I guess if you're a nomad this doesn't matter much, but the long-term job pickings here are slim and among the most underpaid for a US city. There seems to be a tacit rent floor that means you won't find a good deal on housing. A lot of people don't seem very invested in their interpersonal relationships here since their ties to the area are often transient.

I was looking for a place to rent for 4 months! I finally found a crap hole--- a room and a bathroom for 750 a month. I lasted less than a week there because the so-called neighbor who shared the building with me tried to kick my door in because she didnt like where I parked. I had to involve the police and the landlord. The landlord gave me my money back and that wacko got fired from their job, but it was disgusting. Not a good place to live anymore.

Extremely friendly and welcoming locals, and world-class scuba diving. The high cost of living and low walkability make George Town a poor fit for most digital nomads. Ideal situation would be to get a short-term gig from an employer that offers housing and a car. There's a good mix of tourists and professionals, good internet, and beautiful beaches.

Red Tide every summer I've been there. It kills the fish which wash up to the shore and make the air toxic- hurts your lungs and eyes. BUT, other than that Sarasota has some cute hipster places that I've enjoyed. I wouldn't plan a trip here unless I lived nearby.

I really enjoyed my first week here, but as I got to know more locals and heard their stories, I was disturbed at the security situation. Almost everyone I met has horror stories about being robbed at gunpoint, robbed by the police, and in one case even drugged and robbed by a taxi driver. It's not even safe to walk a short distance at night (locals told me to just take Uber). Beyond the security issues, scams also abound, and the covid policy is wacky, with hand sanitizer being forced on you ev

Excellent place to be if you have young kids; tons of parks, playgrounds, activities, and family-oriented. I can see how it wouldn't appeal much to single long-stay visitors. I call it "Singaportland" when trying to describe the vibe to remote colleagues. Clean, safe, orderly, but a bit constructed. You pay a serious CoL tax for the perks. Zero appeal for Chiang-Mai-nomad types, based on pricing and culture.
