Old San Juan's architecture is lovely. Although it's as pricey as a US mainland city, the food is good and the coffee is excellent. Locals can vary in friendliness quite a bit -- although being brusque with someone from the US mainland is entirely understandable. Uber works perfectly well. The museums have very inexpensive admissions fees. All in all, a good destination for a shorter (3 weeks or less) trip. But not a place with a digital nomad community or lots of cultural activities.

Warm weather, good internet, relatively safe although crime is increasing due to higher unemployment, public transport is unreliable, cost of living is very high, sexual harassment of women is very common, quality of food is very low. Nice place overall but there are certainly better value for money alternatives, even in the Caribbean.

HOWEVER, Santo Domingo is the capital of the country. Just like most Capitals in Latin America (Mexico City being the exception), it's not worth visiting much time. If you want to experience what the Dominican Republic has to offer (Beaches, Nature, Friendly Locals) as a nomad I would recommend Las Terrenas or Cabarete.

Jarabacoa is an amazing town. It has a lot of local tourism from Dominicans so there are a lot of excursions like horseback riding, rafting, excursions, waterfalls, parasailing and more. Not as humid as other places in DR. Wouldnt stay here more than 2 weeks unless you are really into outdoorish mountains

I have heard of "nomads" coming here for a month and dropping 2k on a T1, while at most it shouldn't exceed 800 euros in the centre of Lisbon, which even like others have noted is an insane amount for locals. For visiting tourists, the best neighborhood to stay in is NOT Bushwick. Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Ft. Green or Brooklyn Heights is preferable. Plenty of good transportation in those areas - subway, buses or Uber. Easy access to beaches in Long Island and New Jersey. There's plenty to do in NYC.
