I have a month between Playa del Carmen and Medellin, and Iโm deciding which city to be. Itโs on november so itโs summer in this region, what do you guys choose?
ps. just in case, Mexico is not south american

What I mean is, for example, since most of the EU has banned Americans, if I live in Guatemala and will be traveling FROM Guatemala to the EU, could I get in? Or does the ban count for all Americans regardless of where they live?
I'm a dual citizen of America and France with my resident based in the America. Can I travel to the EU using my French passport?
Currently in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and heading to Santa Teressa, Costa Rica next week.
Then Aruba in the Caribbean Sea for Christmas and New Year.
However I feel I want to head back to Central America to bring living costs down, rather than staying in the Caribbean Sea among the expensive Islands.
This means I have around 2 - 2,5 month of unplanned travelling.
Any digital nomads who have ideas about where to head in that timeframe?
Hi!
I am planning to move to Latin America for 3-4 months (Oct-January). Iโve narrowed down 6 different places that I want to visit before committing to settling down, but Iโd love to get some community input.
Here are the cities Iโm considering:
The most important things Iโm looking for:
Anyone have any experience with these places and can give some insight? Iโm also completely open to other recommendations.
Thanks!
Rose
Iโm surprised this isnโt anywhere on the forum yet. But just a pro tip for Americans about to start a nomad adventure. T-mobile offers unlimited SMS & data in 120 countries for FREE with any of their (already pretty cheap) plans. Itโs ideal if you plan to be back in the US for any part of the year, but I honestly would consider it even if youโre going to be entirely out of the country.
You get bumped down to much slower 3G speeds, but itโs free and works as soon as you land. Can be super helpful before youโve sorted yourself out with a local SIM. I usually keep my T-mobile SIM in my iPhone all the time and then buy a local SIM and drop it in my pocket wifi for both laptop and iPhone when needed. I keep my local US number and just use it (itโs like $0.05/min in most places) for important clients calls so they donโt have to bother with Skype.
Iโm not affiliated at all, just a happy customer. Anybody found a better deal worth mentioning?
Hi Guys,
Iโm planning out my next stops after leaving Medellin, Colombia soon where I can hunker down and get some work done with fast wifi and cheap living. Will be in Mexico first so starting a look there but wondering if coming back down to South America might make more sense?
My main concerns are budget and fast enough wifi for me to work from home. Other considerations are some nomad community (ideally also some English speaking expats as my Spanish is basic) and warm enough weather.
Thanks in advance!
Hi guys!
Weโre leaving on Dec 1st for a 5-month DN experience with our kids, but we have second thoughts on our journey. We were supposed to do a trip in South-East Asia (Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia). Weโre from Canada, and our clients are all in Canada right now (weโre digital marketing consultants).
After comparing destinations, weโre starting the think Latin America may be a better choice to make sure we keep most of our clients during these 5 months (same timezone). Also, it seems Latin America fits our needs too :
So here are our 2 options ; which one would you recommend for our criteria?
A: SEA : Thailand (Chiang Mai and a couple islands in the South), Indonesia (Bali and Lombok), Malaysia (Penang)
B: Latin America : Mexico (Playa Del Carmen/Tulum), Colombia (Medellin), Peru (Lima and other TBD towns), Chile (Santiago and other TBD towns), Argentina (Buenos Aires and other TBD towns).
Thanks!
Hello,
Iโve been searching through the forum, but most of the information Iโve found seems a little old and Americans, unfortunately, seem to be exceptions to a lot of things.
Situation:
Iโll start a new job with a 1-2 year contract outside the US in about a month, I:
am a US citizen - it is the only passport I hold
have been using my parentsโ address (Texas) as my official address for the past few years.
will be on-sight in South East Asia, but officially billed as a private contractor for the company.
will make less than the cut-off amount for the American tax exemption in next year. It is realistic to assume based on my career, though, that in the coming years I will be over that mark.
plan to qualify for the 330 rolling days outside of the US
Donโt plan to return to the US for at least the next several years, maybe ever for residency.
From research so far, it looks like the best options for me are Belize, though I see a lot of people talking about Hong Kong or Singapore. I know that within the US, Delaware LLCโs are easy to set up, and may be a good short-term option since Iโll likely qualify for the foreign tax exemption in 2018.
I would love to talk to anyone that has some experience with this as my head is spinning a little bit. Website recommendations would also be great (there is a lot of information out there, but figuring out what is and isnโt sketchy is a bit harrowing - has anyone worked with, like Nomad Capitalist or Flag Theory before?).
Thanks!!

