Nicaragua, any experience?

in Nicaragua by @as11 7yr  | 9 comments

Fellow Nomads, I am planning to start a Central America trip from Nicaragua and make my way down, finishing in Ecuador during a 2 month period.

So I want to know if anyone has any experience with Nicaragua, places to stay, internet reliability, safety etc?

I frankly know very little about the country, so would love to hear about your experience!

Thanks,

This thread is a bit old but Iโ€™ll throw in my two cents! Iโ€™m part of the team at a new coworking and coliving space in San Juan del Sur (we opened our doors on January 1) and have been a big hit ever since, there was definitely a demand for space like ours down here! Hooking up fibre optic internet was a huge game changer and weโ€™ve got and entire backup system for when power does go out. If youโ€™re ever back in the area weโ€™d love to have you! More info at http://nomad.life!

Hi there,

Iโ€™ve been living in San Juan Del Sur for the past 4 months and I have mixed feelings: on one side, you have amazing beaches and great surf spots, some nice cafรฉs, a large expat community (for the better or the worse), a yoga studio, + many services and products that you may not find in the rest of Nicaraguaโ€ฆ On the other side, it has unfortunately become party / drug town and I think there are too many loud people who arenโ€™t very respectful. Also many foreigners passing through and living here have almost completely obliterated the local and cultural touch of the place. San Juan Del Sur is generally safe and Internet is average (I have a 2 MB connection which is probably the fastest you can have in the whole country).

Since 2013, Iโ€™ve spent about 8 months in Nicaragua. Iโ€™ve worked from many places in the country (Bluefields, San Carlos, Esteli, Matagalpaโ€ฆ) and really liked Jinotepe in the North, but you may feel lonely there if you donโ€™t speak Spanish: I did not meet any foreigners there.

If you have more questions about Nicaragua, feel free to ask.

Iโ€™ve heard good things about Nicaragua and will be staying 1 month in Granada in a few weeks. Can update here again about the city if you want to
I also recommend the fb group โ€œdigital nomads around the worldโ€ - there were a few threads about Nicaragua.

Hi Tom,

No sadly not, I am in the UK currently. I plan to come to Nicaragua start of August. Are you interested in joining the Based Coworking facility in August? I am in the process of collecting application now, if you were able to spread the work around SJdS that would be great, and for every successful candidate you refer I can give you a discount of your space.

Cheers

Matt

Hi, we are currently in Ecuador. Have been here 3 weeks already and will be leaving in mid March after visiting most of the major towns / cities etc as well as Galapagos Islands. Ping me if you want to know our view of Ecuador. Else weโ€™ll have written a blog post on Quito in a few days, now that we have left there.

Cheers, Paul

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Entering Nicaragua with a one way ticket

in Nicaragua by @theunisk 7yr 7 years ago  | 2 comments

Does anyone have experiencing entering Nicaragua by plane with a one way ticket ? Specifically, I intend to book a ticket via Spirit. I am aware it is mostly airlines that check for onward travel. Does anyone have experience with this ? Flyonward seems to have been getting bad reviews lately. Would a bus ticket to a neighbouring country be enough to convince Spirit ?

How to get from Panama to Nicaragua?

in Nicaragua by @inannavega 8yr 8 years ago  | 2 comments

Iโ€™m spending three months in Columbia and have a plane ticket from there to Panama City. The goal is Granada, Nicaragua. Unfortunately, I will have a bit of luggage on this trip, so Iโ€™m not all that excited about moving around too much by bus. As I will be staying in Central America for the foreseeable future, I will be able to return to Panama. What would you do in Panama if time were limited? Is it worth it just for a day? Should I return later without so much luggage and wait to see Panama until then? Any thoughts?
