Places to work from in Dublin? High-Speed Internet + Quiet?

in Dublin, Ireland by @andreadardon | 4yr  | 6 comments

Weโ€™re in Dublin for three weeks and we didnโ€™t get a coworking space because the prices are higher than what weโ€™ve been paying in other European cities and we wonโ€™t be here for too long.
We thought we might be able to work from our Airbnb but soon found out itโ€™s impossible.
Does anyone know of good places to work from, like libraries or anywhere with high-speed internet and that will not be too loud? We take several video calls to the U.S.

Thanks

Hi Andrea,

Glad youโ€™re liking Dublin! Iโ€™ve recently found a great not well known place for working called the Workbench. Itโ€™s a free coworking meant for startups opened by one of the local banks, but Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s open to everyone.

Itโ€™s in Grand Canal Square which is a nice area too: https://www.google.ie/maps/place/Bank+Of+Ireland+-+1+Grand+Canal+Square/@53.343636,-6.2413237,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x48670e9355c52117:0x73d57356d3dd923b

(I know the map says itโ€™s closed but itโ€™s not, it opens from 8am to 5:30pm most days, and some times later)

Cool, let me know how you find it! Iโ€™ve a colleague working from there the last few weeks, Iโ€™ve only been there once, but will likely be there near full time from next week onwards.

Hi Andrea!

Welcome to Dublin!

There are a lot of great caffes in the city center where the internet is quite descent. Iโ€™ve been testing for working some of those lately.

Thereโ€™s KC Peaches on NE side of St. Stephenโ€™s Green. Itโ€™s a good internet connection (although you need to reconnect every 30min or so). During lunch time it gets really busy and noisy.

Thereโ€™s 3fe near Google. Itโ€™s probably the priciest caffe in Dublin, but the connection is good and apparently everything that you can order there to drink and eat.

Most of the Startbucks have good internet connection. Two of my favorite for working (they both are quiet almost the whole day):
https://goo.gl/maps/gysJEdRMaZN2

(somethingโ€™s wrong with gmaps links. One is rendered inline like a map and the other as link)

Note that Dublin has a ton of little hidden places like these. These are just some that Iโ€™ve tried out. If you donโ€™t expect any calls, I suggest you try and explore a bit. Itโ€™s an incredible little city.

Enjoy!

Thank you so much! Youโ€™re awesome
I went to two libraries today and none of them worked. Internet is a huge issue and I did end up in a Starbucks in the end, but I will try out your recommendations! KC Peaches sounds good, and I loved St. Stephenโ€™s Green, so itโ€™d be nice to be near it.
I am really enjoying Dublin! Itโ€™s a great city and the people are just so nice, everyone is up for a chat.

Thanks again!

Which towns have decent internet?

Which places in South East Asia are suitable for kids?

by @nomad4 | 11mo 11 months ago | 3 comments

Hi everybody,

weโ€™re a family of 4 from Canada (Quebec province) leaving to Thailand on December 1st.
Our plan is to take things slowly and live in a peaceful environment while working a little and doing homeschooling to our 6-year-old son (plus escaping Canadian-cold winter )

This is roughly what our plan would look like:

  • arriving in Bangkok, staying there for about a week (air bnb probably)
  • moving to Chiang Mai then Krabi (most likely Ao Nang, Ao Tha Lane, Railay) or Koh Pha Ngan (North part) or Koh Chang (2-3 months)
  • then Indonesia (Bali/Gili islands) (1,5 months)
  • And Malaysia (Batu Ferengi, Penang) to finish (1 month)

Weโ€™re not city dwellers, and love being surrounded by nature.
Knowing that, what would be the best places for a family who want something quiet, walkable and with reliable Internet service?

Thanks!

Is there any good and safe coworking space with fast internet in Costa Rica?

in Costa Rica by @sven | 1yr 1 year ago | 7 comments

Everything is in the title.

Iโ€™m working on a big project so I will need fast internet (>15 mbps).
If itโ€™s close to the beach, it would be even better.

Thanks !!

Pacific islands with decent internet speed to work online

by @paxai | 2yr 1 year ago | 1 comment

Any digital nomads that have lived for an extended period of time on a pacific island? I am planning on moving with my girlfriend for a 6 month period to a pacific island, and planning to live of copywriting and some other online work.

Have been looking at islands like Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Cook Islands ++. Main problem is that many places seem to have expensive/bad internet speeds and access.

