Much more livable that I expected. Downtown is a bit dusty and unclean, but suburbs are great, with lots of restaurants and malls. Furthermore Jordan is smaller than it seems, there is basically one road crossing the country from North to South and you can always visit Petra or the beaches of Aqaba in a daytrip. Just avoid Ramadan as it can be very annoying for foreigners with all the restrictions.

Bars, restaurants and clubs come and go more frequently than the snow on the mountain peaks that form a backdrop to the city. But finding the new places - only to later realise they have vanished - is what makes for singular, memorable nights on these warm shores of the Mediterranean. There's also the walled (with several different entrances) ancient, warren-like, oval-shaped city, which is about a mile across with lots of markets, small hotels and restaurants. I hear post-war Damascus, unlike Aleppo, is fairly intact.

How the f is this city in the #1 spot for europe? Is the Warsaw city council paying for the spot? I spent a month here mostly to help during the ukraine refugee crisis. This was the most meh city I've visited in my life. People are incredibly cold. I was in Neapol recently, the city has a lot of potential, the weather is nice, it is not far away from very nice places like Capri or Ischia. However, the city itself is chaotic, dirty, no traffic rules, I felt more like in SE Asia than in Western Europe. There is not much going on in the city, you can walk the main stuff in half a day. I do not recommend to stay here short term, definitely not long term. Use the airport and then go to some charming village which there are plenty in this part o

As always take precautions when traveling. Turkish people are generally friendly and the cost of living can be very affordable for foreigners. That being said, the taxis are around Taksim and Old town can be a bit dodgy, especially if you don't speak Turkish or get in an "illegal" cab. To avoid this, download an app that calculates the fare for you (prices are fixed and determined by the city)and show this to the driver before entering the taxi.
