Just interested to see a quick rundown of everyone’s next stop. Where will you be going next and when?
90% am heading to Chiang Mai for the rest of the year… But am still undecided … Fighting the pull of inertia from being in Bangalore for the last 7 years. Will decide in a week!
After a pop up to Chiang Mai for a coupla of weeks am over to Kuala Lumpur for about 1 month, then Hobart, Australia for just a week to see a festival performance I was excited to see happening, then back up northward to…?
Probably Malaysia again if I like it, it being an easy stay in one spot cheaply place for a while for Americans, take any short trips out around that country or over to others as little holidays for a while.
Right now I’m working on debt reduction that developed with the ailing of a passed-now cat so keeping costs low and extra income to plow into that is a big priority, plus purchasing flights back to USA for about 2.5 weeks in the spring.
Is why not more time being made of Australia and also New Zealand, of which I’ve never been to either and am going to attack hard at some point: they’re pricey.
So if anyone is in Kuala Lumpur between roughly Nov 28th and Jan 11-ish, maybe we could do coffee or some such.
Now in Paphos, Cyprus for 5 weeks until just before Christmas…
Alkmaar, The Netherlands on 26th of July
Izmir, Turkey on 2nd of September
Montevideo > Buenos Aires > Santiago > Sao Paulo > Rio … Uruguay has been awesome so far with prepaid LTE along the coast. Work from anywhere you want and don’t worry about wifi.
HCMC VIETNAM and then MEXICOOOOOO! I cannot wait. If anyone wants to do coffee in HCMC or Mexico City I’m well keen
Kyoto - Osaka - Fukuoka! C U on the road!
Tallinn, Estonia until August.
@philippe Ah, I’ll still be in Oxford until mid-July, let me know if you guys want to meet up for a coffee or a pint if you’re here for a bit.
Jamaica in June for a friend’s wedding, then a month or so in various bits of the US, then three in Naha, Okinawa. Possibly Queensland in January, KL or Manila until Central Asia warms up in the spring, and then I’ll head to Almaty or Shymkent.
Barcelona in August 2016 for a 3-month gig, then Marrakech, Fes, Valencia, Lyon (France), Singapore, Chiang Mai, Sydney, Helsinki, Tallinn, Bucharest and Vancouver in 2017.
Amsterdam : Now / February
Chiang Mai : March / May
Kuala Lumpur: June / July
Izmir: Augustus / September
Hey everyone. I just made https://nomadtrips.co as an interface around this thread’s purpose (part of Nomad List). It lets you find if others are or will be staying in the same place as you. And maybe meet up if you like.
It’s live now (although in beta) and you can login as a member of #nomads
Cuba this month (not working there, internet is rubbish), then back to Barcelona for Christmas. Off to Manila, Palawan, Indonesia (suggestions welcome), Boracay, Hong Kong. Will try to fit in Myanmar or Seoul. Holy Week in Seville then back to Barcelona.
Next year (around Feb) I’ll start as a digital nomad. I’ll probably start in UK or Ireland and next step maybe Berlin and east Europe. I think that we will on europe around a year more or less and then, i want to go to Asia for six month on 2017.
We’re heading to Sri Lanka on Sunday (1st Nov) for roughly 4 weeks (unless we extend our visa), then flying to Bangkok and travelling around Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam & Cambodia for roughly 10 weeks & flying to Beijing for Chinese New Year with friends there. We’re then taking 4ish weeks to travel down to Hong Kong before flying to Nepal to volunteer an help rebuild for 6 weeks till we head back to the UK for granny-in-laws 100 birthday…
I’ll be headed to Beijing, Los Angeles, Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Miami, Havana, New York City, Washington, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dubai, and Singapore. Six weeks. I can sleep when I’m dead, I suppose.
Headed to Beijing in November and then to France and Switzerland in December.
Sometime early In November 2k15, Hong Kong & Shenzhen (at least 1 week each)
Currently in Split, Croatia, which I adore. Going to Zadar for a week afterwards, then popping home to the UK as it’s my Mum’s 70th. I haven’t made plans for Nov/Dec yet - I want to go to the Canaries (chasing the sunshine!), but accommodation is looking expensive. So currently in planning/thinking mode. Any suggestions for a good (read: warm) nomad base in Europe for Nov/Dec?
I’ll be in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria throughout the winter. My rent is around £210 a month, so not expensive… Initially I was trying to find a place in Tenerife and found it hard going. I suppose it depends on which of the islands you’re interested in.
Im from Las Palmas de GC. and my girl is from Tenerife. If you need help with somethin, you can write me via skype: rmahugo
Each island is particular. If you have time, I recommend you visit Lanzarote and Fuerteventura for enjoy the beach
Thank you! Less than a month to go, and I’m really looking forward to it.
