Where can you do cheap laundry in Shanghai?

in Shanghai , China by @levelsio 8yr  | 6 comments

My hotel is charging like 500RMB ($7USD) for a t-shirt, haha. So I need to find a cheap laundry place a la Thailand, here in Shanghai. Iโ€™m in the Jingโ€™an area. Anyone knows?

Try Laundrytown. They offer free pickup and delivery. I think the rate for โ€œwash & foldโ€ is 25RMB per kg. They operate in several cities in Asia including Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Tokyo, Singapore and KL.

Ah you may find that a bit tough at Jingโ€™an hotel Iโ€™m afraid, itโ€™s an upmarket part of town and as youโ€™ve definitely noticed Shanghaiโ€™s a different world than Thailand.

There are lots of hole in the wall dry cleaners scattered around the place who should do you a load of laundry for around 50 yuan or less. Ask a local to help you find a ๆด—่กฃๆœๅบ— xว yฤซfรบ diร n literally โ€˜clothes wash shopโ€™ not sure if thatโ€™s the perfect Chinese but itโ€™ll work.

Otherwise the classic travelerโ€™s trick of washing 'em in the sink then leaving them to dry.

Good luck, and welcome to the the Hai!

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Cheap Cities in Mexico & South America with Fastest Wifi

in Mexico by @jnomad30 5yr 5 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi Guys,
Iโ€™m planning out my next stops after leaving Medellin, Colombia soon where I can hunker down and get some work done with fast wifi and cheap living. Will be in Mexico first so starting a look there but wondering if coming back down to South America might make more sense?
My main concerns are budget and fast enough wifi for me to work from home. Other considerations are some nomad community (ideally also some English speaking expats as my Spanish is basic) and warm enough weather.
Thanks in advance!

Co-working space in Shanghai WITHOUT monthly payment

in Shanghai , China by @katrin 5yr 5 years ago  | 0 comments

Daily/hourly pass needed.
Canโ€™t work in normal cafรฉ because having clientโ€™s laptop for security reasons, canโ€™t use open networks. Working for R&D. Also laptop is so huge it doesnโ€™t fit normal cafe environment because itโ€™s far from discreet.

Where to buy Sony A7RIII, Macbook Pro ... CHEAPEST :)

by @vesko89 6yr 6 years ago  | 1 comment

Ola!
I am starting soon with my Digital Nomad Lifestyle and I need to buy a lot of gear.

  • Sony A7RIII + Lenses
  • MacBook Pro

  • Drone DJI Phantom 4 Pro

This are the most expensive parts.

So in which Country should I buy the stuff? I am living in Germany at the moment and its not really cheap here. Would be great to save some money and see the country. 2 Flys with 1 Punch

Thanks for your time!

Best wishes Vesko

Cheapest flight path to Bali from West Coast, US?

by @metamas 7yr 7 years ago  | 2 comments

Iโ€™m making plans to travel from Portland, OR to Canggu, Bali in a little over a month. Looking around at flights now. Can anyone lend experience on the most affordable flight path (airports and airlines) to take?

I subscribe to Scottโ€™s Cheap Flights, but nothing obvious has shown up in that direction (Portland, OR -> Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -> Bali ???). Iโ€™ve so far just been looking with Google Flights + Momondo. Any other tips from more experienced travelers are much appreciated.

If youโ€™ll be in Canggu Sep/Oct, Iโ€™ll return any favors with tasty eats and cold drinks :tropical_drink: :stew:

Anyone Else in China?

in China by @nathanthomas 8yr 8 years ago  | 12 comments

Hi Team,

Iโ€™m totally new here so forgive me if Iโ€™ve made some horrible faux pas by asking a question so soon

Iโ€™m a kiwi but have been a digital nomad for over three years now, and have spent the last year or so in China, currently in Shanghai.

Are there many other digital nomads in this part of the world? Most of the international friends Iโ€™ve made locally are students or corpo expats, Iโ€™ve not come across that many entrepreneurial / nomadic types here - the visa and internet issues certainly make this understandable, though the country very much rewards long term travel.

Would be curious to see if there are many other like minded folk here?

Cheers,
Nathan

Can Europeans also fly cheaper using credit cards and gain miles?

by @rxs 8yr 8 years ago  | 3 comments

I hear more and more about digital nomads (mainly from the US and Canada) flying cheap (almost for free) by taking advantage of bonuses given by banks / credit card companies. Iโ€™m not exactly sure how the system works.

Is it also possible to do for Europeans ? If so, how ?
If not, do know any other hacks to fly cheaper ?

Many thanks for your help.

What is the cheapest option to get out of Colombia for 1-2 weeks and come back

in Colombia by @matthieudrula 8yr 8 years ago  | 6 comments

Hi,
This is quite a specific question but can be generic in term of method.
I need to get some time out of Bogota so I can come on the remaining days of my touristic visa in order to enrol in a cheapest university to study Spanish.
So basically going out for 2 weeks, come back, do the papers during the 3 remaining weeks.
Iโ€™m trying to find the cheapest flight + hotel combination for this period of time using Nomadlist.
Anybody has a better method/experience?

How to exchange money cheaply?

by @neutron 8yr 8 years ago  | 26 comments

Just thought I would give a tip for something thats been amazingly useful for me recently.

Itโ€™s basically a pre-paid debit card, where itโ€™s free to exchange into Euro GBP and Dollar.

There are no costs to use it. You upload money into it and then it exchanges it at โ€œinter-bank ratesโ€ - the same rates as the banks get I believe.

No commisions, No costs, No discrepancies in FX rates.

I reckon I must have saved around ยฃ150 this month in various fees for things.

Another good one is transferwise - if you have to send money direct to someones bank account - there are charges but very small (like ยฃ2 to send ยฃ400)

Hope it can help a few people out there and give the banks a good duff up at the same time

How do you manage your laundry?

by @jeanbog 8yr 8 years ago  | 10 comments

Hello ! :slightly_smiling:

I am wondering how do you manage your laundry work flow.

I ask this question because since I investigate the minimalist way of life I only have 4 teeshirts.
So I changed my habits and I wash my teeshirt, my boxer and my socks while taking a shower (takes me 6 more minutes).

How about you ?
Are you reducing your laundry flow, like by wearing merinos wool clothes ?
Are you going to lavomatic one time a week because you have enough clothes for all the week ?
Are you going to lavomatic more often that once a week because you have only few clothes ?
Are you handwashing your clothers ? how and how often ?
