Hi everybody. I feel like I have to share with you my story about this subject. ( sorry if I make any mistakes in grammar or spelling. English is not my mother tongue).
I was one of those people who were very anvilling to go to a psychologist. I always thought that thatโs for someone else, even though I had many reasons to contact one a decade ago. But then my life situation got very difficult. My husband was leaving me, at the same time I was trying to expend my business in EU and was under a lot of stress. I started sleeping very bad, had migraines, became very anxious and started wondering a lot about life.
During one of my long flights I met a person sitting next to me and after some time we started talking about this. He told me that he had also some problems, but then on one of his flight he met someone who gave him e-mail address of a psychologist who help him some time ago. He told me that he is very busy and does not take new people immediately because he likes to work with a few people, but to do the best he can, aka. prefers quality over quantity. He also told me that it was very memorable experience. I took the card with e-mail address and put it in my wallet thinking โyeah, he is going to tell me how life is beautiful and have to be strong and bla, bla, blaโฆโ
Anyway, after some time I had one of those very difficult days, and in the evening I thought that maybe I should give it a try. First I went to a psychologist close to my house in Boston, but we really didnโt click. Being very disappointed about this, I spoke to my friend about it, and she told me that the contact has to be good and full of trust between client and psychologist, and that that is the crucial component to success, so I decided not to go there again. A few days after that I remember that card in my wallet. I sent one e-mail to this psychologist asking him if we can meet, via skype preferably. He replayed next day. He told me that he started meeting people via skype since few months ago because he is aware that the world is changing and that he also has to adjust. I found this very sweet in some way. He also told me that it would be very preferable if we can meet few times ( especially the first time) in person. I couldnโt do that for the first time, but then, on my third trip I found out that I am just two hours away from him ( he was in the Netherlands at the time) and we had a personal meeting which was fantastic. I met him few more times in person after that ( great thing is that he is also traveling a lot, so he was also in my neighbourhood several times) , while majority of meeting were via skype. In my experience, progress is possible with the skype sessions too; it might go slower then with a personal session, but it is possible.
Now, after two years, I can tell you that, what started as constant complaining about my husband, became a great trip of self discovery and that I am more then happy that Iโve done it. Sometimes it wasnโt easy ( just as he told me - that sessions are not always necessary pleasant and that sometimes we need to face things I donโt want to face), but all together it was the best thing I ever done for myself. Now, we meet via skype from time to time, just when I need to clear my toughts a bit, and he is willing to do this, which I am happy about. He calls it โmental hygieneโ.
I feel much better today and i advice everybody to give it a try, even via skype. We live in a strange times, and we need all the help we can get.

My wife and I see a counselor sometimes, and the current one in Seattle we see offers Skype sessions. Havenโt tried it yet, so weโll see.
My g/f and I worked with a couples counselor for a while at home and talked about setting up continued Skype check-ins while traveling, but we could never quite get it together (time zone issues, not technical issues), and honestly we found we didnโt need to. Our counselor rocked and weโd built up the tools we needed to work through things without her. 
The only reason I do mention it here is I that I think itโd be way better to establish a relationship with a counselor in person and then maintain things via Skype, rather than to start via Skype.
Of course as I implied above is that I have no actual experience doing it via skype so take my suggestion with a grain of salt.

Itโs normal to need (professional) psychological support in big life transitions. Changing your life to travel and work from everywhere can be psychologically taxing depending on your personality.
I never thought Iโd have trouble with it but I did. I had particular problems in feeling โlostโ without any home. Itโs a weird feeling. I used a Skype psychologist in the Netherlands http://www.eye2eyepsychologen.nl and had 6 sessions and now I can deal with that a lot better.
The startup community needs to have less taboo for psychological support. Your brain is just like a muscle and sometimes if itโs stressed it needs some help to talk things through.
Best bet would be to get something in your home country thatโs covered by your healthcare plan.
Any thoughts on cultural biases or barriers when it comes to psychological treatment or counseling. My significant other and I had to endure some some serious stress being in a new relationship and moving abroad at the same time. We thought about seeing a relationship counselor in the Philippines but decided against it due to the cultural differences (Filipinos are primarily catholic and also donโt believe in divorce).

