I have to disagree with some of the scores: there is NO freedom of speech when it comes to the Royal Family, government or Islam. Anyone who speaks in a derogatory way about the government, royal family or Islam will be deported (or jailed if they are Bruneian). There is NO freedom of the press either. We used to live in Canggu back in 2017, it felt back then like the perfect balance between western development and local culture. Stayed here for a month. It reminds me of a less-developed Bangkok. Although there are a lot of high-rise buildings being built at the moment. Very cheap place compared to lots of places in Asia however it's one of the most expensive places in Vietnam. I wouldn't stay here long term, good for a month but was ready to move on. I'm so surprised to see all these comments. I absolutely love Jakarta ! You can take a gojek bike taxi for 1$ and they bring you anywhere. The skyline is beautiful at night. The food is good. I've been hanging out in Berlin on and off for 30 years. It is very safe for women. It is much friendlier than it used to be. There are loads of vegan restaurants now. I recently visited Amsterdam for the third time (and the first time since 2018). I personally think it's a little overrated, but a cool place to visit nonetheless. I find it difficult to understand what people see in this city. The cost to benefit ratio is just so terribly bad! This is by far the most expensive city in Europe (especially in terms of rent), with hardly anything to offer in comparision with other cities like Barcelona, Lisbon or Warsaw. Pros: Weather is great and apartments are excellent. Cons: City is dirty including the beaches. Locals are extremely hostile, unfriendly and confrontational. There isn't a huge amount of good things to do in the city - most things are mediocre. People constantly bash into you in the street. Food and coffee is very average. Crime is awful - my apartment was broken into and my suitcase got stolen from the baggage belt at the airport. Air quality is terrible.