The last few years Iโve spent mostly in Asia (Thailand/Indonesia) and Europe (Spain/Italy), but I run a company in the US and need to coordinate with 10 US based employees and business partners. The time zone issues between EU/US and SEA/US are exhausting even if I love the locales.
Iโd really like to try romping around the Americas for a while, but Iโve never been south of Baja California and really canโt find much positive having been said about remotely working from CA/SA as a DN.
I know some hippy, surfer, artist, musician, yoga teacher types calling various locals home, but no one making a living onlineโฆ more than a few people have told me itโs fabulous down there until you go to Thailand/Bali and then you wonder why all those ExPats are suffering in CA/SA. Of course you only really know when you go yourself.
Iโd love to see nomadlist.io get filled out with more details on Central and South American cities. It seems really sparse coverage at the moment, but maybe thatโs simply because itโs not good and no one stays there for long.
Hi everyone,
If you have a U.S. tax question or would like some U.S. tax insight on your business/structure, ask away!
I have been preparing tax returns for US citizens abroad since 2012. I can answer any question in US tax with an international flavor. I operate 1040abroad.com and I have maintained a blog at taxsamurai.com
I look forward to answering all your questions. And if you are in Ho Chi Minh City in December, letโs meet !!!
Hey guys โ Iโm looking for the best cheap places to be a digital nomad in Central and South America. Priority list: 1) cheap 2) social 3) strong internet. Iโm in debt and need to cut my cost of living as low as possible. But hey, I still have to live it up. THanks!
Im looking to make my first venture into nomad living this September and keep leaning back towards Bocas del Toro.
Does anyone have experience setting up shop there? Iโm open to other warm weather surf towns as well
Starting a SaaS company that assists the operation of service based industries so being near some other SaaS people would be wonderful. (First time starting a tech company)
I am deep in the search from Mexico to Barbados, Cayman Islands to Columbia.
Anyone know of a hostel with good internet on the beach or a co-living house happening?
Iโm hoping to get some suggestions from some outdoor enthusiasts whoโve spent time in South America. Itโs important that the places I travel have mid-sized city amenities (public transportation, decent grocery stores, safety, fast internet, etc) but also be located a stoneโs throw from the outdoors, preferably mountains or large parks. This is a tough combination to find because the two usually go hand in hand!
Elsewhere in the world, Iโve enjoyed destinations like Innsbruck, Austria, Cape Town, South Africa, and Bergen, Norway because you can be downtown having a beer one minute and thenโฆ boomโฆ up the mountain in the middle of nowhere 15 minutes later. However, Iโve never been to South America and am looking for some advice from outdoor-minded travelers. Iโm looking at Mendoza, Argentina and San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina and would love some advice from other people whoโve been to these places on whether or not they might fit the criteria Iโm looking for.
Has anyone come across similar places theyโd recommend? Thanks in advance for the help!
Hello everyone, I usually carry my laptop in my day backpack, walk around the town in my home country (Poland) and work in coffee shops / shopping centers, other quiet places I find or like.
My question is, how would carrying around my laptop on myself every day around the town work in practice in those places in terms of safety in South America.
I prefer to travel by a city communication than taxis and like to walk around too, but my concern is that I will get blatantly robbed with a gun or knife in a side street and lose my whole backpack with a laptop.
If anyone living in those cities could share their experience about how likely this situation is to occur, as obviously being white and foreign will make me stand out in the first place.
Is there anyone around who spends most of their time in Latin America? After short trips to Peru earlier this year, Iโve now come back to Lima to stay for another three months and will then head to Buenos Aires. Lima will be kind of my home base but I aim to explore as much as possible of Latin America in the next couple of years. No interest in Asia, Africa or North America and no intention to go back to Europe.
I am currently living in Medellin until February. I want to find some of people favorite spots for surfing and community. I have heard Nicaragua and Guatemala have many options.
Multiple one month or more stays in countries below the US (CA, SA, Caribbean as all?). Spanish isnโt a problem. Safety, internet, and surf are priorities. Ive heard good things about Panama and CR but they amount of gringos currently in these places is sort of a turn off (Im a gringoโฆbut that is my preference). Budget is sub $1500/month.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Ryne
Hi,
Iโm looking for places in Central and South America that have more of a hippy vibe - yoga, good vegetarian/vegan food and good internet.
Let me know where youโve been.
Hello fellow Nomads!
Iโd like to be more than just a Shengen stamp in the EU. What are the easiest ways/countries to be an EU resident (perhaps even permanent).
I heard you can buy cheaper property in Bulgaria or a business in Lithuania. Does anyone have suggestions?
Happy Nomading!
Andrew
