Are there comparable companies like Iglu in Thailand?

in Thailand by @stiensf 6yr  | 2 comments

You can look up the Iglu company in Thailand. It is a legal way of working in Thailand with a work permit for digital nomads. Are there other companies in Thailand offering work permits for digital nomads? They charge you 30% of your salary, which is a lot. Are there other companies charging less than Iglu or have a different pricing scheme?

@stiensf @voskovek I work through iglu.

They do take 30% of the income (if you find your own customers) but that includes the taxes. If I did not misunderstand, in Thailand the progressive tax rate rapidly climbs to 30%. So they take care of your visa, help with contractual concerns, completely take care of your local taxes, assist with the local regulations (like 90 day police report) for:
30% - your taxes (which is probably not too far from 30% if you earn reasonable rates, and if you are not, please stop price dumping  )

If I misunderstood in any way, please enlighten me. I am new to this.

@voskovek 6yr

Itโ€™s not really 30% of your entire salary. As far as Iโ€™m concerned, you can bill only the minimum amount of u$2500 through them and pay 30% of that โ€œsalaryโ€. It is expensive though if your salary is u$2500 or around that figureโ€ฆ

Best way to create a company as web dev freelancer to work with French companies

by @faby 5yr 5 years ago  | 4 comments

Iโ€™m French and Iโ€™m leaving Paris and my current full time job. In a few month, Iโ€™ll move to Bali to be a fresh digital nomad in web development. I learn about the different possibilities to create my own business and I would have feedbacks. whatโ€™s the best ? Iโ€™ve an opportunity to work with my actual french company as a freelancer, remotly, on specific missions.
But I donโ€™t know If I have to create my company in France to continue working with them or maybe one in Singapour like with sleek.sg. I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s it easy to work with a french company with a singapore company. I then plan to find other missions with fewer time differences, (Australia โ€ฆ)

If someone could help me  thanks!

Any nomads working for the big 5 tech companies?

by @andrewkennedy 7yr 7 years ago  | 13 comments

I currently work at one of the big 5 tech companies (Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon), at the main campus as a software engineer. I was wondering if any nomads work remotely for said companies and how you came to that arrangement. Working for myself or moving to a smaller company that has mostly remote work seems less desirable than maintaining access to all the resources I have internal to my company.

Which shots and visas do I need to visit Thailand?

in Thailand by @aspkin 7yr 7 years ago  | 7 comments

Iโ€™m wanting to travel to Thailand in February and Iโ€™m a little overwhelmed with travel arraignments (I have only left the US once) and what Iโ€™m going to do once Iโ€™m there.

So far Iโ€™m wanting to be in Thailand for a month. It looks like Iโ€™m going to need shots: Hepatitis A and B and typhoid. I can take care of that no worries.

I was looking into the Visa requirements, it looks like I can just arrive in Thailand and get a 30-day tourist visa?

As for housing I was thinking AirBnb. My goal while in Thailand is to work primarily. I have a project I need to wrap up and Iโ€™d like to do that in Thailand without a lot of distractions.

Now Iโ€™ve joined NomadList because it seems I can join up with others to Thailand? Looking at nomadtrips I have no idea how it worksโ€ฆ but that seems to be the place to link up with others? Or maybe Iโ€™m wrong. Iโ€™m looking at: https://nomadtrips.co/chiang-mai-thailand

Whatโ€™s the best way to communicate with this group about meet ups, etc?

Do you know Yoga places in Ko Phangan, Thailand?

in Thailand by @mirkatekelova 8yr 8 years ago  | 6 comments

Hi,
Iโ€™d like to have an idea about the costs of yoga classes in Ko Phangan. Iโ€™ve checked a few yoga studios websites, but canโ€™t find much infoโ€ฆ
Whatโ€™s a drop in class price and what e.g. a month membership. Iโ€™m interested in particular in the area around Beachhub.

Thanks!

What's the best places to work in Pai, Thailand?

in Thailand by @adrienbetweets 8yr 8 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone!
Iโ€™m searching for places to work from in Pai, i.e. cafes or restaurants.

I am looking for:

  • Quiet place - not full of customers nor just next to a road
  • Comfy seats
  • Regular height table - not breaking my back using my laptop
  • Open until at least until 18:30 - many places seem to close early in Pai
  • Good coffee or food would be great
  • Good WiFi is optional, I usually use my smartphone 3G hotspot

So many DN coming from Chiang Mai to escape the city life, I hope this thread will help a few of us stay in Pai a bit longer than usual

Schengen tourist visa - legal to work for home companies?

by @lefnire 8yr 8 years ago  | 33 comments

So I know itโ€™s illegal to work in Europe for European companies without a work visa / permit. Iโ€™m also aware of the Germany freelancer visa, which lets you work in Germany legally for 3 years (but Iโ€™m not stationing in Germany; I want to hop hop hop). I see many digital nomads programming on the road, making income from American companies on a Schengen tourist visa. Of course this seems fine, since itโ€™s brining American dollars into Europe. But is it legal? Has anyone had experiences / conversations with immigration, or seen this discussed anywhere online? My Google fu fails me here.

What are the options for mobile internet in Phuket, Thailand?

in Phuket , Thailand by @alejandrow 8yr 8 years ago  | 1 comment

Hi,

I will be traveling in Thailand from november to december and would like to know which internet option I should choose. I need to use internet for writing and research and also 1-2 skype calls a week.

I need whatโ€™s best in Krabi and Phuketโ€ฆ I already have an unlocked pocket Wi-Fi that allows both 3G and 4G, so I only need a Sim Card filled with internet. Unlimited data would be the best, but in reality I would be fine with around 10 GB if the speed is good.

