Making way to Athens, Greece for the Spring season. I'll be working from The Cube in the center of Athens. Also, hope to spend a month in Chania, Crete during this trip. Will update with details as itinerary firms up. If anyone is interested in long-term commitment to Athens, I'd love to connect. My wife and I are currently shopping for real estate in Athens and hoping to make a move on a purchase sometime in early 2024, after figuring out what neighborhood we want to live in and other due diligence related to tax implications which we'll be working through this year. |

I've been in Austin since September, preparing my home there for short-term/monthly rental, after being out of the US for about six years (Mostly in Singapore, India and Greece). I miss the Trader Joe's and Town Lake trail the most. I'm currently preparing to make my way to Athens, Greece for the Spring season. If you're interested in learning more about the 3br/2ba Nomad house in South Austin that I'll be making available while I'm out of country, check-out the photos and dm me Photos: https://ggle.io/5XQx |

This city is not for everyone, if you like shopping malls and big crowded cities it is for you. It may be cheap but if you want to live in a good location with swimming pool, go to nice rooftops and restaurants, use taxis then it is similar cost to western countries. In many areas there are no sidewalks, big and dangerous traffic all the time, pollution, taxis do not want to go with meter, it can get really hot. Definitely try to live by the metro. Many foreigners, mostly friendly people, cheap

Athens is a fantastic city. Locals are friendly and food is fantastic. There isn't a huge amount to do, but for a short stay it's definitely worth the visit.

I personally think it's a little overrated, but a cool place to visit nonetheless. The architecture is beautiful, and there are lots of good places to eat. I don't like the main area of the canals in the city centre; it smells of weed and is often packed. However, the outer edges - such as the Jordaan district - are less busy and more interesting in my opinion. One thing that surprised me is how much trash was o

But it's beautiful area once you get away from the highways. A good tech scene. Not too expensive (~$2100 for a nice 2 bedroom apt) for the U.S. Has wineries and breweries galore. Not a great place if you are a recovering alcoholic (!). Cons: extremely hot in the summer; reaches 110 F (43.3 C) in summer afternoons from June - September. Not very diverse. Highways are loud and obnoxious.

There seems to be a tacit rent floor that means you won't find a good deal on housing. A lot of people don't seem very invested in their interpersonal relationships here since their ties to the area are often transient.

Of course, nomads in their bubbles will rarely see it but do a simple google search of news related, there's been a huge uptick in violence over the past few years. I experienced it while living there. Personally really wouldn't recommend to people unless you like the idea of being in a city that is going to eventually become a warzone

At first I stayed at the Parijatha Gateway Hotel, Near Soap Factory Metro, which was ideal for my purposes. Transit & shopping was nearby, and there was a mall and good food. The Metro in BLR is VERY modern and smooth- be prepared to be patted down (women and men separately) to get into the station, and you can but a metrocard at the ticket window. But, it is a pain to get cash (spent a few hours every couple weeks trying Western Union after WU and never finding one with enough cash), and a lot of places don't take cards/the current exchange rate is a ripoff. However, BRING REPELLENT. The place is littered with mosquitos, and my partner and I both contracted dengue. He ended up in the hospital, and it was not a blast. The healthcare system is decent, but long wait times even in the nicest

The 'pandemic' changed many things -- the cost of course, but also the culture -- the freedom and liberty have been contained. The police presence and size of the state have grown -- definitely doesn't feel so relaxed anymore. It's also important to note here -- there is limited ambition. Most are looking for an easy, fun and peaceful life -- which is great, but if you are building something or running a business it can fee