I dontยดt need superfast internet, but it has to be good enough for me to surf, send e-mails, download pictures, update webpages and so on. Either good internet cafes or the possibility to rent appartments with internet that doesnt suck or blow our budget.

Any recommendations for the perfect pacific island for working online?

Places in Central or South America with a beach for remote working

by @mcdime | 2yr 2 years ago | 5 comments

Im looking to make my first venture into nomad living this September and keep leaning back towards Bocas del Toro.

Does anyone have experience setting up shop there? Iโ€™m open to other warm weather surf towns as well

Starting a SaaS company that assists the operation of service based industries so being near some other SaaS people would be wonderful. (First time starting a tech company)

Internet Speed (Teaching English Online)

by @teacher | 2yr 2 years ago | 0 comments

Hi guys.

Iโ€™ll be travelling to Peru soon to volunteer and thinking to teach online in Cusco. Iโ€™m wondering what the best set-up would be for speeds high enough to teach via video-platform online. Iโ€™m open to getting a SIM Card with a data package, getting a dedicated internet provider for a private apartment or using an ethernet cable to increase speed.

Thank you,
Seda

What's a good and warm place in April to surf with fast internet?

by @jakegibson | 3yr 2 years ago | 9 comments

I landed a remote job that is fully remote with only one team skype meeting a week. Iโ€™m looking to leave around March 13th and stay 1 - 3 months in each place. The first place I want somewhere that is warm with good surf. For the group video chat I need at least 5/2 down/up reliable internet. Any recommendations for a place that meets that end of March - April?

Iโ€™ve read through the forums / nomads list. Iโ€™ve already done Costa Rica and Indo and would like to try somewhere new. Currently looking at Sayuliata Mexico, Canary Islands, and Morocco though I think Iโ€™ll wait on the second two since they sound like they are better in the fall.

Thanks!

Any good places in Krabi to rent a house for long stay?

Hey everyone,
We are nomad couple looking for some house we can stay for year or more.
Are there any known good places, like new villages with modern houses or something like this that we can check? Or any place you can recommend to look for a good (for European) house for rent?
Thx in advance for your help!

Looking for something to prop up my Asus MB169B+

by @jbweimar | 3yr 2 years ago | 2 comments

I recently purchased a second monitor to connect to my MacBook Pro 15". I use the Nextstand laptop stand to get my MacBook to eye level. Iโ€™m wondering what second monitor (without base) users are using to get their second monitor at the same level. I know of this company Elevate Stand (.com), but it seems a bit heavy and bulky (although I guess it must be somewhat, if it is to hold a monitor).

How good is internet in Cuba?

in Cuba by @vfonic | 3yr 2 years ago | 6 comments

Hi all,

Iโ€™m going to Cuba in October and I need internet for my work. Iโ€™m concerned with the internet connection in Cuba. Is it possible to have a descent internet connection that I can use to get the work done?

I donโ€™t need to make video calls, I just need to be able to upload my work couple of times per day. I donโ€™t need a lot of bandwidth either.

Internet speed in Arequipa/Peru and the north of Chile

in Arequipa, Peru by @danielaf | 3yr 2 years ago | 3 comments

Has anyone been to Arequipa and worked with Skype or Zoom? Iโ€™m currently in Lima and have 8 Mbps which is fine. Funnily, Nomadlist lists Lima with an average speed of 2Mbps and Arequipa with 5Mbps. Any recent experiences? Also interested in the north of Chile as Iโ€™m thinking of travelling by bus to Arica, San Pedro de Atacama and then either to Argentina or slowly down south to Patagonia.

What are good places near Cancun?

Is there a place close to Cancun such as Playa Del Carmen or Talum where I can stay for 1-3 months? Any recommendations? Or is that not a good place for a long term stay?

I love the beach there when I visited there, I thought it would be nice to be able to live by the beach and work for a little while.

Low cost + Nomad community in Europe?

by @joaoalbertofn | 3yr 3 years ago | 8 comments

Hi Guys! Iโ€™m planing to kick start my Nomad Life style in July, and Iโ€™m researching cities in Europe that can provide three things:

  1. Low cost (Iโ€™m earning money in Brazilian Real, not Dollars). Especially regarding rent.
  2. Some kind of Digital Nomad community and Co-working spaces.
  3. Security. Low criminality.

All other characteristics (Weather, english speaking), are not as important as the ones above.
=D
