Sofia doesn’t have a ton of laptop-type cafes, but a great exception is Barista Coffee and More. The Greenwich bookstore/ cafe on Vitosha is also not bad. And if you like arty tea houses, two great places are Tea House on ul. Georgi Benkovski (a bit pricey but cozy atmosphere, some people on laptops, good food) and Veda House, which has a great Indian vibe and veg food – you can sit on cushions on the floor or at tables.
There are coffee shops beyond this on Vitosha, and a couple of Costa Coffee cafes that are fine for a little working but the above were my favorites.
Thanks for the reply!
Beyond those, looks like there’s some kind of coworking space around the corner from fabrika daga and searching on foursquare found several promising cafes I’ll check out this week. I’ll be sure to post here with what I’ve liked after I’ve had time to get to know the city a bit, too.
Hi all, my husband and I have been living in Bulgaria for the past month and were hoping to travel to Greece next. Have any UK nationals entered Greece lately? I believe that anyone entering Greece requires a negative COVID test 72 hours before travel - is this what they are requiring at the borders please? (Reason we ask is for Bulgaria we filled out forms but weren't asked for them) Thanks.
Hi from Greece,
This is what is currently effective:
Passengers of flights from Bulgaria, Romania, UAE, Malta, Belgium, Spain, Albania, North Macedonia and Hungary (as of September 16, 2020 until October 12, 2020) from Czech Republic (as of September 28, 2020) and Poland (as of October 3, 2020) to Greece will be required to have a negative molecular test result (PCR) for COVID-19, performed up to 72 hours before their entry to Greece.
I see that there are a whopping 200 nomads in Bansko, Bulgaria. I’m in Sofia, but aside from Bansko being cheap, I get the feeling that it’s a retirement centre in the summer time. I saw a few Youtube vids but it looks dead. What’s the draw to Bansko right now? Is there nightlife, or is it just a place to go hiking? Are there decent work cafe’s? Is it a decent place for singles?
Since it’s a hotspot I’d love to see some reviews on the page.
Thanks!
I tell you why, a friend Matthias is running a coliving space there called Coworking Bansko, and as they’ll throw a big party next year, the nomad scene is growing there. That’s actually when I’m gonna see the place for the first time, and I can give you my official review
It’s a mega cheap place, that’s why. It’s probably on a par with Thailand for costs.
If you want to hunker down and just work, then it’s a good place! There is 24/7 coworking and a good community of people there. I was there in September and it was a lot of fun. As it’s a small community you do end up doing lots of things together as everyone is in the same boat.
That said, the nightlife is basically a couple of ok bars and it’s not a place to jump on Tinder. Good for working, not a party town basically.
It’s mostly REALLy cheap to live, and in the winter it’s good for skiing etc. The 200 number is extrapolated from the 8 people checked in on Nomad List, so not necessarily completely accurate. But it is exceptional that there’s 8 people from Nomad List in a place like Bansko. I wonder why too!
Yeah, you either hike, go to the spa, or just save money. Nothing else left to do, during the summer.
Hmm, sounds boooooooring. Why are 200 nomads there? Because it’s easy to find an apartment for $150?
Hey,
I’m looking for a remote accounting and company admin office in Bulgaria for handling a limited company fully remotely with 1-2 invoices per month max.
If you happen to know any, let me know.
Thank you!
Are you interested in setting up the company in Bulgaria or set up somewhere else and just use Bulgaria as back office to take advantage of the lower costs? If you set up shop in Bulgaria the obvious advantage is the low tax (10% corporate tax and 5% on dividends!) and access to EU market. A disadvantage of sorts will be that you will need to come here more to have your board meetings etc as you will need some sort of physical presence. I run a cloud based accounting practice with most of my clients’ companies based in UK, however I spent most of my time in Bulgaria and find it a good place to base a distributed business.
Hi all. In view of the interest, I checked with my accountant and they agreed to publish their email address here.
Please feel free to contact Veda Accounting directly at: [email protected]
I’ll send you a private message with the details of my accountant, I think they can help you.
Thanx a lot. I will check that out.
Just out of curiousity. What makes you choose Bulgaria over other Estonia for example (besides the smaller taxes)?
Gustav

