in Ireland by @miquel | 4yr  | 6 comments

I am hoping to spend a couple of months in Ireland and UK this summer. Does anyone have any recommendations for finding short-term rentals?

Hi Miguel,
Actually - we are leaving for Berlin on the 30th of March and are just finishing up painting our apartment to put it on AirBnB. Its a small 1 bed in the center of Dublin - Portobello - one of the nicest places to live, alongside the canal and a 10 minute walk to the city center. We will probably be putting it up for โ‚ฌ1,200 per month. It has a separate bedroom with a double bed, two desks, sofa, high speed wifi, UPC TV and a full kitchen (stocked with lots of spices if you like to cook  ). I will be taking some photos tomorrow if you are interested let me know.
Kind Regards,
Orla

Hi Miquel,
Sorry about the delay with this - here is the apartment on Airbnb - I just put it up about 10 minutes ago - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3737322

Photos are not great as we were in a rush and had to take them at 4am before our flight to Berlin yesterday but Phil will be going back in two weeks to take daylight photos.

Iโ€™ve just gotten sent an enquiry for 17th April to 16th May (bit of a shock to be honest - have just put it up  ) - let me know if still interested.

Hi Miquel,

Iโ€™m from Ireland so maybe I can help  Is there anything in particular youโ€™re looking to do while here? Dublin is probably where most of the action is, but places like Galway, Cork, Kerry, Clare are better for touristy stuff.

As you might expect, Dublin is considerably more expensive, rent is on the rise in the city so accommodation might be limited. Have you an idea of timeline? I can keep an ear out for accommodation. http://www.daft.ie/ might have some short-term 3 month rental either if that works for you!

Try contacting people on AirBnb to see if theyโ€™d be up for negotiation? I assume youโ€™ll be in one location for perhaps a month at a time?

Iโ€™ve already exhausted the 20 or so Airbnb leads < $2k. It seems like Airbnbโ€™s inventory is limited compared to the Irish classified sites. Hoping someone knows a secret about this islandโ€ฆ

How do you ensure that you have good WiFi for working whilst travelling e.g. in places like India?

in India by @davda1546 | 43min 42 minutes ago | 4 comments

We are hoping to travel later this year and we will be working remotely - how do you ensure you get good WiFi in places such as in India where the signal isn't always great? Do you have any tips on where to go/ what equipment you have to get?

Do you prefer co-living spaces or hostels or Airbnbs?

by @davda1546 | 6h 6 hours ago | 5 comments

We are hoping to become nomads soon and have booked an AirBnB in September in Goa for our first destination. We are considering what would be the best option for accommodation after that. We are trying to decide between co-living spaces, hostels, or Airbnbs.

What are your experiences of accommodation in terms of the following: reliable wifi, social aspect, pricing, cleanliness, cooking facilities?

How do you find people to meet whilst travelling?

by @davda1546 | 2d 1 day ago | 1 comment

We are going travelling but we won't know anyone out there, what's your best advice for meeting people and socialising abroad? We've thought about the obvious things like Meetup etc, is there anything else you can suggest from your experience?

Best place in South East Asia to live for 6+ months per year

in Indonesia by @miklaskroager | 3d 2 days ago | 1 comment

We're looking for a country in South East Asia that can function as our base, mainly for tax purposes. Meaning it will have to be a place where we can stay for the 183 days required without too much hassle.

We've been looking at Thailand, but have heard that it's very hard to do visa runs etc., so what other can you recommend? Indonesia looked like a good option, but the income rate is a flat 20% and very high for the region.

How to get SMS verifications for banks while traveling?

by @jackgopack | 6d 6 days ago | 38 comments

Any suggestions for seamlessly receiving SMS Verifications from US financial institutions and other sites while traveling internationally continuously? Wonโ€™t keep my US Verizon account due to cost and currently plan to use local sims at each destination (T-Mobile and Project Fi are NOT an option as they terminate for continuous roaming). In summation, I wonโ€™t have a US mobile account.

Unless Iโ€™m missing something, which is very possible, this appears to be the single most complex issue Iโ€™ve encountered in my preparations, and one that no one addresses. I would greatly appreciate any possible solution that works 100% of the time. Canโ€™t afford surprises in this regard. Many Thanks! Jack.

Introduce yourself โ€” who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo | 7d 6 days ago | 670 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, whereโ€™ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but theyโ€™re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So letโ€™s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • whatโ€™s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you donโ€™t want to
But the more you shareโ€ฆ The merrier!

How does Ireland tourist visa length and recurrence work?

in Ireland by @nrgetik | 3mo 2 months ago | 2 comments

Iโ€™m planning a stint in Ireland and Iโ€™m wondering about the 90-day tourist visa. Official information just mentions the 90-day limit without elaboration. Is it akin to Schengen where itโ€™s counted against the most recent 180-day period? Iโ€™m asking because I might like to take trips to the continent flying out of Dublin, but I donโ€™t know how I should account for the days Iโ€™m gone if I do that. Do I stop the 90-day clock for Ireland while Iโ€™m away, or should I make sure Iโ€™m gone from Ireland <= 90 days after my initial arrival date, regardless of where else I go during that interval, just to be safe? What have others done?

How to find a short-term (2-3 weeks) in Koลกice?

in Kosice, Slovakia by @adamnowek | 2yr 1 year ago | 0 comments

Hi nomads! Iโ€™m planning to head to Koลกice in May for a few weeks, both to work and to watch some hockey (the World Championships are being co-hosted in the city). Weโ€™ve tried looking into places to stay the usual ways (Airbnb, Booking.com, et al) but it looks like the city is completely sold out during the dates of the hockey tournament.

Does anyone know of any other resources for finding a place in Koลกice? Or does anyone happen to have an apartment to rent out if they want to avoid the onslaught of thousands of hockey fans? :stuck_out_tongue:

Worried about English fluency when finding a job in Ireland?

in Ireland by @gonzalezveroni94 | 3yr 2 years ago | 1 comment

Hi Nomads!

Iโ€™m Veronica, a spanish graduate of computer science. I moved to Dublin to get a job and I have an interview next week. I have a good fluency for now but I am worried I will not be able to speak to my co-workers about specific topics because I am not a native speaker. I can talk about general things but I worry my english is not good enough to talk about what I am trained in.

Does anyone else face this problem when moving to new countries? If so, how did you overcome this? Thanks!!

Places to work from in Dublin? High-Speed Internet + Quiet?

in Dublin, Ireland by @andreadardon | 4yr 4 years ago | 6 comments

Weโ€™re in Dublin for three weeks and we didnโ€™t get a coworking space because the prices are higher than what weโ€™ve been paying in other European cities and we wonโ€™t be here for too long.
We thought we might be able to work from our Airbnb but soon found out itโ€™s impossible.
Does anyone know of good places to work from, like libraries or anywhere with high-speed internet and that will not be too loud? We take several video calls to the U.S.

Thanks
