Ah okay, I have seen quite a lot of tourists around, lots of people from other Asian countries visiting and also lots of Australians.
Ahh sounds about right then. I guess everyone who needed to visit Singapore but couldn't is coming now, and everyone in Singapore who's been stuck there during lockdown is leaving
Yeah, it's been packed for the past couple of months. Serviced apartments and hotel rates have gone through the roof. My old serviced apartment in Bencoolen is now double what I was paying for it last year.
Guess tourism has rebounded hard. Need to find a new flat as well but seems everything has gone up around 20%
Oh well. At least no more quarantine or 7 days of PCRtests and everything back to normal!
ryan2mo
Yes, the price has increased by 30% on some places. This is due to Hong Kong residents relocating to Singapore due to the political situation there.

If anyone is flying to singapore from europe, whatever you do, don't fly direct
got my ticket as London > Munich > Singapore for about ยฃ350 on the outbound leg, was 2k to go Munich > Singapore. And Munch > London > Singapore is almost half the price as London > Singapore. Heard about stuff like this before, but have never seen the price difference be this large until now

Welcome back! Letโ€™s catch up
I can't figure out how to apply for a tourist visa to Singapore. Do they have official online form or I should go to places with papers?
ryan2mo
Depends where you are from. They have the 30 days tourist visa on arrival available for a lot of countries.
from Russia :face_vomiting:, where can i find info about on arrival?

Does anyone now how strict the Airport Sec is during the screening process leaving Sin boarding the plane with baby formula both liquid and powder and extra water to mix. This will be our first time departing SIN and we have a 7month old.
๐Ÿ›ฌ cfprkkpiydyfergmw just arrived in ๐Ÿฆ Singapore, #singapore
I was asked to empty my bottle of water when going through security, but there was a water fountain in the waiting area after security checks so I was able to fill it up again, also I'm sure the air crew will be happy to provide you with water onboard if you need some for the baby formula.

I don't think you will have a problem with baby formula if it's in original packaging, also I found the security staff to be considerate.
Thank you Sir.

Any recommendations for sim/eSim? Only need data for two weeks. Will go to Penang for 3 days, so bonus points if it also works for Malaysia.
yeri1mo
walk into a 7/11 and buy any from m1, starhub or singtel. They randomly have promos and have tourist sims and/or data only plans including some (limited) roaming options
yeri1mo
they'll need to scan your passport by law
yeri1mo
there's myrepublic or circles.life|circles.life with esim options, but not sure if those work for foreigners

Does anyone have experience using the Wise debit card in Singapore and Penang? Are they widely accepted? Are places like hawker centres cash-only?
Most Hawker centres accept some form of QR code payment. Though there're so many that it can become confusing
So many types of QR
Yes, Wise card can be used wherever card payments are accepted, I have had no problems. Some stalls in the Hawker centers also accept card payments... They did at the Maxwell food court.
For Malaysia / Penang - You can plug in your Wise card to Grab app. You will likely want to download it anyway. Then you can scan the QR code at coffee shops / hawker stalls.
Penang local hawkers are mostly cash-based though.
Hey all. Any good website/social media to hunt for a serviced apartment for a month that are more commonly used for SG? I don't see that many options on Booking, Agoda & bnb
yeri1mo
Singapore doesnโ€™t mess around with visas. Depending on nationality you can stay more than 30 days though.
yeri1mo
The only option is EntrePass if you run your own company or getting an EP (employment pass) or SPass as employee
yeri1mo
first option needs an account to file all the required documents and proof of income etc. Can take a few weeks. The 2nd option requires the company you work for to submit all documents. SPass will require a health check (think EP is exempt, but EPs are generally hard to get lately compared to SPasses)
Hey U03M97BPTJT! Looks like www.airalo.com/asia-esim|Airalo offers an unlimited data-only plan for 12 days in Asia for US$18.
Has anyone ordered the 28 day $15 hi! tourist SIM card (not the 2-in-1) from Singtel recently? The website says you can pickup at Changi Airport, but it also says that particular card isn't available at Changi. (Bot won't let me link).
That's great! zvryyfsjnwk
Just need another 3 daysโ€ฆ
Yeah I did it via an EP from my own company. Wasn't too difficult but high salary requirement and they make sure you actually are sending yourself the salary each month
yeri1mo
Yes it needs to be a local company, and getting the minimum won't get you an EP
yeri1mo
I know people easily earning double that are getting rejected for an EP
yeri1mo
visa grants are anywhere between 1 and 3 years, first time it's usually 1 year
yeri1mo
visas in singapore are very much a black box and depends on the officer that's processing it, your qualifications, the job you'll be doing, etc
yeri1mo
A lot is based on quotas as well (per nationality and per company). At the end no one really knows. I've had an EP before where my colleague (working at Google) had only an SPass approved. Roughly similar salary

Hey all, anyone knows where I can find a nexstand K2-Laptop stand or sth similar with height-adjustable features in Singapore? No luck scanning shops so far
Buying online would be your best option. Lazada or similar

Can we leave SG and go to say Malaysia then come back to SG again? Or thereโ€™s a hard limit to how long u can stay in SG within 1 year
yeri23d
You can do visa runs, but only so many times before theyโ€™ll start raising eyebrows
yeri23d
Thereโ€™s definitely a limit on how long one can stay in Singapore per year and depends on your nationality
I see lol, good to know, thanks!

Hey, me and my girlfriend are traveling to Singapore on Friday. Since the prices for accomodations are above 80โ‚ฌ/night in Singapore we thought of staying the week in Malaysia for 20โ‚ฌ/night and traveling everyday to Singapore city. Do you know if that is even possible and also manageable by taxi/public transportation or so?
It is definitely possible, but i wouldnโ€™t recommend doing it.
Going in and out of Singapore by taxi is going to be prohibitively expensive and not worth saving the 60โ‚ฌ a day.
Thereโ€™s public transport readily available and affordable, but the time taken might not be worth it especially if youโ€™re crossing the border during peak timings which can take > 1 hour. From Woodlands (the Singapore border neighbourhood), it takes another 1 hour by train to downtown Singapore. To and fro you can be looking at spending 3-4 hours just in transit everyday.
yeri17d
it's not that bad anymore but... mothership.sg/2022/04/long-weekend-jb-to-singapore/ ๐Ÿ˜›
yeri17d
you can definitely be stuck several hours
You can for sure get cheaper than that in Singapore. There's places for half that which aren't hostels, and hostels can get down to quarter that price.
I once stayed in one of those capsule hostels and it was better than expected.
Public transport is cheap but not worth the trouble. There have been taxi fare hikes too, you wouldn't save much. It's a long commute, maybe try couchsurfing? Not sure if that's still a thing.
๐Ÿ›ฌ oxrtxzimstuti just arrived in ๐Ÿฆ Singapore, #singapore
From Johor baru still have to go through this right?
Perhaps try some of those capsule hotels. If you stick to foodcourts and public transport you can see a lot for pretty cheapo. 7/11 Is your friend too. Basically similar to the Tokyo cheapo strategies.

SG isnt big. So you can consider just staying a weekend every now and then on layovers and such.

Hello, does anyone know any reasonable coliving spaces or accommodation for a 2 week stay, mid-end september? ๐Ÿ™
Think you need min 3 months to gets good deals on co-livings in Singapore โ€” or at least a month for a pricing that makes sense
Shorter than that, hotels are better โ€” some capsule hotels are really nice for pocket-friendly options
ok thanks!
