Hello! Does anyone know where I can possibly get a Yellow Fever vaccine in Istanbul or even Ankara? I'm flying to Tanzania after Turkey and it seems to be a requirement. I am not Turkish btw
I went to Tanzania a couple of years ago and didnโ€™t need one. I think if youโ€™re coming from a region that has yellow fever you do - otherwise you should be fine without it?
vtdpmgjbp Could you expand on what do you mean a little? Iโ€™m interested in your perspective. One day in Ankara and so far itโ€™s quite Turkish. No hawkers on the streets of ร‡ankaya trying to scam or upsell me.

okay - weird question, but is the normal state of bedding in Antalya just a bottom sheet and a lightweight semi-scratchy cotton blanket? no top sheet or duvet? ๐Ÿ˜„
nightfury 1mo
๐Ÿ›ฌ khoiebuhkza just arrived in ๐Ÿ– Istanbul, #turkey
Huh. In Ankara right now. Bedding is scratchy. Cotton blanket, bleh top sheet, bottom sheet. I havenโ€™t been to Antalya.
I asked around - apparently totally normal to have just a thin blanket and no top sheet here because itโ€™s usually so hot!
elemilion 1mo
Unfortunately a friend of mine arrived there last week and they asked for a yellow fever vaccine certificate so Iโ€™ll need it for sure

I heard similar stories from _some_ hosts in Southeast Asia (can't remember where exactly, since it was in 2017) who, I believe, wanted to save some money. Fine (even if affordable) accomodation options always offered a regular soft blanket though, so I could put it between my legs and sleep comfy (โ—•โ€ฟโ—•)

In Antalya, in winter, it seems to be below 10 ยฐC in winter (at night). In Thailand, it's ~25 ยฐC, and, anyways, the most of the hosts provided the blanked without any initiative from my side ๐Ÿ™‚

maucqdebkfkur hey just a thanks for recommending this area , absolutely right up my alley upscale but not pretentious manufactured, quiet but walkable to tons of cafes and just a great feel โ€ฆappreciate it very much
nightfury 28d
Iโ€™m a block away from the aptartman 18 building if your into architecture at all
Awesome, glad you like it! The rest of Istanbul has become an Arab Las Vegas so I try to avoid it unless I have tourist friends in town ๐Ÿ™‚
ethan_j 27d
Anybody in Izmir now? How is the winter there? Cold like europe?
nightfury 27d
Yea have to agree , but Iโ€™m like that most places. I went through Taksim once and that will prob be the last time I ever doโ€ฆsucks the Airbnb inventory is so thin over here swung 10 days at one not much left so May have to venture out anyways
nightfury 27d
Everyone here ok ?
nightfury 27d
Anyone in Taksim area today after what happened
Iโ€™m down in Kas thankfully, but had booked an Airbnb for next week just off Istiklal. Might be rethinking that plan ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
nightfury 26d
Yea , not worth it tourist areas never are โ€ฆI broke my own rule and walked it yesterday , no more ,Iโ€™m gonna stay over here on Asian side for quite awhile still too close for comfort
Is it just me, or is twitter and FB blocked now?
oudmane 26d
Yes, it's blocked
nightfury 26d
Yea they shut it down after the attack earlier , have to VPN to get out
Yea, IST always been a stopping point for people so inventory is constantly thin. Maybe โ€˜terrorismโ€™ will keep people away for a bitโ€ฆ

Honestly , just be smart everything here is operating as normal. I personally am avoiding tourist area but thatโ€™s my rule of thumb for most places anyways. As for tips just being a jacket and enjoy the food

learn a bit of turkish like โ€œne kadar?โ€ and โ€œyok yokโ€, and donโ€™t get ripped off by taxi drivers :joy:
oh and only drink bottled water.
maratr 21d
Thinking about it rationally, without emotions, the chances of it happening again so soon after are very close to zero. In fact, it's much safer at the moment than usual since the security has been increased a lot.

