plmpw thanks for that. So while hiking is dangerous and should be done in groups, any thoughts on solo daytime runs along the sea point promenade? Iโ€™m guessing based on what you said that would likely be safe?
kks 1mo
Sea Point solo runs in the day are 100% safe. Hiking solo at busy times is ok on busy routes but still group pref.
kks 1mo
Sea Point does have a fair amount of homeless people - 2-4 people sleeping on the side streets every night and still there in the morning. But like in the UK they are just trying to survive and my experience so far has not been negative. Sometimes people will ask you for food especially if youโ€™re eating while out and about. But again I get that in London.
Iโ€™m sadly used to a high number of homeless in California - in SF and LA they are very aggressive (a lot of drugs and mental illness) so safety is an issue
Fantastic response csngf Thank you!

I'm looking at staying at NeighbourgoodEast City - Cape Town CBD. So this seems like a good area to stay based on your response. Are you familiar with Neighbourgood? or anyone else?
> so you get Ubers everywhere
any issues with ubers solo?
or is it better to ask, is doing stuff/getting taxis etc in groups always the better/safer option?
> Night time is when itโ€™s sketchy af to walk around
So just a big no then? solo night walking? ๐Ÿ˜„
Cost of eating out etc. What city would you compare it to? Is it pretty cheap? cechh

I know a couple people living in Neighborgood East - theyโ€™re both women and they like it and feel safe. I personally prefer Green Point and Sea Point to CBD for everyday living.

Ubers are fine solo.

Yea donโ€™t walk alone at night, especially if youโ€™re gonna stay in CBD. You can walk like a block or two from one bar to another or something like that, but more than that and _everyone_ Iโ€™ve met local and seasoned visitor says grab an Uber.

Itโ€™s a very cheap city with a western income. Coffee is like โ‚ฌ1.50. Breakfast is โ‚ฌ3-6. Steak is like โ‚ฌ10-20. Beer is โ‚ฌ2-3 in a restaurant/bar.
Thank you.

Any particular reason you prefer those other two areas over CBD for daily living? More restaurants, cafes etc around?

For those who aren't tired of the Springboks/Rugby hysteria... The trophy parade is happening this week. I was at the 2019 version, and it was definitely a good vibe.

vggcnrqsguvgcre as a general rule, never hike alone regardless of the time. Especially as a female.
gwkllgyx hiking yes, but per above and other advice Iโ€™ve received, running on the sea point promenade is ok alone during the day - does that seem right? Thank you!

Hey U03S2P4KUJE! I stayed in a Neighbourgood earlier this year - the Green Point location. LOVED it. Amazing cafe attached, pool, outdoor area. Really clean and awesome staff. My room was SUPER tiny though. I'd recommend staying in Green Point and Sea Point like ozofq said! I've been to Cape Town twice now and everything he said is spot on. The CBD is not really a spot I'd hang out in - sometimes I go to a NBGD there to work or for coffee or some appointment. Most people I know who got robbed experienced it in the city center. Other than that, I used to walk to the gym every day around Green Point then I moved to Sea Point and still walked during the day and never had problems. Hope that helps!

Hey beautiful people

I'm looking for a month-long rental in Capetown in January but the prices on AirBnB are crazy - does anyone have a rec on where to look for a place? ๐Ÿ™
Probably with try going to the beach or having some good natural wines! ๐Ÿท
Iโ€™m staying in Neighbourgood coliving, but the prices (and quality) depend on the location - still cheaper than most abnbs I reckon
My mates are visiting from London and weโ€™ve got a few things planned for them. If we end up about in town Iโ€™ll let you guys know
Youโ€™re arriving in peak period. Options might be to live a little further out. Uberโ€™s are cheap. Coliving is an option but โ€œshort termโ€ rentals are extremely rare. Most are looking for yearly commitments.

