo
Thatโ€™s everyone for the insights. I think Belgrade is the clear winner here
uchznin2mo
Love that
tdyiuok2mo
i remember seeing a cafe in sarajevo that had a 5 star review "the only non-smoking cafe in town ... what else do i need to say?"
pjwwdrha1mo
Anyone here?

fnlypbuh1mo
Hey knoblfvqcx it's quite here. are you in Serbia? how's it there
deznxesjq1mo
Hey! It's nice and warm :)
hsvqklgl1mo
fxiyjkloqi Awesome, what about the people, is there any nomad community? places to work from that's suitable for non-smokers?
ijwvvrjtmxcor1mo
non smoker in serbia - good luck. i love serbia - except for the constant and persistent smoking
gxxzlttj1mo
dijllbpdzzlgvp I have that in my home and I hate it, there is literally very few non smoking cafes in Egypt.
Is serbia the same? can you at least find 'some' non-smoking cafes to work from?
uyqcgnmztdweh1mo
yeah, serbia is the same. there are probably a couple non smoking ones. i think xhiaqeah knows one. but the VAST majority are going to have smoking.
anssgvz1mo
sadly the two i went to both closed
vuxiqgjbbroq1mo
There are some. The community is quite active on laptopfriendly.co/belgrade, you can look up the no-smoke filter there
pgkwzxajesqv1mo
Note that a lot of the places have separate areas for smokers vs non-smokers, which can be tricky if the sections are not physically separated.
rztgwtybtlml1mo
There is a nomad community but you might need to find them locally. Iโ€™m not aware of a good online way to reach them, Meetup is not so active etc.
zjkmrdwfybco1mo
Iโ€™d say go to hip bars/cafes and if you hear English feel free to approach, it will likely be a nomad.

Especially if theyโ€™re behind a laptop ofc ๐Ÿ˜…
ayfpxxrb1mo
Good idea thanks, can you name few bars to help me chose a location around them?
ancozuai1mo
Well I understand that the majority is smoking, but I don't need 100+ cafes either, just 2-3 around the area would do.
rhxxmrmm1mo
It can't be that bad, or can it?
bdphsdjoxyvzy1mo
it can. but i really hate smoking and i have a nose like a bloody hound to smell it.
pdogqjrp1mo
๐Ÿ˜ท
ehbheiwpcfaly1mo
like, i just went out into the hall of my hotel to go get the night guy because there was some super loud banging going on that i wanted him to make stop. and as soon as i opened the door from my room to the hall i could tell the people at the other end of the hall were smoking in their room. they're like 20 meters away behind another door and i could smell it.
dkpmxujyhbzpi1mo
it's a curse.
kzcfzuxnxazq1mo
The area around Cetinjska 15 is pretty social. KC Grad too, they used to have language exchanges too, not sure if thatโ€™s still going on.
njvibedof1mo
Yes, regulations here about smoking / nonsmoking areas are a bit of useless, because you can have two tables next to each other, one in a smoking and another in a non-smoking area :D

Anyways, here's the list of non-smoking cafรฉs in Belgrade. It should be enough for a city of that size www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qkPRUNRiCqA-uFugbcuVy9INXgw&ll=44.94385859745956%2C20.26293108068853&z=14|https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qkPRUNRiCqA-uFugbcuVy9INXgw&ll=44.94385859745956%2C20.26293108068853&z=14
gqnoxvkc1mo
Ok from the map, I see there are plenty of non-smoking options
wcnbcglvv1mo
Yeah ๐Ÿ™‚
gndhnibw1mo
Even worse in Turkey, to be honest ๐Ÿ™‚
awcafnvrcajfs1mo
i haven't found it to be as bad here, but there's definitely a smoking culture.
qlp1mo
Iโ€™m usually in Nova Iskar coworking space - its really cool there.
rtu1mo
its non smoking
cwhmmfdi1mo
Cool, maybe I'll join you there by the end of the month
klmflxkjsfu24d
Anyone in Belgrade wanna grab a beer?