I’m in Prague now and likely heading to Split next! Are you still there? Any pro-tips for me?
Mauritius around May next year. My home island. It will be tough as haven’t been there for over 10 years and have no friends or home there. Have checked AirBnb and it’s flip expensive (tourist destination honeymoon etc…). Anyone there too, let me know. Can show you around.
Currently on Koh Lanta, which has become one our favorite islands for life/work. Will stay here another month and then planning to visit family in Melbourne. Might stop in KL for a bit first.
October: Romania (Sibiu)
November: Croatia (Zadar)
Going to Zurich for a quick conference and then back to Berlin. Then, off to Tokyo in two weeks!
My brother and I are in Split for a month from today - so if anyone wants to grab a beer, give me a shout.
After that I’ll be in Cape Town in November for six weeks.
We need some flight map / calendar here
Prague next week - then Romania (including Vama Veche - if you don’t know it, do it) for a few weeks, and possible some other places in Eastern Europe. Hit me up if you’re in the area!
Just landed in Barcelona last night. Maybe South Africa when my tourist visa runs out.
We go to Taiwan then a few weeks in Japan
Ha ha. I think it depends on the cats. I’ve not had much trouble, although there have been some quirks. Cats who are jealous of each other, for instance. And the young cat who liked to chase foxes… The last time that I was looking after cats, the morning of my departure both the cats were annoyed with me when they saw that I was leaving - I think they felt betrayed - and they both gave me the cold shoulder. That was hard!
My friend’s cat has cancer and has lost a heap of weight so he feeds her whatever she wants. She knows it and has 2 mouthfuls of food then wants something else.
Animals definitely do that. My sister’s dog gets funny as soon as the suitcases come out.
That sounds heartbreaking. …
I’m heading to Tokyo on the 8th for 2 months, followed by touring around Japan with a hop to Hong Kong then back to Tokyo. Not sure how long I’ll stay the second time because winter in Tokyo is harsh.
I’ve got a few more days in a wonderful village in the south of France (south of France but up in the hills - it’s heavenly!), to be followed by a few days in Montpellier, then a little more than a month in Belgium, looking after a couple of cats (no rent, so i can save for the next stop), followed by a little more than a month in London - still trying to plug the accommodation gap there - followed by four months in Gran Canaria, followed by a few weeks in London again, then a few weeks in the US, and yes, I’ve got more than half a year plotted out already, but then I’m wide open again!
Ha, I’ve just been cat sitting for a friend in Geneva while he was away. I thought it’d be easy… I was fooled. Cats are hard work!
I fly into Bangkok September 29 and will be in Thailand through December 23. I’m leaving my itinerary fairly open for the time being but hope to spend most of my time in Chiang Mai and Koh Lanta. I’d love to touch base with anyone else who will be in Thailand at the same time!
Just returned to Beijing from a visa run to Hong Kong. Will be here for another 3-4 weeks then heading to KL.
Starting my nomadic journey next week, starting in Hossegor on the west coast of France for a monthish!
I just spent 10 weeks in Hossegor
Ahh no way, I’ve been trying to keep my eyes open for Digital Nomads in the area Where are you off to now?
I just got back to the west of Ireland yesterday, freezing! Was staying in Angresse near Soorts. Pity I only just found this site bro. Dont know my next move, might spin down to Co.Clare for a couple of weeks then im going back to the sun. Maybe Croatia. Where you off to next?
Niceee sounds like a solid plan. I’m probably going to head down to San Sebastian next and spend a couple of weeks there. Basically just going to be following the surf down the coast of Spain and Portugal over the next couple of months.
Cool cool, done that a couple of time but not as a DN, camping surfing and dossing in the sun years ago… You will love San Sebastian.
How did you find Hossegor? Good place to work / meet people? Cheers
Hong Kong on Wednesday for 4 days then Vancouver/Victoria, Canada for the next 2 months.
Bali in Sept - mid-October, then Sri Lanka for about 2 months
I’m in London (actually Orpington) for the rest of August. Ping me if you’re up for a pint!
Having left my job of 24 years at the end of 2014, I set off on a six month round the world trip, which is coming to an end. I plan to spend some time with family and friends in the UK, before spending the rest of 2015 in Penang, Malaysia. If there are anyone based here, and would like to meet up, please let me know. I was there for 3 weeks earlier in the year, and loved the food, atmosphere, and friendliness of the locals.
I spent 3 months in Penang some years ago! It’s definitely a great place to stay
@jchatard It is funny how places stand out to you as you’re travelling. I never felt comfortable with Thailand, but Penang and Kuala Lumpur felt completely different to me.
Yeah I don’t know, the atmosphere and of course, as you said… The food is just amazing in Penang!!
Heading to Da Nang, Vietname in September. and then Hong Kong in October. Are there anyone in Da Nang can meet with us in September?