What areas have you searched?
ztgixizylokfrek Iโ€™m looking at some kayaking in the morning and potentially some paragliding afterwards. Thatโ€™ll mean a hike up Signal hill. Currently recovering from a cold so will likely book/plan on Friday (who am i kidding, cold or not, iโ€™d plan last minute anyway haha)

Random bit of news I saw this morning. Nice of CoCT to be proactive:

Cape Town Implements Festive Tourism Safety Operation The City of Cape Town is launching its most extensive festive tourism safety operation, deploying a special Tourism Unit to popular areas, including Table Mountain National Park and the CBD. The safety initiative involves over 4,000 uniformed enforcement and emergency personnel, partnerships with SAPS, SANParks, CIDs, and neighborhood watches, and features safety technology investments like drones, dashcams, and CCTV, amounting to R860 million over three years.

one month in January will be super hard seems like.
it took for me 2 weeks to find a good option for 5 months - just messaging basically ALL airbnb listings in the city, proposing a normal +20% monthly rate.
To get a full month at a time in desirable locations and airbnbs for Dec - March, I booked back in June(!), and even then nothing that I wanted was available for a full month until mid-January, so am bouncing around for first month. Not cheap though
Bummer, thanks for the info!

Hey!
Im a digital nomad from Sweden who just arrived in Cape town from a couple of months in Costa Rica and 1 year in Bali. Will stay here for a while and LOVE to connect to other nomads around town.
Im a TV producer and content creator turned online business coach and just travelling the world for the last two years, exploring online biz and life outside the 9-5 bubble.
Love to connect and meet up โค๏ธ
Hey! :) It's our first weekend in Cape Town, and we were wondering what the best way(s) to get to the popular beginner surf beaches like Muizenberg are. Are there any "Surf Buses"/group transport for surfers? Is the normal public transport/bus system safe to use? Or does everyone just take an Uber?
We'd appreciate any recommendations! โ˜บ๏ธ

As far as I know, thereโ€™s no Co working spaces in Sea Point. There is the Neighborgood in Green Point but Iโ€™ve never been. All the co workings seem concentrated around V&A and CBD, with a few toward gardens around Kloof.
kks 19d
Iโ€™m probably gonna bite the bullet of a daily commute and grab a co working in CBD for the next month - but thatโ€™s a me productivity problem ๐Ÿ˜…
bolt it! bolt is slightly cheaper (
Really appreciate your comments U1G3Q1CBZ. If you do decide on to get a co-working would you be able to give me a shout about if it's good ๐Ÿ‘

This week Iโ€™ll deffo be at WeWork for a day on Thursday. Wednesday Iโ€™ll deffo go to Workshop17 at V&A.
I actually passed some stuff this weekend. Trying to dig it up.
I canโ€™t find it. Basically I walked from Two Oceans aquarium into Sea Point along Main. I remember a coffee shop that _seemed_ to have an emphasis on working. No Weworks or similar though if youโ€™re looking for an office space.

Haven't confirmed whether this is reliable yet, but you can try property24.com|property24.com and filter by monthly rental & pre-furnished.
kyleza 19d
From what area?

Would not recommend using the local bus system or trains, not that safe.

I've heard MyCiti buses are a bit safer, but never used them.

Best would be hire a car/minibus or Uber.
kyleza 19d
When using property24 just make sure that it is for monthly when enquiring, most agents list under monthly "by mistake", when they actually are only looking for yearly.

Have found a couple of legit month-to-month properties at Harbour Arch, a new development in the Foreshore, you could search for it as many units are going for monthly rental - although not all are furnished.
MyCiti doesn't run to Muizenberg, best and safest bet is Uber.
We got any React or website devs hanging out here in Cape Town? (Either living or nomading)
Also, for those just arriving, we have a meetup planned tomorrow evening. Pls RSVP if youโ€™re thinking of joining. ๐Ÿ‘‰ nomadlist.com/meetups#a698205987e4de29ea4ab2f71d22ac33
For those attending the meetup tonight, I put it as 5pm because thatโ€™s when the market opens (5-9pm). I donโ€™t anticipate many of those that are working to be there for 5.

If you DID plan to be there for 5, let me know otherwise iโ€™ll match the person who plans to be there the earliest.
Thank you all for the recommendations! Much appreciated! :)
My girlfriend and another friend are already there, so they'll be happy to meet you whenever you arrive! :)

Really fun meetup last night guys. Met some lovely people and the night market was great! Will have to have a face off against Old Biscuit Mill some time.
