Other places like Ubud, Chiang Mai, Vienna, Prague...?

in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @rich |  | 10 comments

Hi,
we’re having trouble deciding where to go in the fall (September, October, November) or over the winter for that matter. We loved Chiang Mai, Ubud, Vienna, Prague, Lisbon and we’re looking for a similar place to stay for 1-2 months. We’ll be in Germany and have a car. We wanted to go to Italy, but we’re not getting excited about any place in particular - or we just don’t know where to go. Any ideas?

What do we like? Pleasant weather, open minded people (whose eyes don’t fall out when they see a black girl), healthy food (in restaurants and supermarkets) with vegetarian options, a chill vibe. Nice rentals (we use Airbnb a lot). A nice compromise between nature and not feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Oh, and no bugs or mosquitos please (they love us, but our bodies hate them. We get huge welts that stay for weeks).

Thanks!
Rich & Chinny

Are there any coworking spaces on Thailand's islands? Ideally on Ko Samui or Ko Phangan?

in Ko Samui, Thailand by @rich |  | 9 comments

Hi to all Nomads living on Ko Samui or Ko Phangan!

Are there any good coworking spaces on the islands of Thailand? (I only found one in Ko Lanta, but nothing on the Eastern islands like Ko Samui or Ko Phangan where I would like to stay.)
If not, what are the best internet cafes to work comfortably and quietly?
How fast and how reliable is the internet connection?

Thanks so much!

Can anybody recommend a cheap, good accountant for Hong Kong?

in Hong Kong by @rich | 4yr  | 0 comments

Need a cheap accountant to help with PTR, tax query letter (to justify offshore status), and maybe even shutting down my company there. I’m with startupregistry.hk and tired of the “Oh and then there is also this cost… And this one… And this one…” game. Thank you!

Has anybody with a Hong Kong company been through an Offshore Profits claim?

in Hong Kong by @prof |  | 23 comments

I’ve just hit the 18-month mark of business in Hong Kong ready to submit by first Profit Tax Return. I also have the option of filing an Offshore Profits claim.

The Offshore Profits claim itself seems to be a convoluted, long drawn-out process with significant costs to bare in working with a certified CPA to answer Inland Revenue Department questioning.

I’d love it if somebody who has been through this already were able to answer the following questions:

  • How long did it take for the claim to be accepted or denied?
  • What was the end result?
  • How much did the IRD dig into each transaction?
  • How much did you pay your agent to deal with the offshore claim?

Any insights are much appreciated! :slightly_smiling:

What do you think I should do with Nomad List?

by @levelsio |  | 57 comments

Nomad List has passed 200,000 monthly users this month, after being launched just a few months ago.

Since the launch I’ve worked hard to make the site better. But apart from improving the list itself, I’ve expanded by organizing meetups for nomads everywhere, launching a chat group, a forum w/ AMA with remote startups, a job board with remote jobs , and a blog with interviews with famous nomads.

I have a few more plans written down, but I’m mostly interested in your ideas where I should steer this ship, and also any feedback on what I’ve been doing right, and more interestingly: wrong.

What advantages do backpacks have over more traditional trolly bags?

by @danielgenser |  | 12 comments

I’m starting to think about luggage choices for our adventure. We’re personally not planning on a lot of rugged trekking, which made me wonder about the preference for backpacks that digital nomads tend to have. Do nomads tend to prefer backpacks due to trekking? What advantages to backpacks have over more traditional rolly bags?