Quite a rough schedule (winter is coming, you know):
Oct+Nov’15: Alanya, Turkey
Dec+Jan: Goa (Mandrem)
We’re first time abroad. Any advises are welcome!
I’ll be in South Korea from 10 to 25 October 2015. Stopping by Seoul, Jeju, Busan, and maybe Gwangju.
I’m going to Nepal in two weeks, anyone near Katmandu the last 3 weeks of August?
I’ll be moving around of course, but it would be great to catch up.
And of course if someone is aware of a nice café or place to work, any advice is more than welcome!
Headed to San Francisco, then off to Missouri for Christmas. Down to Rio de Janeiro for Carnival on a 2 month stopover
Los Angeles > Las Vegas > San Francisco > New York > Louisville > Sydney > float around Australia > Perth > Koh Samui > Miami > Tokyo > Beijing > Bangkok > Dubai > Prague > Greece > Ibiza > Barcelona > Miami > we’ll see from there.
Partner and I are travelling in France/Austria now but coming to Chiang Mai for August. I have some studies to finish and we really need to organise our digital lives. Chiang Mai is the place, we’ve decided
Currently in Ho Chi Minh and will be staying here for some time
(Just as a sidenote: I’m aware of the community rules, and I believe that the idea is absolutely relevant in the context of this discussion I hope admins will agree!)
Are you planning to visit multiple cities within next couple of months and looking for co-working spaces to work and expand your network?
We are currently working on an idea (MyNomadPass) which will give access to multiple co-working spaces around the World and we are trying to validate it right now with different nomads. So, if the first paragraph describes you, please “r” to me and let’s talk more about it!
I’m in San Francisco for the next four months! I’ll be in Copenhagen next week and then Portland in September. Taking advantage that I’m in California and trying to explore the big state plus surrounding areas.
I just got back from a visa run to Macau last night back to Chiang Mai where I plan on staying most likely until December.
Not sure where i’m going to go for Christmas yet, but maybe South Africa to do a proper safari and visit my gf’s family. Plus it’s summer there in Dec.
Other than that, i’m pretty happy in Chiang Mai until then with just a side trip down to Krabi for the dropshipping retreat in October.

Don’t have much plans from there.
I’ll be on various “europe trips” in June-August. Budapest, Amsterdam, Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, Italy are the initial plans ;]

I'm preparing my Portuguese D7 long-term visa application and one of the required documents is proof of travel insurance with medical coverage. However, as an Australian citizen, if put that as my country of residence in many travel insurance companies' quick quote forms, I'm unable to get ANY insurance coverage at all because of the current travel ban out of Australia, and the Australian govt's 'Do Not Travel' advice to ALL countries. I know that Aussies are applying for, and successfully getting visas from the Portuguese Consulate here, so where and how are they fulfilling this insurance requirement if insurers aren't selling any coverage? Does anybody know or have any ideas?
I am new to working out of coworking spaces. My business entails a lot of video conferences. I haven't chosen a specific coworking space yet but generally, what are the potential solutions for this? I have a microphone and headphones but still fell like it may be inconsiderate to take the calls anywhere in the coworking space. For a solo person, what are some general solutions? Are there usually options to rent a private room by the hour with just enough room to set up my microphone and laptop? Sidenote: any coworking space recommendations in Florianapolis, Brazil would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have two passports from different countries and am trying to understand where can I travel now. Is there a publicly available map of countries open for visitors by passport country that I can use to see what are my options? I was pretty sure such a thing should exist, but cannot easily find any.
Maybe at least there're maps for specific passports? Mine are Russian and American.
If there's no such thing, I'd be down to build one, let me know if interested to collaborate :)
After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.
We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)
Hi there, title says it all. Canadian nomad hoping to find the city/town in Portugal with great, consistent surfing, a solid coworking spot, and a fun group of young nomads. Please recommend!
Hey Nomads, would love to know any thoughts here.
Top of the list are currently Tenerife, Lagos/Ericeira (Portugal) & Malta??
Would love to know if anyone can vouch for these at this time of year.
Beautiful beach would be the dream. Basically European Bali! I'm sure something many of us are searching for.
Thanks a million. Much love.
Does anyone ever travel to any Islands like Bermuda, Barbados, Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis?
I'm in need of a tax advisor who understands "our" typical situation. I'm all good on being legal on taxes at this point, but as I'm doing more investing and there's more compliance and KYC and such, it's getting more complicated to deal with this topic. Not living in my country of citizenship, company in another country, resident in yet another country, banking in a different country ... you know how it is, a pile of red flags.
Would be great to find a good tax advisor to sort things in a way that makes my situation as "explainable" and easily dealt with as possible. Any leads?
