Hi,
Between 40โ€™000 and 50โ€™000 IDR per day, depending on how long you rent it for.

Around 50k/day if a short amount of time and 600k/month if longer term. A new scooter costs ~16m, so you can use that as a basline to think about costs.

Best Place in South East Asia to stay for 6 months+ (Tax purposes)

in Indonesia by @miklaskroager | 2d 2 days ago | 0 comments

We're looking for a country in south east asia that can function as our base, mainly for tax purposes. Meaning it will have to be a place where we can stay for the 183 days required without too much hassle.

We've been looking at Thailand, but have heard that it's very hard to do visa runs etc., so what other can you recommend? Indonesia looked like a good option, but the income rate is a flat 20% and very high for the region.

Experience with "Adobe Connect" in Bali/Ubud or Canggu?

in Canggu, Indonesia by @hg.weber_nomads | 3yr 3 years ago | 1 comment

Hello, is there anybody around with experience with โ€œAdobe Connectโ€ meetings?

We are thinking to move to Bali - Canggu or Ubud, however our business demands working with this Adobe platform. Our concern is if latency is good enough and connection stable to do the teaching job from Bali to European located Adobe Connect servers.

Thanks so much fore any hint on this.

You can test the connection quality with Adobe Connect from your location to different servers worldwide from this page - for Europe there is a UK-based server listed to test:

Thanks again!

Is Ubud Walkable?

in Ubud, Indonesia by @mementomoriblog | 4yr 3 years ago | 8 comments

Hello,

Currently living in Chiang Mai and loving it.

Iโ€™m trying to figure out where Iโ€™ll go once burning season hits in late Feb, as I donโ€™t want to be here then.

Iโ€™m definitely considering Bali - but I donโ€™t ride motorbikes, and I donโ€™t really want to learn if I can help it.

Is there anybody who has lived in Ubud and gotten around entirely by foot? If so, what was your experience like?

How is the quality of wifi & 3G in Amed, Bali?

in Amed, Indonesia by @adrienbetweets | 4yr 3 years ago | 3 comments

Hi all!

I am considering going for 1+ month in Amed (to get more into freediving).

I need to be able to make Skype calls & other work-related tasks. I need a speed equivalent to one allowing me to watch Youtube videos.

Ubud is way more connected in comparison, so I donโ€™t expect anything wonderful.

Wondering if anyone has done this before & if yes: what 3G
provider they used, or what cafe/restaurant/hotel had a good/reliable
enough wifi connection.

Note that I went to Amed last year & the 3G connection on the 2 providers I used at the time was terrible. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m asking for help.

Thanks in advance!

p.s. I also posted this question on travel.stackexchange.com/questions/82403/quality-of-wifis-3g-reception-in-amed-bali

What's the difference between Ubud and Canggu in Bali?

in Canggu, Indonesia by @edmoyse | 4yr 3 years ago | 4 comments

Hey nomads,

Iโ€™m hoping for some advice from people whoโ€™ve lived in Ubud or Canggu. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each place? If youโ€™ve lived in both, which did you prefer and why? (e.g. surfing vs yoga, or varying WiFi availability, or better accommodation, or number of nomads)

Thanks!

Looking for mid-term accomodation in Canggu (ยฑ3 months)

in Canggu, Indonesia by @tvrhe | 5yr 4 years ago | 11 comments

Hi,

any tips, suggestions? Itโ€™s for Jan-2015 through March-2015.

Iโ€™m ideally looking for a nomad house-style type of setup, in which 4 or more digital nomads all live together in a nice, modern villa. But Iโ€™m not sure if there are too many of those around in Canggu.

Otherwise a private room+bathroom or private apt. for around $600-800 will be fine (depending on the speed of the Internet).

Any help or tips are more than welcome : )

Can you create a foreign company and hire yourself as an employee?

by @matthieudrula | 5yr 4 years ago | 8 comments

Tricky or really dumb question ahah.
So โ€ฆ I know that you can create a company in order to get the nationality but you need to invest a lot (depending the country 20K$ +).
I also know that you can get a visa if a company hires you.
So can you go in a country (picking Colombia as an exemple), pay 100$ to create a company and hire yourself after?
Or can you ask somebody (a friend) to create a company and hire you in order to give you a visa.
Does this visa last until you quit your job or is it just temporary (6 months)?
If you already have a company (letโ€™s say you paid 20ยฃ for a UK company), can you just create a branch in a foreign country and give yourself a job there?

Any tips on renting a place in Ubud with decent Internet?

in Ubud, Indonesia by @tvrhe | 5yr 4 years ago | 3 comments

Iโ€™m looking to rent a place for 3 months (or longer) that has relatively fast, reliable Internet.

I know this is Ubud weโ€™re talking about, but Iโ€™m not requiring Korea-like speeds. Anything that around 1MBps (= 4 to 8 megabits per second) and upload-speeds of around 100kbps (ยฑ megabits per second) will suffice, as long as itโ€™s stable.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and/or offer up any tips?
My plan thus far is to contact airbnb owners directly and ask for rates + a screenshot of their internet speeds.

Iโ€™m not on a tight budget, so Iโ€™m willing to spend a bit more.

Thanks so much! : )

Is it fairly common and/or safe for a young single woman to rent a villa in Ubud, Bali?

Any fast internet spots in Canggu or Ubud, Bali?

in Canggu, Indonesia by @mark_nagelmann | 5yr 5 years ago | 5 comments

Looking for a connection I can work from, 2+mb/s would be awesome! Just leaving Seminyak, Bali and heading north to Canggu. Iโ€™m desparate for good internet so I can get some work done. Iโ€™m a programmer and need to download/upload ~200mb files on the reg. If you have any fast internet spots near Canggu or Ubud, youโ€™d be helping a nomad out!

Which Indonesian visa is the most hassle-free for staying there for 6-12 months?

in Indonesia by @david | 5yr 5 years ago | 6 comments

Which Indonesian visa is the most hassle-free for staying there for 6-12 months? By hassle free I mean reasonably easy to obtain, not too expensive, and ideally without frequent renewals. I will arrive in Bali in April 2015.

The visas that come to mind are:

  • 1 year business visa (but the first stay can only be 60 days, any following stay as long as I want?)

  • Half-year sosial visa (but I have to renew monthly and cannot leave for a few days without an exit/re-entry permit?)

  • Tourist visa which I convert into a sosial visa (probably itโ€™s cheaper and more hassle-free to do the sosial right away before arrival?)

Which did you try, and which were easiest? Do I need a local invitation, and what is the easiest way to get one without getting into obligations?

Would anyone be so nice and invite me for a business visa? If yes please PM me, we can talk of course before you agree to help me out on this one.

What I want to do in Indonesia (starting in Bali) is surfing, looking into starting an online business, or โ€˜looking into investment opportunitiesโ€™ (if arriving on a business visa).

By the way, I have an EU passport.

My wife and I are in Ubud โ€“ would anyone like to meet up?

Hi everyone, my wife, Devon, and I made it to Ubud yesterday, and have been hanging out at Hubud a bit today and otherwise wandering around. Iโ€™m wondering if anyone would like to meet up? We donโ€™t really know anyone here and would love to make some connections. This is our first nomad stop โ€“ weโ€™d love to hear your stories, find out more about what to do here in Bali, and otherwise get to know some new people.

Letโ€™s meet up!
