Just interested to see a quick rundown of everyone’s next stop. Where will you be going next and when?

90% am heading to Chiang Mai for the rest of the year… But am still undecided … Fighting the pull of inertia from being in Bangalore for the last 7 years. Will decide in a week!

After a pop up to Chiang Mai for a coupla of weeks am over to Kuala Lumpur for about 1 month, then Hobart, Australia for just a week to see a festival performance I was excited to see happening, then back up northward to…?

Probably Malaysia again if I like it, it being an easy stay in one spot cheaply place for a while for Americans, take any short trips out around that country or over to others as little holidays for a while.

Right now I’m working on debt reduction that developed with the ailing of a passed-now cat so keeping costs low and extra income to plow into that is a big priority, plus purchasing flights back to USA for about 2.5 weeks in the spring.

Is why not more time being made of Australia and also New Zealand, of which I’ve never been to either and am going to attack hard at some point: they’re pricey.

So if anyone is in Kuala Lumpur between roughly Nov 28th and Jan 11-ish, maybe we could do coffee or some such.

Hey everyone. I just made https://nomadtrips.co as an interface around this thread’s purpose (part of Nomad List). It lets you find if others are or will be staying in the same place as you. And maybe meet up if you like.

It’s live now (although in beta) and you can login as a member of #nomads

Currently in Split, Croatia, which I adore. Going to Zadar for a week afterwards, then popping home to the UK as it’s my Mum’s 70th. I haven’t made plans for Nov/Dec yet - I want to go to the Canaries (chasing the sunshine!), but accommodation is looking expensive. So currently in planning/thinking mode. Any suggestions for a good (read: warm) nomad base in Europe for Nov/Dec?

I’ll be in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria throughout the winter. My rent is around £210 a month, so not expensive… Initially I was trying to find a place in Tenerife and found it hard going. I suppose it depends on which of the islands you’re interested in.

Ha ha. I think it depends on the cats. I’ve not had much trouble, although there have been some quirks. Cats who are jealous of each other, for instance. And the young cat who liked to chase foxes… The last time that I was looking after cats, the morning of my departure both the cats were annoyed with me when they saw that I was leaving - I think they felt betrayed - and they both gave me the cold shoulder. That was hard!

My friend’s cat has cancer and has lost a heap of weight so he feeds her whatever she wants. She knows it and has 2 mouthfuls of food then wants something else.

I’ve got a few more days in a wonderful village in the south of France (south of France but up in the hills - it’s heavenly!), to be followed by a few days in Montpellier, then a little more than a month in Belgium, looking after a couple of cats (no rent, so i can save for the next stop), followed by a little more than a month in London - still trying to plug the accommodation gap there - followed by four months in Gran Canaria, followed by a few weeks in London again, then a few weeks in the US, and yes, I’ve got more than half a year plotted out already, but then I’m wide open again!

Hey everyone,

(Just as a sidenote: I’m aware of the community rules, and I believe that the idea is absolutely relevant in the context of this discussion  I hope admins will agree!)

Are you planning to visit multiple cities within next couple of months and looking for co-working spaces to work and expand your network?

We are currently working on an idea (MyNomadPass) which will give access to multiple co-working spaces around the World and we are trying to validate it right now with different nomads. So, if the first paragraph describes you, please “r” to me and let’s talk more about it!

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- 🛂 Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- 🎓Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- 🏛 Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Val

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Is anyone travelling right now?

by @viktor 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Winter is coming and I’m feeling the ache of travelling after being stuck in the same place since the Pandemic started. Wondering if anyone is travelling right now? If so, where are you currently located and how is the situation where you are?

Introduce yourself — who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo 4yr 4 years ago  | 672 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, where’ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but they’re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So let’s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • what’s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you don’t want to
But the more you share… The merrier!

Central America - Where and what's next?

by @as11 4yr 4 years ago  | 11 comments

Currently in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and heading to Santa Teressa, Costa Rica next week.
Then Aruba in the Caribbean Sea for Christmas and New Year.

However I feel I want to head back to Central America to bring living costs down, rather than staying in the Caribbean Sea among the expensive Islands.

This means I have around 2 - 2,5 month of unplanned travelling.
Any digital nomads who have ideas about where to head in that timeframe?

Here is the itinerary of our trip to Costa Rica; what would you recommend?

in Costa Rica by @nomad4 5yr 5 years ago  | 2 comments

Hi everybody,

for those who read us in the past, we made some changes to our plan for this winter.
We decided for several reasons to postpone our trip to SEA, and decided to leave for a month in Costa Rica instead. We’ll still be travelling with our 2 kids and will need to work a little as well.