Hi all, my husband and I have been living in Bulgaria for the past month and were hoping to travel to Greece next. Have any UK nationals entered Greece lately? I believe that anyone entering Greece requires a negative COVID test 72 hours before travel - is this what they are requiring at the borders please? (Reason we ask is for Bulgaria we filled out forms but weren't asked for them) Thanks.
tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.
We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.
You know the ones - where are you from, where’ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.
The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but they’re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.
So let’s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?
No need to answer them all if you don’t want to
But the more you share… The merrier!
Currently in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and heading to Santa Teressa, Costa Rica next week.
Then Aruba in the Caribbean Sea for Christmas and New Year.
However I feel I want to head back to Central America to bring living costs down, rather than staying in the Caribbean Sea among the expensive Islands.
This means I have around 2 - 2,5 month of unplanned travelling.
Any digital nomads who have ideas about where to head in that timeframe?
for those who read us in the past, we made some changes to our plan for this winter.
We decided for several reasons to postpone our trip to SEA, and decided to leave for a month in Costa Rica instead. We’ll still be travelling with our 2 kids and will need to work a little as well.
This is our itinerary for the month.
For those who’ve been there, how long do you think we should stay at each place?
We were planning roughly:
Do you think there’s a place (among the ones we cited or else) we should consider to stay a little longer?
Magali and Guillaume
I’m still trying to decide where to go between October and Christmas this year. Too many criteria to handle and at this point no absolute priority is emerging… first world problems. So I turned the “problem” around, instead of thinking selfishly “what can this or that place do for me?” I am now thinking “what can I do for this or that place”? And so… Greece. I visited Athens & the Peloponnese on holidays last year and found some beautiful spots where I could definitely spend a couple of months, and am now thinking: what if there’s a few of us who rent a big house with Internet (preferably by the sea, that priority is pretty much always top of the list for me though I’m flexible) and turn “selfish nomadism” into “supportive nomadism”? I only have a contact in Nafplio for housing, so if you are interested in helping create this and have ideas/suggestions/contacts let me know in a comment! There may be a few practical difficulties, with the current cash shortage… I haven’t studied this in details but here’s a thought, anyway!
I’m a 25 year old Australian girl, newly single, working remotely for a SF startup. I’m looking for a location to settle for the next 6 months, starting in May. All countries are on the table (although stable wifi is required).
I’d love to be by a beach & somewhere that has a relatively bustling vibe, restaurants etc. Bonus points for surf or a gym.
Logistically, I have a visa to be able to stay in the Schengen zone for 4 years so Europe is doable. I guess I’m concerned about it being high season?
I’d love to hear any suggestions.
Forgive me, as am not one for brevity. Like so many, I’ve been thinking a lot about being a digital nomad, and find myself in a good position to go for it (better position than most who are considering it, I think), but am still not sure… how/where to start.
Background: In July 2013 I left my home country for long-term travel for the first time. I found out, though I was already 35 at the time, that I was still eligible for a working holiday visa for a handful of countries. I was accepted to New Zealand. So, I quit my job, gave up my apartment, sold or gave away what I could, and have some stuff stored with family. I spent three months in SE Asia then 13 months in New Zealand. Though my background is communications, in NZ I worked in tourism/hospitality which was a fun and refreshing—if low-paying—change of scenery.
Now I’m in Cambodia working in communications for an NGO for six months. I only receive a small monthly stipend but I’d always been curious about NGO work and with the low cost of living here plus some savings built up I thought, why not?
Not content to watch my nest egg slowly drain, I’ve been looking into some freelance work on the side, mostly in writing which seems to be the most common freelance work available based on my background/experience. I also thought now would be an ideal testing ground for freelance work due to my savings plus low overhead
My NGO gig ends in June and I’d love to stay in Cambodia longer, but not overly keen on the 9-to-5 and would love an alternative (either as a telecommuting employee, freelancing, or a mix of both). Even though I made the hardest choice in 2013 with quitting my job and all that and I’m now based somewhere where I can live off a low income for awhile, I don’t know how or where to start.
Due to the “sabbatical” (ie. travel then time in NZ) and in my last few jobs not doing much writing outside of social media content, my writing portfolio is quite dated, which is not helping prove my writing abilities. Also, being in-house so long, I don’t have many contacts that could become potential clients. I actually prefer editing, but the consensus out there seems to be that if the writing is good, then an editor is not needed so there’s less editing work as far as I can tell.
Oh, I should add my comms experience has been in the not-for-profit sector predominantly, so no experience writing marketing- or sales-type copy designed to sell products or services (though certainly willing to try). And one last thing: I’m not an overly confident person, so selling myself does not come easy which is certainly not helping in trying to get work. Some days I feel defeated and that this concept of being a digital nomad is just not attainable for someone like me.
If you read all that, thanks! Tips / advice / suggestions / thoughts / slap upside the head?
