International Legal Will?

by @globaltaxfree | 3yr  | 5 comments

Just tackling my legal will and bought a little $35 pack at my local Australian post office while Iโ€™m back in my birth country, but upon reading the first few pages itโ€™s fairly apparent this is only an Australian Legal Will.

Has anyone tackled checking out their will situation on an international level?

I need to consider things like decentralised online assets that donโ€™t exist in any particular country, any resources or experiences even just anecdotally appreciated

Cheers

A different take on the situation. Internationally there cannot be a Will. The national laws are bound together by conventions and agreements. And the convention itself decide whether you can take the matter to International Court of Justice or other international court. In other words, the dispute settlement is also part of the agreement.

Therefore, one of the way is to contact the embassy / consulate of your home country for Will in the country of residence.

And if you truly like to live like a digital person then you can convert your assets in virtual currency and then execute smart contract which can be executed in some time future if some events do not happen. Your assets can be transferred to the virtual wallet of your nominees.

As mentioned, thereโ€™s no such thing as a global will. My (non-legal) suggestion is that you should have all the passwords, modes-n-codes, on file with an attorney in your home country along with a will from that country. You should get some type of repatriation insurance in case you want your body sent home, else, your lawyer and designated โ€˜upon my deathโ€™ can handle your wishes like getting death certificate and all the stuff associated. If you arenโ€™t planning on a โ€˜home countryโ€™ or having somebody in your home country do any/all this, each country will have her own list of requirements.

Stay healthy and live a long life while waiting for international law to catch up! :-):sunglasses:

Thereโ€™s no such thing. Each country has their own culture, laws and conventions with regards to estate distribution. The closest you might have are signatories to the Uniform International Wills Act. Other than that, youโ€™ll have to get a will drawn up in accordance with local laws in each country of applicability.

in Norway by @kvarsten | 4d 4 days ago | 1 comment

Hi, my name is Eric and I am a remote worker from Norway. Me and a friend is flying into Gran Canaria on Friday and spending two weeks in San Agustin on the south side of the Island.

After that we are pondering about staying in La Gomera. Does anyone of you have an experience staying there or are there anyone of you staying there now? :)

Ukraine Residency

in Ukraine by @reticle | 8d 7 days ago | 0 comments

I have a slightly above average US income which I can work remotely from paired with a $1000 a month income stream and more than enough to purchase a middle end Flat in Ukraine. Does anyone with knowledge of this process have any advice to acquire a reliable way to stay in the country?

Hi, we are trying to find a house to rent for 2-3 persons near Las Palmas for 4-5 months at the moment and it seems to be almost impossible except through Airbnb which is super expensive. Any advises or local contacts?

Is there a map of countries open for travel now?

in Russia by @vernon99 | 1mo 1 month ago | 8 comments

I have two passports from different countries and am trying to understand where can I travel now. Is there a publicly available map of countries open for visitors by passport country that I can use to see what are my options? I was pretty sure such a thing should exist, but cannot easily find any.

Maybe at least there're maps for specific passports? Mine are Russian and American.

If there's no such thing, I'd be down to build one, let me know if interested to collaborate :)

Are restaurants, cafes and malls working in Mexico City taking into account COVID situation?

in Mexico by @thateverdmitriy | 1mo 1 month ago | 1 comment

I am planning to travel to Mexico City next weekend and stay for 7-10 days there. I wonder if cafes, stores and other places like these work? And if cafes work, do they work as usual or only for take away&delivery? Will be very thankful if someone can help here.

Where do I get good legal advice/support to have a long-term stay in Portugal?

in Lisbon, Portugal by @mzorrilla | 2mo 2 months ago | 4 comments

Hello, everyone!

My idea is to stay as low as 6 months and as long as a year (maybe, who knows) over Lisbon after doing some analysis from many cities in Europe.

I'm an Argentinian and Chilean (both nationalities) so... no Euro-pass for me (getting my Italian nationality could take 2 years easily). I'm also a remote worker and I have a really good income (I work for a Silicon Valley company) so I can show more than enough resources to stay in the country.

Everything I see online doesn't inspire me much confidence (most sites looks a bit scammy) and this is not a "vacation stay"... I want to be clear my head far away from Argentina right now. If someone has a good website, recommendations, etc I will super appreciate.