So which options do I have and what are your experience?

Regards!

Where to do online shopping in Thailand?

in Thailand by @adrienbetweets 8yr 8 years ago  | 6 comments

Whatโ€™s up dreamers?

Do you have any recommendation on where to do online shopping in Thailand?

I just got an external screen & accessories from Lazada.co.th: the price was good & delivery of the screen (to Koh Lanta) took only 3 daysโ€ฆ! This was way beyond my expectations.

Any other tips (& shared experience) would be appreciated.

ps. created the same conversation on the DN Thailand facebook group if you prefer participating over there https://www.facebook.com/groups/1069582656437496/permalink/1075943859134709/

Do you know organizations that I can join to do volunteer work in Thailand?

in Thailand by @dgioulakis 8yr 8 years ago  | 7 comments

Iโ€™m expecting to make the transition to a nomadic lifestyle starting January. My first stops will be roughly three months across various areas of Thailand. Aside from my (9-5) remote work and exploring the region, Iโ€™m interested in doing some local volunteer and/or non-profit work.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of organizations which accept individuals looking to give their time and help out on the weekends? Iโ€™m going to start doing some searching but figured why not inquire here as well.

Thanks!

Does the 30 days extension on the Visa Exemption count against the 90 days in six months rule in Thailand?

in Thailand by @gui 8yr 8 years ago  | 1 comment

My fiancรฉe(who is British) is on her second 30 days visa exemption in Thailand. Weโ€™re considering getting the visa exemption extension for 30 days and staying longer.

Our only worry is: Does this mean we would hit 90 days in total? We need to return in March to fly home from Bangkok. We are worried weโ€™d be refused entry in March as they might count the visa exemption extension against us.

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers

Where do I get cheap plane tickets to go to Chiang Mai, Thailand?

in Chiang Mai , Thailand by @talberly 8yr 8 years ago  | 20 comments

Where do I get cheap plane tickets to go to Chiang Mai, Thailand? I would like to know if there is a site where the cost of the plane ticket was under $1,000. If it is offered at a price even lower, the better. I want to minimize expenses as much as possible. Iโ€™m curious to know the price of the flight ticket that digital nomads have purchased in the past and from which sites. Could you help me? Thank You.

Can I use a bus/train/boat ticket as a departure ticket to get a visa in Thailand?

in Thailand by @knocte 9yr 9 years ago  | 1 comment

So either if I choose the 30day-no-visa way, or the 60-day-visa which I have to apply for in the embassy, they require that I have a flight ticket to go back from Thailand, or a ticket to go into another country.

But butโ€ฆ I was thinking of getting out of the country with a different means of transportation, maybe bus/train/boat to go to Cambodia/Laos/Malaysia. Can I explain this to the authorities when they ask me for the 2nd flight ticket, so I donโ€™t need to buy a roundtrip/multi one?

Thanks in advance

How can a New Zealand citizen get a 1-year visa for Thailand?

in Thailand by @lucinda 9yr 9 years ago  | 7 comments

Hey!

I want to live in Chiang Mai (just like everyone else). Iโ€™m an NZ citizen and Iโ€™ve been staying in Malaysia the last year-ish on a tourist visa doing runs every 90 days. Immigration are giving me a hard time so I have to leave and Thailand is the place I want to be.

I would love some info from anyone especially NZerโ€™s about getting a 1 year multi entry visa to Thailand. I want to do this all myself and save on third party fees so please give me some advice, Iโ€™ve spent a few hours doing research but Iโ€™m still totally confused.

Thanks

What's your favorite places to live in Thailand?

in Thailand by @azurio 9yr 9 years ago  | 0 comments

As for my tastes: I was more fond of Ao Nang than Phuket, and generally enjoy a peaceful paradise non-urban vibe for living, but with people and things going on nearby. Considering 1-3 years, and just hope to hear about personal tastes and impressions. Thanks!

Can I work remotely for US companies as a non-US citizen?

by @int03e 9yr 9 years ago  | 3 comments

Hello, folks!
My name is Andry, Iโ€™m software developer from the Eastern Europe.

Iโ€™m trying switch to nomad-style lifestyle.

However, there is a problem: money. I definitely can work remote on sites like odesk/elance, and gain, say, $3000/month. Itโ€™s enough for living, but itโ€™s sounds not so good for my savings.
I assume, that Iโ€™d need some money after that crazy life for the cozy life. 401k, if you know, what I mean.

As I see, most of you, mates, are from 1st world countries, such as USA or Canada or Australia, etc. So, you do have a choice - work remotely for companies from your countries, or try to do your own business. May be freelance is an option too, but I donโ€™t see the way for me really to gain more than 3K on freelance. It requires really good manager skills, even more than software development skills.
I donโ€™t have passion for the second option, and wonder about the first one.

Say, I want to work for USA company remotely. Do the right work, gain the right salary (even $70.000/year except taxes), so Iโ€™ll be able to do some savings. Iโ€™m not USA citizen, and donโ€™t have a H1B visa. Any options on that remote contract?

Saw propositions on nomadsjobs.io. Itโ€™s definitely unclear for dudes like me. Some USA firm hires people, and yes, remote work is an option as they say in job description. Only for USA people however, I suppose?

Iโ€™m totally newbie with that, sorry if that is a stupid question.

P.S.
Sorry about my english, I feel ashamed, and I do my best to improve it asap. I do hope youโ€™ll understand me btw, I believe.