Overall, your chances of ending up a victim of a terrorist attack are about 1 in 20 million. It's way more dangerous to just drive on the road to and from Kas :grinning:. Or any road, for that matter.
maratr 21d
Just trying to make you feel better and give some perspective. People tend to really overestimate that dangers of things like a terrorist attack, mass shootings or flying while greatly underestimating the dangers of things we're used to doing every day. Being in a car is my far the most dangerous thing we do, statistically speaking.
maratr 21d
I recommend using VPN at all times here. I only turn it off when I have to use a Turkish site that doesn't allow traffic from outside of Turkey.
maratr 21d
Is anyone currently in Antalya?
Thanks :) Iโ€™m staying in Taksim before I fly out next week, so hoping itโ€™s not too crazy back there

Hey 871351701079203920
We are in Izmir (particularly in Bayrakli area) but with a packed schedule
Are you still in Izmir?
Hey everyone! I bought a Pttcell simcard and tried to get a tax number. I fullfilled all the data and, apparently, the web page answers me:

โ€ข your identity and passport information could not be verified (blah-blah, go to a tax office nearby)
Did anyone bumped into it?
chingis 12d
If you have โ€œiโ€ letters in your name itโ€™s possible that you should use Turkish โ€œฤฐโ€ instead of โ€œIโ€
I didn't get. Should I use i/ฤฐ or should I use I/ฤฑ? I actually tried use lowercased latin 'i'. I also tried to use 'i' (small) from Turkish keyboard =/
I'm also not sure about the timeline. I bought a sim card just today, so, probably, I have to wait for some time (like 1-2 days)? ๐Ÿ˜•
Also, I wonder, if anything changes because of Pttcell ('postal' simcard), because my friend has Turkcell and he's fine with it ๐Ÿ™‚
chingis 12d
Do you have i in your name?
Yep ๐Ÿ™‚ But my friend โ€” either
My friend's name Viktor and my name is Viacheslav
chingis 12d
My name is Chingis, uppercase CHINGIS but they put it like CHฤฐNGฤฐS
Yep. It's mine case as well. So I should keep it with 'ฤฐ'?
chingis 12d
So it would be VฤฐKTOR
Yep. It seems, we did everything this way ๐Ÿ™‚
I also checked my address ๐Ÿ™‚
chingis 12d
man-shruggingskin-tone-2
Yet, still! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It doesn't let me legalize! ๐Ÿ™‚
Anyways, thanks a lot for the answers! Let's wait for some time and see how it's going to end up ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks a lot!
Ow, btw, how do I call from Pttcell to Turkcell?
cc U03HHJ7Q5HQbr />
โ€ข It seems, that I bought one tariff (a free bonus month) โ€” I couldn't make calls.
โ€ข then I bought some paid tariff for ~170 TRY. And I, still, have 'call failed'
chingis 12d
Just buy turkcell for 300 TL
Though stuff in the postal office shown me, that it's possible to call other pttcell-numbers. Is it normal?
omtquqfcs but then I can't call pttcells pals, no?
chingis 12d
I donโ€™t know anything about pttcell
maratr 11d
Where's the best place to buy a MacBook charger that's not going to kill it? Official Apple store?
maratr 11d
Hmm... Haven't used that one. Mine is Turk Telekom and works without any issues. Can add money to it online (using Chrome's translation as their site is only in Turkish) or at any Turk Telekom office.

Everyone I met in Ankara shared the opinion Istanbul is taxi hell. Iโ€™m glad this doesnโ€™t seem to be a thing in the rest of the country.
I have to unfortunately agree with that! Taxi drivers everywhere else weโ€™ve been in the country were genuinely lovely and helpful, and even gave us back more change than the meter said sometimes. How are you enjoying Izmir? Are you going to Ephesus as well?

Day one here has treated me well. I like the bakeries everywhere with food that is at least sort of nourishing. Iโ€™m wondering where the other anglophiles are, I thought this was a nomad spot. No specific plans for other trips in the next month or two.
Blast em
Ephesus is an easy a day trip if you get bored - you can jump on the train in Izmir and be there in 1.5 hours - well worth it if you like historical sites. We didnโ€™t see any other English speaking people either and we were there for a week! I suspect we picked the wrong area to stay in tho ๐Ÿ˜„

my advice use black taxis minivan (more expensive of course) and once you find a honest one, write down his number. you'll call him directly afterwards. that's what I do.