Thanks in advance!

Does international health insurance for digital nomads exist?

by @al_steffen | 10mo 9 months ago | 59 comments

Hey Nomads!

Iโ€™m looking for an international health insurance (no travel insurance) for my nomadic life. It should cover the basic services and at least be accepted in the EU (itโ€™s ok if itโ€™s not accepted in the US as Iโ€™m aware they rarely are). Nice to have: enter into a contract online. Anyone got a good experience or a recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

How do you invest internationally as a nomad?

by @mateuszwieloch | 11mo 10 months ago | 17 comments

I have finally saved enough money to start investing. What company gives good, diversified access to stock, ETFs and mutual funds? Does it make sense to use company like Vanguard or Fidelity for that? Iโ€™m a EU/Poland citizen, how would I transfer my money back and forth without incurring significant fees?

Remote worker in Amsterdam: taxes and legal status?

in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @think | 2yr 2 years ago | 1 comment

Hi all,

I am moving to Amsterdam in January and looking for advice regarding legal status.

I work for a small French company. They agreed to let me move to Amsterdam as a remote worker starting January. :v:

However, they have no business entity and no employee in the Netherlands, so we have no idea how to set up the whole thing legally speaking. Should I remain an employee of the French entity, should I charge them as a consultant/contractor?

Of course, I am looking for a solution that is both simple and with minimum taxes :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Thank you for your help!!
Steph

PS: If you can recommend a good accountant that is competent on the topic, I an happy to pay for the service too!

International health insurance without having a permanent residence?

by @fabyliechti | 3yr 3 years ago | 30 comments

Hey Nomads!

Iโ€™m a Swiss Citizen but full time traveler (living a few month there and there) and therefore donโ€™t have a permanent residence/home anywhere in the world.

For this reason, Iโ€™m as well not registered in Switzerland and therefore donโ€™t have medical care since I would have to pay at least 200$ monthly for medical care which I wonโ€™t use since Iโ€™m not living there.

As a in Switzerland unregistered Swiss Citizen I donโ€™t have medical care in Switzerland but, however based on Swiss Law Iโ€™m always allowed to return to Switzerland, register and then get medical coverage (f.e. in a medical emergency).

So now I was looking for both, an international health insurance with good coverage and an additional travel insurance for my trips. Unfortunately every insurance I check, I got asked for a permanent residence - which I donโ€™t have and donโ€™t want to. So I donโ€™t know what to fill out and if I still can get insurance without having a permanent residence.

I was wondering if there are any nomads here with a similar situation like me and (not registered anywhere and without a permanent residence)? If so, what health insurance, travel insurance you have and where?

PS. As well Iโ€™m not sure if it is kind of illegal not having a permanent residence anywhere plus where do I have to pay taxes?

Would be extremely grateful for any help on those matters - thanks so much!

Schengen tourist visa - legal to work for home companies?

by @lefnire | 5yr 4 years ago | 33 comments

So I know itโ€™s illegal to work in Europe for European companies without a work visa / permit. Iโ€™m also aware of the Germany freelancer visa, which lets you work in Germany legally for 3 years (but Iโ€™m not stationing in Germany; I want to hop hop hop). I see many digital nomads programming on the road, making income from American companies on a Schengen tourist visa. Of course this seems fine, since itโ€™s brining American dollars into Europe. But is it legal? Has anyone had experiences / conversations with immigration, or seen this discussed anywhere online? My Google fu fails me here.

Dealing with "winter" and "summer" local hours when setting up international calls

by @baia | 5yr 4 years ago | 2 comments

When setting up international calls I typically google โ€œ[city] timeโ€, or I google โ€œEST timeโ€ or โ€œPST timeโ€. But depending on which website gives the answer it can take into account local hour (winter/summer) or NOT!

Any universal app/solution you people use to solve this confusion?

How to sign legal documents on the road?

by @gawin | 5yr 4 years ago | 11 comments

It can be hard to get access to a good printer and scanner while moving, especially if you have to sign a lot of documents. Now, I could scan my signature and just copy paste a digital image it on the documents, but that doesnโ€™t feel secure and really easy to copy by others.

How do you sign legal documents while on the road?
