Do you have a system for how you plan your next location?

by @mitch_dina3yr  | 3 comments

It seems to be taking me days to plan my next trip. Its so complicated and seems to be a domino affect. Example: Iโ€™m in Dubrovnik and want to go to Bari, Italy next because it is close, and I can get there by ferry, (so not using so much carbon,) but the ferry only starts running in April and 90-day visa is up on March 15, so I need to move on. Cheapest flight out is to Rome, but Rome can be pricey and Iโ€™m more of a small town person, so I go looking for beautiful small towns in Italy, a BIG research project. Then how to get there?.. oy! I need a system, please!

I hear ya, it does take a long time to plan when you have so many options. It sounds like you need a few more criteria to narrow the search (what else interests you aside from small towns?). Just glancing at the map, you could head to Durrรซs to reset the visa clock in Albania, then head to Bari on the ferry from there. But, of course it depends on what your priorities areโ€ฆ

I got so irritated with this planning problem I started building my own tool last year (tho @lriccisโ€™s system is pretty great). Itโ€™s still super basic, but youโ€™re welcome to use it if itโ€™s helpful - lets you save ideas on a map with notes (so you can skip the spreadsheet or Trello boards). Itโ€™s here: wandamaps-fe.herokuapp. com

Good luck! Nice part of the world to have in front of you

@lricci3yr

Hereโ€™s our system, such as it is:
We stay open to suggestions and invitations, but

  1. we keep a board on Trello. com of ideas. Each continent in a column, each country is a card, and inside we paste links to articles, or notes about what cities we may want to visit.
  2. I have ScottsCheapFlights. com set up with cities we will visit so that I get notices when fare deals pop up there. Often that triggers a flight, which we research on our Trello board for where to head from that landing. And invitations may also trigger a trip to a specific place and date, and we fill in around that from Trello, with nearby places.
  3. When we have a specific destination, we run it through Inspirock. com to see what we might want to see while there. We spend a good deal of time tweaking the itinerary.
  4. Filling the gap between destinations, we use Rome2Rio. com to figure out the options for travel from one city to another. Trains are covered in the rail website: Seat61. com

I suggest to decide in the last moment. For me its hard to plan ahead, and it happaned to me couple of times that i didnt show up for flights ):
So probably you know better what you want now, than in some days or months

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio4mo 3 months ago | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife5mo 4 months ago | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo5mo 4 months ago | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info1325mo 4 months ago | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara5mo 5 months ago | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Is anyone travelling right now?

by @viktor6mo 5 months ago | 3 comments

Winter is coming and Iโ€™m feeling the ache of travelling after being stuck in the same place since the Pandemic started. Wondering if anyone is travelling right now? If so, where are you currently located and how is the situation where you are?

Does your freelance rate fluctuate per location?

by @jasonmwomack6yr 5 years ago | 3 comments

I am a web developer and content writer. As of right now , I reside in Atlanta, Georgia . My plan is to move abroad soon. At this point , I am not sure where to set up my home base . Anyways , my real question is about rates. How do web developers decide the most suitable charging rate ? Letโ€™s say a client is in need of a full website and e-commerce platform. That client resides in Paris , but another client in a low income country wants the same service. Does your charging rate depend on the clientโ€™s location ? That was a hypothetical situation. I am a new to this stuff! I do not have any clients yet .