This year I would to work for a few months in a different location taking my partner with me. I’m calling it a working holiday. Bulgaria is the place I’m thinking of starting this “trend” I would like to do. I have read a lot of other peoples thoughts of it and I know a guy who I sort of worked with, He currently works around the world.
My question is as I am a British WordPress developer will I need a work visa or anything? All my work will be with clients back home. I’m fully booked up with projects for around 6 months - it grows each week.
Will my partner need any visa?
I have been looking at places to stay and the thought of working on a nice sunny balcony overlooking the sea really make me feel good.
Hi Jason,
As far as I’m aware, as a member of the EU (British citizen), you have freedom of movement across all member states (Bulgaria being one of them). Technically you should register your arrival with an embassy or council, but that’s more of a formality.
This is from wikipedia:
The free movement of persons means that EU citizens can move freely between member states to live, work, study or retire in another country. This required the lowering of administrative formalities and recognition of professional qualifications of other states.
Hope that helps and happy travels!
I’ve spent a lot of time in Bulgaria. My 2¢:
HAVE FUN, Bulgaria is amazing!
I second Plovdiv! I am thinking I will spend my summer there. It’s a great little city!
If you are visiting Bulgaria in the summer, you will prefer some smaller city/village, since the big ones are too ‘touristy’ in the holiday season.
If you are looking for a cool city not at the sea - definitely Plovdiv.
Hello!
As I understand, UK citizens are not Schengen but can work and live freely without registration in other EU states, [up to 90 days][1].
And although Bulgaria is not Schengen, they now have to follow the Schengen visa-issuing rules. Bulgaria is great. Of course double check but, you should be good-to-go!
Good luck!

@Andrew_F_Shaker thanks buddy! I will take a few months to plan this, hoping ni the UK summer (just before).
I thought best to try it in the EU first.

Based on Sofia's cost of living, here's selected remote jobs that would cover your costs:
Spent a week here during the summer. It's extremely affordable and Coworking Bansko does a great job at getting people together. Surrounded by awesome nature. Restaurants are okay. If you are into skiing/snowboarding, it can be the ultimate place for you during the winter. Otherwise, Bansko might get boring quickly, but it's great if you want to optimize for cost of living and still have plenty of nomands around you, while staying in Europe.

I find Parisians are actually very patient and warm if you at least attempt to speak French; in my experience, most people who complain that they're rude are the ones making zero effort to speak the language. Expensive though and not very easy to meet other nomads.

The historical center is cute, but also majestic and luxurious. You feel the culture at every step. British people are really kind and welcoming! Plus, more than just one, you can enjoy TWO skylines 😍 so many skyscrapers, nothing beats its collection in Europe.

There's many reasons why I think that: 1) it already has somewhat of a startup/tech scene because of the annual Web Summit conference 2) which means internet is fast, and there's lots of meetups and it's easy to make friends 3) it's relatively affordable for foreigners compared to Spain and the rest of Europe 4) Portuguese people are super friendly, a lot more friendly than in the rest of the Mediterranean and Europe 5) Lisbon is ideal to go on day/w

It is still great and you can find really cheap apartments (300-400$) and restaurants (2-3$ for a main). Wouldn't recommend staying there during the burning season. The best area is Nimman, but it's also the most expensive. You can stay in the old city that's very nice but that gets noisy during the weekend for the night markets. Last but not least, very safe city. All in all would go back in a heartbeat.

Londoners are quite internationally and ethnically diverse, and seemingly better educated and more intellectual than New Yorkers in aggregate. The city very clean with a stunning mix of modern and historic architecture, and arguably has Europe's best public transit in terms of signage, availability, cleanliness and general efficiency. Meanw

Just remember this, people working at supermarkets make 2 usd/per hour. If you want to live like a local, then you can save a lot of money. If you don't mind a 5-10 minute walk from the BTS, then you can easily get a one bedroom apartment for 300 USD per month, in a high class condo, plus with free golf cart ser
