I spent two months in Arequipa and loved most of it! Lovely people and a lot of nature around. The beautiful Colca Canyon is near, where you can also see the Andean Condor or book multiple-day hiking tours. It is close to Puno which you should visit as well and it's easy to go to Cusco from here, to see the famous Macchu Picchu. Havana is great for a vacation, not for remote work. One of the best thing here is the atmosphere - it means people, music, fun, nightlife. BUT the situation with food is very complicated, is hard to find literally anything, there are queues everywhere. The internet is expensive (2.5 GB of LTE for 8 dollars) and very unstable. If you don't need so much internet to your work and if you are patient enough, you can enjoy Havana as it is really interesting and unique city.

I live here and I would like to comment on some things that might be different from what you expect: - Walkability: Definitely not great, the city is huge, there are neighborhood where is safe to walk, with interesting stuff to do, but this isn't the case on most places far from west zone (Pinheiros and Vila Madalena) and Paulista avenue. Playa Del Carmen is a super touristy beach town and the catch is, the beach is always full of seaweed, so if you expect to swim in it, have fun. People are obsessed with American living way. Everything is in Malls, from store to restaurants. You will need a car or taxi to get there. Renting apartments will be extremely complicated as you will need to show your income, paid taxes, etc. You can always use Airbnb, but you will pay 3-4 times more then what is worth. Everything is overpriced for what you will get. Food in restaurants is 5/10, if you will buy in stores, expect most of it imported from Europe, USA and other countries. Fun facto

Very underrated. Had a great time staying in La Carolina. I have friends who have been living there for 3+ years and can confirm safety has gotten a bit worse but it's still reasonable. Prices are affordable and there's many hiking spots within 1-3 hours.

Strongly agree that this is an underrated city! If you want to buckle down and get some work done, it's a great place to be. Folks here are a bit more serious and business minded, and it comes with generally good internet and functioning services around the city. I really enjoyed my first week here, but as I got to know more locals and heard their stories, I was disturbed at the security situation. Almost everyone I met has horror stories about being robbed at gunpoint, robbed by the police, and in one case even drugged and robbed by a taxi driver. It's not even safe to walk a short distance at night (locals told me to just take Uber). I spent 4 months working here during summertime. It's one of the best summers I have ever had in my life. The city is just amazing and offers dozens of outdoor activities. There are so many different places such as parks, lakes, hills, mountains, beaches, etc. Also, you can feel the Californication vibe on every step. I lived in Hollywood and I would avoid this place at any cost. It's just too overrated and won't meet your expectations. Hollywood (esp. West Hollywood) is a big pile of dirtiness

I spent a month here in January. It's beautiful, and there are plenty of touristy things to do, however the city is very expensive. There are plenty of places to shop, which is the main reason why I went. There are also plenty of WeWorks scattered across the city if you need somewhere consistent to work. The people weren't rude to me, but that's because I always greet people in French before asking for help or information, so to avoid rudeness, I'd suggest learning basic greetings and how to ask

A top city. Everything works, beautiful greenery (hehe), cycling everywhere, happy people, great nightlife... Lots to love about. For nomads? Not a chance. Price of housing is outrageous, and the city is expensive af. They charge you 4.5-5 eur for a capuccino, completely shameless. An hour of public transport is 3 euros. I could go on and on. I'd love to live there, but it's not worth it.

I cannot help but agree with the review from the person before me. I'm finishing my 3 weeks trip here, and something feels off. Like that person put it rightly, everything is for sale, and nothing has value. There is no soul to this city and its people, locals or otherwise. Something is wrong here.
