  • Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai has had a deep Buddhist influence running over the last 1,000 years and this can be felt in the helpfulness, patience and generosity of the Thai and long-term transplants you come across. The city has an active community scene (nomads, spiritual seekers, hikers, creatives), several mountains with hiking spots and waterfalls surrounding the city, over 20 water bodies inside the city -- many have cafes and walks around, several public parks, and over 13 national parks with campgrounds w

Warsaw, as a destination for digital nomads, presents a mixed bag of experiences. It's often praised for its affordability, good quality of life, and excellent infrastructure, including fast internet and walkable neighborhoodsใ€8โ€ sourceใ€‘ใ€7โ€ sourceใ€‘. However, it's also characterized by a bustling atmosphere, high traffic, and an ongoing political agenda that some find off-putting. Great city! Many places to work from. Many great companies - I think you could find some cofounders for startup. Great connections to mountains, many flight directions. Great food! You can have a lot of fun in the night or during the day. Many beach bars and vineyards around the city. It's the city students from other Polish cities migrate to because of cool factor. Great history.

  • Da Nang

I have spend a few days in Da Nang in January and its one of the only cities in Vietnam, I absolutely couldnt find aything positive about. It felt dead to me. Almost no people there and it feels like the city doesnt have a soul. I would even go so far to say the city is the only place in Asia that made me feel unformfortable. Cant recommend it. Furthermore i got a food poisoning there. So the overall experience wasnt good.

Canโ€™t recommend Ubud. Itโ€™s just the same overdeveloped and overpriced mentally isolated tourist trap that is Canggu, just a bit worse. If you have never been anywhere else, it might be okay for 2 weeks, but to any seasoned traveller itโ€™s a the type of place you dread.

  • Ho Chi Minh City

Saigon has things going for itโ€”great food, beautiful French architecture, interesting history, steady development, and nice enough people. But overall, the vibes are mediocre. Again, the locals are nice enough, though, as a Westerner, you're not going to feel as welcomed as you are in surrounding countries (I don't mean to sound entitled, that's an honest assessment). You just sort of exist; people stare at you and will be amused by you, but don't expect the celebrity treatment you get in othe

I'm Polish and I've been to Gdaล„sk a number of times over the course of the last 10 years. When I was younger and have seen and experienced less, I was very impressed by the old town. However, these days, after having seen most of Europe and some of the US, I can't help but feel that Gdansk's old town is small and everything that surrounds it has a distinct, post-communist feel, which I do not enjoy. I was there this summer (2022) and it felt like being in an amusement park, with many of the ap

Just spent three nights here. Tulum is a triangle: the ruins, the zona hotelera, and Tulum Pueblo. Zona Hotelera is expensive and far from services. Tulum Pueblo is ugly, noisy, and full of development. A boom town where everyone seems out to fleece the gringo. It's also an ecological disaster. Watch the Dark Side of Tulum. And think twice before swimming in some of the local cenotes: they're full of E Coli. The public beach in winter was nice. But this is a shitty place to work from, unless yo

Pros: Food carts, local microbrews, lots of outdoor activities within day trip range, high property values. Cons: trash everywhere, out of control crime, violent drug-addicted "houseless" everywhere, mediocre public schools, some of the highest taxes in the country, ineffective police force, antiquated inefficient form of city government, very high rents, passive aggressive culture.

  • New York City

New York is cool. Iโ€™ve visited multiple times to see my family throughout my life, and recently came back from my first post-COVID trip there. Yes, itโ€™s very expensive โ€” but there is no city on earth thatโ€™s more captivating in my opinion. I used to think that New Yorkers were smug by claiming that NYC was better than everywhere else, but now I totally get it lol.
