@cephei when I had residency in Turkey I had a cover for everything that happened to me while in Turkey with 0.- premium. I could show up to any public hospital or health center and be treated (which I did for minor things and it worked perfectly). On top of that, I had an international health insurance for when I was not in Turkey. Both together costed less than the Swiss health insurance and would cover me better with no premium. Swiss people think their system is the best, they just never went elsewhere I guess.

@norydev well, I am aware that there are awesome solutions abroad. Fortunately I almost never need medical attention. I am not talking about breaking a leg. I wouldn't care to be in a Thai hospital for 7-8 weeks. What I meant is more like a serious injury that affects you over years. I would want to be with my family and in a Swiss hospital. There's "Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil" for example which is one of the best in the world. And various leading cancer treatment facilities. I see the bill more of a preventive plan for when I'll be old. Now I'm paying to support the eldery who need the medical attention, later I will need to use it.

I guess you have to look at the total cost of expenses: taxes + health insurance + social security costs. It's still not too bad of a deal :)

The tax differences between cantons are crazy though (Tagesanzeiger did a good analysis a while ago: https://blog.tagesanzeiger.ch/datenblog/index.php/12008/hier-liegt-ihr-steuerparadies). Especially as a nomad, you wonder why you would pay 3 times as much in Jura compared to Schwyz or Zug

maybe we should gather ~100 Swiss nomads and start a 1 room WG in Zugโ€ฆ