Any suggestions for seamlessly receiving SMS Verifications from US financial institutions and other sites while traveling internationally continuously? Wonโt keep my US Verizon account due to cost and currently plan to use local sims at each destination (T-Mobile and Project Fi are NOT an option as they terminate for continuous roaming). In summation, I wonโt have a US mobile account.
Unless Iโm missing something, which is very possible, this appears to be the single most complex issue Iโve encountered in my preparations, and one that no one addresses. I would greatly appreciate any possible solution that works 100% of the time. Canโt afford surprises in this regard. Many Thanks! Jack.
What is your ergonomic set-up while traveling?
I personally have an external keyboard, and am currently exploring getting a laptop stand, some lumbar support, and a trackball-mouse.
What do you use? How are you balancing health / portability?
On New Yearโs Day this year, I was refused entry to the UK due to not having proof of funds, an outward-bound plane ticket (I was road-tripping out with a friend via car) and not being able to prove that I had indeed canceled the lease on the apartment I had leased during a prior recent trip.
I havenโt had any entry issues to any of the several countries Iโve visited after, but now Iโm applying for a 462 visa (work and holiday) visa in Australia, and since Australia and the UK share an immigration info system, I want to make sure getting refused entry wonโt keep me from getting a visa. None of the issues that cropped up in the UK (the proof of funds, the plane ticket, and the apartment) will be an issue in Australia, as Iโve never traveled there before, donโt know anyone and will have proof of more than sufficient funds for the trip and an outbound plane ticket.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to make the approval process go as smoothly as possible?

This is something Iโve not really seen addressed anywhere much but, when you are staying somewhere medium term, say 1-6 months, what you do about cooking? I figure anything shorter than that and you can make do, while over 6 months you arenโt going to mind stocking a kitchen so much. But, for that medium term period, it feels like a waste to spend too much on pantry supplies and equipment but too long to get by on basics.
Anyway, Iโd love to know what other people in regards to cooking. Do you eat out for all your meals, have a few โgo toโ dishes that you can cook anywhere with minimal equipment (mine would be omelettes) or do you adjust to the local cuisine?

My husband and I have residency in the state of Tennessee in the USA and my in-laws collect our mail for us there. We only pass through Tennessee about once a year.

I do not want to be an โalarmistโ but today we had a recent major bombing at an airport & subway in Brussels. A few months back there was Paris. I am currently on my European part of this years trip and it is on my mind.
There are many places that are off the map for Digital Nomads and for good reason. Safety due to war or major crime. I am talking places like Syria, parts of Iraq, few islands in Philippines, a few province in Mexico, El Salvador, etc. But places that arenยดt historically unsafe do causes concern to people, specifically your back home family&friends.
As a traveler how do you deal with terrorism or major crime when it is around where you are visit? Also secondly how do you deal with at home messages from family members.

Iโm doing my research on nice places in SA/CA. Iโve been living in Argentina for the past 4 years and Iโve only been at the beach for 2 weeks (in Rio) almost 2 years ago. I know, itโs sad 
I want my next home to be close to the beach, and Iโve been hearing great things about Aruba. Iโm not planning on staying another 4 years at the new location, but at least a few months.
Has anyone lived and worked from there? Do they have fast and reliable internet? Is it affordable?
If not Aruba, which other places would you recommend to spend a few months close to the beach that are affordable and with high speed Wi-Fi?
Iโm thinking about staying in SA/CA because of the time zones. I work for an American company, so I think Iโd rather stay in a time zone thatโs not to far away from theirs.
Some other places that have crossed my mind are Guatemala City or Antigua, Quito, Costa Rica (although Iโve heard itโs expensive)โฆ
I still have a few months to think about it while I finish some paperwork in Buenos Aires, but Iโd like to leave around August/September.

