What comes to your mind when you think of Serbia?

in Serbia by @srg_b | 4yr  | 11 comments

Hey folks, weโ€™re starting up a coworking community in Sombor, northern Serbia (www.fabrika.org.rs/coworking/). Weโ€™re trying to figure out what is the first thing that comes to mind, so that we can address any prevelant concerns, assumptions, generally, handle them in a better way. Our country is not well known, so understanding how others percieve it will help us develop our community in a better way.

So, in all honesty, what is the first thing that comes to mind when I say โ€œSerbiaโ€, good or bad (I wonโ€™t be offended  )

Thx!

Iโ€™ve never been there, but I canโ€™t help but imagine it being very similar to Croatia (which I have visited).

So thatโ€™s what I thinkโ€ฆ Croatia. But not the coastal Croatia, more like the central.

I also think of โ€œoldโ€ and โ€œEastern Europeโ€ and โ€œRussian Orthodoxโ€ when I think of old buildings and churches. But I could be mistaken.

Iโ€™d love to visit, I was so close to it last September, but didnโ€™t get a chance to go

Good luck with the coworking community!

I spent 3 months in Belgrade last summer and loved it.

Not sure if I would get bored in such a small town though. You have to sell us more on the place.

Thanks bobz! Come visit, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll enjoy. Sombor is quite similar to Slavonija I think, but with more Hungarian influence. sign up on the link above to stay informed

From what Iโ€™ve gathered above, itโ€™s got an unfavorable reputation based on recent history, but people would not be averse to exploring it. Any other opinions?

Serbia competes in Eurovision! You had a nice song in 2011 called Caroban, I ran into the singer Nina and she was incredibly friendly. She has kept in contact with some of my friends too. The 2015 Serbian song was good too, the crowd was absolutely electric during the second half of the song.

Iโ€™ve never been to Serbia, but maybe Iโ€™ll make it there one day.

Beautiful. Itโ€™s a lovely country with friendly people. But it definitely has a bit of a dark reputation give the โ€˜recentโ€™ history.

For me it would be โ€œmysteriousโ€. I just donโ€™t know much about it. Where should I start?

I hate to say this but to me itโ€™s associated with WWI, Russian influence, Croatia war. Still, itโ€™s all history now, so Iโ€™m not averse to visiting and exploring.

What's the best thing to do with your phone/ your phone number when travelling?

in Poland by @davda1546 | 6d 6 days ago | 6 comments

Hey, hope everyone is well!

We're leaving in a month to go travelling. Our first destination is still to be confirmed, but will likely be Poland or Slovakia. We will be moving around every month or two to different destinations.

The question we have is: what do people do with phones/ phone numbers when hopping from country to country? Ideally we'd just like one number for the whole trip (even better, the number we already have) wherever we go, rather than getting new SIMs with different numbers.

This is just so it's easier to keep in contact with family/ clients/ etc.

Where do I get good legal advice/support to have a long-term stay?

in Lisbon, Portugal by @mzorrilla | 1mo 1 month ago | 1 comment

Hello, everyone!

My idea is to stay as low as 6 months and as long as a year (maybe, who knows) over Lisbon after doing some analysis from many cities in Europe.

I'm an Argentinian and Chilean (both nationalities) so... no Euro-pass for me (getting my Italian nationality could take 2 years easily). I'm also a remote worker and I have a really good income (I work for a Silicon Valley company) so I can show more than enough resources to stay in the country.

Everything I see online doesn't inspire me much confidence (most sites looks a bit scammy) and this is not a "vacation stay"... I want to be clear my head far away from Argentina right now. If someone has a good website, recommendations, etc I will super appreciate.

Thanks in advance!
