Hi there - I’m planning a coding retreat with my two cofounders somewhere in Thailand or Vietnam for a month.

Are there any nice beach towns outside of Phuket in Thailand that have fast internet and are relatively cheap in Thailand?

Hey- I noticed your question because I too am planning a retreat in Thailand…I’m still trying to figure out the best spot too- but we are looking at either Koh Lanta (which people have told me about a great coworking space called KoHub) or Krabi Ao Nang. Personally, I’ve been to Koh Tao (the seemingly most popular island for diving, and therefore is very laid back and has a nice beach) and Koh Phangan (party island on one side, and relaxed, health/yoga focused kind of retreats on the other sides). I’m guessing that the internet will be about the same (should be decent) at all of these places as they are popular destinations with many hotels/cafes/restaurants/etc.

I just spent a couple of days in Ao Nang. On the beach front, tones of cafes / bars where Internet was no issue.
However I struggled with power sockets in sensible positions.
They’re not really geared up for the public to use the power sockets, so you’ll be in some back corner somewhere or have to unplug a big fan.
If you only need a couple of hours work stints on battery only though, you’ll be fine there.

I lived in Srithanu on the west coast of Koh Phangan and I had 1 MB/sec Internet that was fast enough to do anything I wanted to do. It’s a great spot, lots of chilled out exapts into meditation and yoga.

Hi,
I would recommend you to check out Koh Lanta, Krabi. Great beaches, perfect place for work/life balance. Depending on which season you plan to come in, there are cons and pros of both.
Check out the Koh Lanta website http://lanta.info/
And KoHub - tropical coworking space http://kohub.org/
