The population is somewhat used to foreigners since there are many humanitarian agencies with offices in the city. Nevertheless, basically no one speaks English. There is a large mall with several options to eat and work. I've spent days in local cafes without issue although cafe owners were clearly surprised by this behaviour. Regarding activities, they are constrained to the touristic, such as museums, and hamams (saunas). I've heard that ther

First the cost of living is waaay lower than what nomad list says. You can rent a nice serviced apartment with sea view for 29€/Day. People barely speak english in Batumi and there is not a lot going on (compared to Tbilisi). It is a nice place, if you want to live very cheap, safe, enjoy sea views and like modern buildings. However keep in mind, it is a small city, so there is not a lot going on.

No one is in a hurry to fix anything - from broken lift in the building (I even got stuck once on a Sunday night and was told “maybe someone will come tomorrow to free you”! - had to break out myself) to your wifi (stopped working for almost 2 weeks, not until we threatened to change companies that they decided to send a technician). We didn’t find it very friendly. People don’t smile, staff
