Arrived in Bangkok, booked a place in Khaosan and instantly regretted it, got no sleep with the music shaking my room until 6am. So i bailed with no refund and just jumped right to pattaya, did not regret it one bit. My first hotel in Northern Jomtien was elegant and relaxing, 5 star experience, i spent christmas there. After a while i start to get sick of all the sex tourism, its lonely and boring when every girl you meet is a part of the red light and i dont feel i fit in with all the sleazy retirees. Hard to find a decent cocktail so i move to south jomtien spend my days smoking weed on the beach and make friends with the one bartender girl who treats me like a human being and not a cash grab. All in all, not a bad experience. Oh, and my apartment building got set on fire at one point. |

Back in KL again. I love this city but things are far more expensive now than last time, I don't feel it has the same value anymore. I stayed outside of Bukit Bintang this time, big mistake. Pudu has nothing but chinese restaurants, no variety, no spice of life, it lacks the multiculturalism that makes KL so great. And besides, the better Chinese food is on Petaling Jaya street. |

Supposed to be a 2 night layover, turned into 5 nights. Hotels weren't cheap but still surprisingly affordable, about 40-50$ a night last minute for an also surprisingly comfortable and clean accommodation, felt like staying at a holiday inn. Stayed near the giant convention center when everything was eerily empty. The people i did talk to were very polite and friendly but they all felt like they were friendly under duress rather than by choice. None of them genuinely wanted to be there, none of them felt free and all saw the restrictions as a regrettable side effect of their pursuit of wealth, and everyone constantly warned me of the giant list of things i could do that would get me arrested. Despite the superficially comfortable exterior, I felt incredibly uncomfortable in Abu Dhabi, unable to even be myself and even filthy ass Mumbai was a step up--it was an absolute shithole, but at least it felt free. It says something when even the 1 emirati i met wanted to reminisce about his time going to school in santa monica because it reminded him of happier times. Even the people who benefit the most from the wealth from Abu Dhabi at the end of the day prefer freer pastures. |

2nd time to Tokyo in 2 years. So much to see and do and great value in the past few years due to a declining yen against the USD & Euro. Wework (not open past 6pm & only iceberg open on weekends), Airalo Esim, and Wise Visa are your friend. Check out my Youtube for some nomad guides (Chicvoyage, @digitalnomadworld). I like Roppongi area. Stay in a hotel

This city is not for everyone, if you like shopping malls and big crowded cities it is for you. It may be cheap but if you want to live in a good location with swimming pool, go to nice rooftops and restaurants, use taxis then it is similar cost to western countries. In many areas there are no sidewalks, big and dangerous traffic all the time, pollution, taxis do not want to go with meter, it can get really hot. Definitely try to live by the metro.