Iโm debating whether to buy some things prior to leaving - a nice suitcase and/or backpack, noise cancelling headphones, a Kindle (Iโm an avid reader and would love to take several books with me - but love books and have never found the need to have a Kindle since I have lots of space at home for adding to my library), etc. My feeling is that these things would likely enhance my travels but are not strictly necessary, and if the nomad life turns out to not be to my liking then I mightโve wasted some money. Hello fellow nomads! How do you guys go about proving residence in a country if youโre always moving? European banks will continue to send yearly statements of holdings and earnings to your old tax jurisdiction (even if youโve legally left) until you prove (address/utility bill) residence in another country. Any experience with satisfying the banks in order to keep some financial privacy while being a nomad?
Almost got caught out very badly the other week and looking for advice.
Visa
30 day visa free entry. Went to check-in at the airport, staff wanted to see a departure ticket. Thankfully I had already booked a flight out (this is often not the case, Philippines are basically flight-only options though) however due to leaving Australia I had no SIM card in my phone. Thus no 3g, or access to the itinerary. It was with the same airline however they couldnโt look it up (given the complete lack of competence this probably is true). Thankfully the airport had wifi and I managed to eventually load up an email after some stressful minutes. A number of airports only have wifi near the gates not out in departures too. If I couldnโt load up the ticket she literally wasnโt going to let us on the flight. Wtf. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnamโฆ all places I have been, had no exit flight/transit booked because was going over land, and train/bus tickets in a lot of countries arenโt readily available online. None of them have ever cared.
Is this usual or was this chick just nuts? Of course when we arrived customs didnโt care at all, โwhen are you leaving, where to?โ and that was it. How many Australians exactly are smuggling themselves to live illegally in the Philippines, especially with only 7kg of luggage? Come onโฆ

We finally arrive Manila at 1am. Literally no ATM works. 3 different cards with 3 different banks, half a dozen ATMsโฆ nothing, all โerror communicatingโ/some generic message. By this stage we were attracting a fair bit of attention having wandered the airport trying every ATM, our only saving grace was $30 I still had in cash that I exchanged at a booth, which was enough to get a taxi to accommodation 5km away. Next morning found an ATM nearby, stomach full of nervesโฆ worked perfectly. We used 2x cards, both worked first go. Same bank as one of the airport ones. God knows why they didnโt work at the airport (well, insert a nothing ever works or is done properly in the Philippines joke here), however I havenโt read much about people carrying much cash. It seems like we should always have $100 - or more if an expensive country - in case this ever happens again? Even though I canโt think of why this even happened in the first place. All the money in the world wonโt help if you canโt get your hands on it

The feeling I get from a lot of nomads I talk to is that their time is very much their own-- no need to be โon callโ or super-responsive to clients. Iโm in a position of often needing to get back to clients quickly; checking email once a day really wonโt do. This causes a lot of stress if Iโm off the grid for more than a few hours. Would love to hear from others in this boat as to how they manage it.
I wasnโt exactly expecting to be in Thailand - so I have a winter coat, a few books, and more clothes than I need to travel.
I want to donate or give these things away while I am in Bangkok.
I figure if there is anyone in Bangkok traveling to a chilly place - I have a winter coat for you!

Itโs just occurred to me that I have mobile-based 2-factor auth for almost all of my critical online accounts.
Iโm about to head off from London through multiple countries, so not sure I can rely on my UK phone number to access those accounts.
Has anybody who uses 2-factor auth and regularly moves to different countries found a good solution to this?
Iโm not really happy to disable 2-factor as a solution, and so far Iโm thinking my best bet might be to set up a Skype number that I can then forward on to any mobile number Iโm using at the time.