This is our itinerary for the month. 39

For those who’ve been there, how long do you think we should stay at each place?
We were planning roughly:

  • 1 week in Tamarindo/Nosara
  • 2-3 nights in Monteverde
  • 2-3 night closer to the Arenal volcano
  • 2-3 night in Quepos
  • Uvita for undetermined period of time

Do you think there’s a place (among the ones we cited or else) we should consider to stay a little longer?

Thanks

From "selfish nomadism" to "supportive nomadism" — Greece, anyone?

in Greece by @alldreamedup 8yr 8 years ago  | 12 comments

I’m still trying to decide where to go between October and Christmas this year. Too many criteria to handle and at this point no absolute priority is emerging… first world problems. So I turned the “problem” around, instead of thinking selfishly “what can this or that place do for me?” I am now thinking “what can I do for this or that place”? And so… Greece. I visited Athens & the Peloponnese on holidays last year and found some beautiful spots where I could definitely spend a couple of months, and am now thinking: what if there’s a few of us who rent a big house with Internet (preferably by the sea, that priority is pretty much always top of the list for me though I’m flexible) and turn “selfish nomadism” into “supportive nomadism”? I only have a contact in Nafplio for housing, so if you are interested in helping create this and have ideas/suggestions/contacts let me know in a comment! There may be a few practical difficulties, with the current cash shortage… I haven’t studied this in details but here’s a thought, anyway!

Where should I go next? I'm a 25-year old Australian girl working remotely

in Australia by @angsmith 9yr 9 years ago  | 19 comments

I’m a 25 year old Australian girl, newly single, working remotely for a SF startup. I’m looking for a location to settle for the next 6 months, starting in May. All countries are on the table (although stable wifi is required).

I’d love to be by a beach & somewhere that has a relatively bustling vibe, restaurants etc. Bonus points for surf or a gym.

Logistically, I have a visa to be able to stay in the Schengen zone for 4 years so Europe is doable. I guess I’m concerned about it being high season?

I’d love to hear any suggestions.

I gave up my job/place/stuff and am abroad. What should I do next?

by @mainlydana 9yr 9 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi, all

Forgive me, as am not one for brevity. Like so many, I’ve been thinking a lot about being a digital nomad, and find myself in a good position to go for it (better position than most who are considering it, I think), but am still not sure… how/where to start.

Background: In July 2013 I left my home country for long-term travel for the first time. I found out, though I was already 35 at the time, that I was still eligible for a working holiday visa for a handful of countries. I was accepted to New Zealand. So, I quit my job, gave up my apartment, sold or gave away what I could, and have some stuff stored with family. I spent three months in SE Asia then 13 months in New Zealand. Though my background is communications, in NZ I worked in tourism/hospitality which was a fun and refreshing—if low-paying—change of scenery.

Now I’m in Cambodia working in communications for an NGO for six months. I only receive a small monthly stipend but I’d always been curious about NGO work and with the low cost of living here plus some savings built up I thought, why not?

Not content to watch my nest egg slowly drain, I’ve been looking into some freelance work on the side, mostly in writing which seems to be the most common freelance work available based on my background/experience. I also thought now would be an ideal testing ground for freelance work due to my savings plus low overhead

My NGO gig ends in June and I’d love to stay in Cambodia longer, but not overly keen on the 9-to-5 and would love an alternative (either as a telecommuting employee, freelancing, or a mix of both). Even though I made the hardest choice in 2013 with quitting my job and all that and I’m now based somewhere where I can live off a low income for awhile, I don’t know how or where to start.

Due to the “sabbatical” (ie. travel then time in NZ) and in my last few jobs not doing much writing outside of social media content, my writing portfolio is quite dated, which is not helping prove my writing abilities. Also, being in-house so long, I don’t have many contacts that could become potential clients. I actually prefer editing, but the consensus out there seems to be that if the writing is good, then an editor is not needed so there’s less editing work as far as I can tell.

Oh, I should add my comms experience has been in the not-for-profit sector predominantly, so no experience writing marketing- or sales-type copy designed to sell products or services (though certainly willing to try). And one last thing: I’m not an overly confident person, so selling myself does not come easy which is certainly not helping in trying to get work. Some days I feel defeated and that this concept of being a digital nomad is just not attainable for someone like me.

If you read all that, thanks! Tips / advice / suggestions / thoughts / slap upside the head?
